  1. Let me add my thanks to DanielK and deangold for their work in organizing and setting up this feast. Amazing that the whole thing was set up and put together in under a week...and 25 or so people showed up and ate like kings. I've tried to list all the dishes in a post on my blog, though it's entirely possible I've forgotten something. If I have, or if I've misnamed/misidentified a dish, let me know and I'll add that dish.
  2. Well, the mainly fish-and-veggie man that I am is already thinking of dishes to request. (imagine drooling smiley here)
  3. Is the menu uploaded in the New Kam Fong thread still roughly the same? If so, I'm getting hungry thinking about some of those dishes...
  4. Driving might be, but parking in Wheaton sure isn't! It's looking like I might be in for anything as well.
  5. I suppose Honey Pig would be okay for kids as long as they understand not to touch the blazing hot piece of metal in the middle. Then again, I sometimes forget there is a blazing hot piece of metal in front of me, so may not be age-related...
  6. I do love this place for many of the reason stated here. I love trying the various oils, and I am a big, big fan of their mujaddara. If you see someone bent over the case searching for the mujaddara with the most onions, that's me! I also highly recommend their cashew baklava which might be my favorite of their many, many types. That said, their prices on oils, groceries, &c. are indeed too high sometimes.
  7. Cabbage leaves? Then again, maybe I say that because I'm the kind of guy that likes to eat the steamed bok choy you see in steamers...
  8. I seem to always be in town but something occurs on that day so I miss the snap announcement!
  9. Ooh, 5th. I might be able to make that. Time for some schedule shiftin'...
  10. December 3 is a Thursday, right? Nuts. Still, I hope you guys have fun!
  11. Nooooooooooo! The one business trip I take this year and it's this weekend! I was so hoping to make all my friends jealous with another Open House picture set on Flickr! Ah well. Have some chocolate for me, friends.
  12. I've always been interested in the myth of Peter Chang. I might either join a road trip or take one some Saturday afternoon...
  13. It looks like I won't be doing the cheesecakes. An examination of the gasket to my pressure cooker has made me shelve it until a replacement arrives in who knows how many days. Nertz. I'm still thinking about what I might bring. Probably still a dessert of some kind. Maybe some peanut butter cookies my Grandma used to make. Still, sorry it's not cheesecake.
  14. I find it interesting, and quite telling of the circles I run in that the most commented issue with the redesign among my friends was the removal of "Cul de Sac". Yeah, yeah, it's in some section, but it's in black & white rather than color like it was in the Magazine.
  15. What kind of food do you like? (Your birthday, your pick!)
  16. I think I might be able to make it as well. All by my lonesome, but one more.
  17. Ouch. It better include a coin press or something for that price.
  18. I will say this for Kenwood, they make pretty stand mixers, coffee makers, etc. I still haven't found a price for the Cooking Chef...
  19. Just saw a blog post about the Kenwood Cooking Chef, a stand mixer that has a built-in induction cooker. In truth, I can't see any reason why I *need* this, but I am a man, so I *WANT* one. Why? Well, it's a stand mixer with a freakin' induction cooker in it!
  20. Hmm. Unhealthy, eh? Well, since you'll be downtown, my first thought was Domo. This is Gaku Homma's aikido dojo that also happens to serve Japanese country foods. Of all the places in Denver to eat, Domo is always my first choice. But, it's not very unhealthy. If you have access to a car, take a straight shot down Santa Fe to El Taco de Mexico. It helps to speak Spanish there, but "tacos de lengua", "al carbon", "sesos"...you'll work it out.
  21. Indeed, this is the one item I *ALWAYS* get if I'm at A&J during the Breakfast hours. When I order something at a restaurant with scallions, I want scallions, and this one...mmm...My standbys are the Cucumber Salad in Hot Garlic Sauce, which I always get, any meal. Also, the Shredded Bean Curd Skin with Carrot and Celery(?) salad that I like as a mild counter point to any heat in the meal. I often get the Smoked Chicken (moist, smoky goodness) or the Braised Pork on Rice (yum). Dang it. Now I need to go to A&J...
  22. So far it looks like I can come. Not sure what to bring though. Maybe some pressure cooker cheesecakes?
  23. The Annandale A&J has been the only one blessed by my patronage? Actually, I've wondered this myself. Are there "specialties" at one compared to the other?
  24. It's been a while, but I try to keep up with Boulder as I did live there for many a year. Once place I've heard good things about is SALT Bistro which just opened in the old Tom's Tavern spot (website mainly a stub right now). I don't think it's a fancy place, but Bradford Heap did a good job with Colterra, so I give him some leash (friends that went to Colterra raved, so if you have a car, might be worth a trip to Niwot).Beyond that, hmm, Radda Trattoria has gotten some praise from friends.
