Carpenter's Shelter Benefit at the Birchmere
TheMatt replied to Kibbee Nayee's topic in Events and Gatherings
Ooh. I'd been looking for something to do on Sunday...indoors especially. This just might fit the bill! -
I think what they actually do is rather than frost the top of the cake, they actually inject the filling into the cupcake and it's baked around that. So the cupcake looks like it's unfrosted, but the frosting/filling is inside. (See the picture of the Topless Chai cupcake.)

2010 dr.com Spring Picnic -- Fifth Anniversary!
TheMatt replied to DameEdna's topic in Events and Gatherings
Thinking of picnics, part of me is thinking of bring the ol' picnic staple of my past: ham balls. My grandma made some yummy ham balls (bright red sweet'n'soury sauce and all)...I wonder if my mom still has the recipe. -

As far as my schedule says, I'm in. Not sure what I'll bring yet, but I'm in. -
Jang Won Ban Jeom, John Marr Drive in Annandale

If I remember my Korean 14th-of-the-month holidays correctly, tomorrow is Black Day, the day single men eat jjajang myeon commiserating that they are alone. As I am single, part of me wants to go here tomorrow to partake in this day, though, in truth, I'm just hungry for jjajang myeon. I wonder, though, will the restaurant be busy? -
I was able to get to Hollywood East this morning and my appetite was satiated. Especially because of: Woohoo!

Hmm. I'm probably not going to be able to make the Sunday outing (still up in the air, but unlikely, sadly). I wonder how sad/odd/weird I'd look if I went tomorrow morning for some dim sum...alone? Do they even allow solo dim sum on the weekend?

Stuffed bacon/bacon puppets actually show up on Etsy pretty often. None like My First Bacon at the moment, but there is a Zombie Pig with Bacon.

Another Doí±a Azucena location has opened in (ex-?)Hechinger Plaza next to Gamasot. I'll probably try it out this weekend, but just from the amount of people inside the last time I was Gamasot, it's popular.

Yeah, looks like this Dim Sunday's prospects are dim now. Perhaps an upcoming Sunday (or Saturday for deangold and DanielK?) work.

As I posted on the Hollywood East thread, according to @HWoodEastCafe: I see a Dim Sunday in my future...
-
I thought the rule was whoever brought it up was pinged by DanielK to run it.

Ooh, near the Red Cross place I donate my blood at! I wonder if we lonely, single folk can do the hot pot or whether it's an "X people minimum"? Either way, wanna go!

Sad to say I am out. Wish I could go as I've never been to Silver Fountain and have heard good things. If possible, take pics or notes or the like so I might live vicariously through you.

At the moment, I might be in, but friends are rumbling with plans. Gotta say, though, dim sum sounds yummy...

I usually just release the pressure with the valve on top (after turning off the flame). Seems to be just as fast as the cold water technique for me, especially when you take into account the "drag full PC over to sink" time.

I know it's cliche, but I'm thinking of doing some corned beef in my PC this weekend. It's nice to have it done in an hour or less rather than the 3-4 hours it can take conventionally. I've done it before, but I've always done the veggies separate. This time I think I'll open the pressure cooker about 5 minutes early, add the veggies, and cook the last 5 all together. I think 5 minutes would be long enough... (And, yeah, the veggies would be softer this way, but, well, I like veggies like that. That's why I love stew as well. Mmm...)

I'll be following along. If you have a chance, post some no/low-iodine recipes that you make. I know I've seen RAI recipes before (friends with thyroid issues), but I'd love to see what a foodie might come up with. And I'm surprised most multivitamins add iodine. I guess I figured that'd be overkill due to iodized salt and cow's milk. I suppose this also means you'll get to carry around a doctor's note for a while as well. Airports, DoD facilities...all must be fun with radioactive sweat.

Really? I always heard it meant something like "oddly shaped dumpling".

In my area of Alexandria (Fairfax County Alexandria), for sushi, I've liked Yamazato and Hana Tokyo. I tend to enjoy the fancy, weird, odd rolls at Yamazato more, while I prefer the straight-up sushi/sashimi at Hana Tokyo. Are they the greatest ever? No, probably not, but I like 'em. Both friendly places and near me. That said, I'm interested to hear others' suggestions.

Cheesy. Really cheesy.

The ventilation is enough for building code, not for dress code. You will leave (or, by now, will have left) smelling of either yum or not-yum depending on the nose.

So, how about a DR dinner at Layalina...?

Y ETA: Wait. Just realized this was for new members only and is quite old. So why did it show up as a new topic in my email?
