  1. Ooooh. My sister just this morning told me about the massive lines outside the Polish butchers in her neighborhood (Greenpoint aka NYC's Little Poland). Now I'm thinking I might have to withdraw some money at the bank...
  2. They must have finally driven that bank next to them to the brink. On Sundays, I'm sure the bank doesn't mind too much if their parking lot is used by the HEOTB customers. On the other days, though...
  3. Looking at those pictures...hmm...might need to visit this place this weekend. That banchan spread alone is making my mouth water.
  4. Also, for those of us that are in singledom, that sometimes these coupons require couples at least, i.e., two entrees, etc. It's not on all of them, but some.
  5. Alright, alright, I'm in. No one better spoil "Lost" for me!
  6. I've tried other SLTs and I like Gamasot's better. I suppose it's the chef's style of making the broth. I also agree about the soondae soup. I tried it once and was impressed...if a bit overwhelmed by all the odd pig bits. I also recently got their gop dor bi bim bap. I'm not sure why I got that at a soup place, but I'm glad I did. It was quite good, and man was the stone bowl hot! I still have to get their bo yang tang. I like goat, I like their soups...yet I always seem to forget about it!
  7. Yeah, this place is easy to miss. The best way to get to it is to be going east on Edsall toward Van Dorn so you can turn right. Trying to turn left against Edsall there is a bit...frustrating, let's say.
  8. Too bad @chacha is not our favorite meat vendor. Otherwise, I could have Twitter text me when new meat day occurs! Sadly for me, though, this time I was available later in the day, but not at noon. Nuts!
  9. I'll double up. I've added a brief recollection of the meal with pictures on my blog: Farm Table at Evening Star Cafe. If anyone wants to add descriptions of the wines served, let me know, and I'll add those as well. I...can't really comment.
  10. The mackerel dish they have on their menu has always called out to me. I might have to go and try it soon...
  11. Aaaagh! I hope there is still room for me. Apparently I am no longer getting email alerts when new posts are made here! If not, oh well! Have a great time, my friends!
  12. I'm a definite "in" at the moment. I assume it would be at a normal time and not a DeanGold/vampire sort of time?
  13. For Google Maps, at least, it looks like another good address for Hong Kong Palace is: 6387 Seven Corners Center, Falls Church, VA In fact, if you go to Street View, and spin around, I think it's right next to "Cleaners". ETA: This address also resolves on iPhones correctly. Just tested it. Not sure about GPS units, though...
  14. Ooh. Another Evening Star Dinner? Well then...I'm quite interested!
  15. Indeed, it was a very good meal. All the dishes superb, and the price was amazingly reasonable! Longer descriptions/reviews to come (from me or someone), but here is the list of dishes we had--in pseudo-correct order--for reference: Wontons in a spicy peanut sauce Eight treasures duck Seaweed infused fish Salty egg shrimp Golden Bird Lemongrass chicken Spinach with fried bean curd Giant hot pot NB to those who took home takeout menus: A couple of these (lemongrass chicken and golden bird) are newer dishes than the takeout menu. They were on the real menu at the end of the "Traditional Chinese Dish" section. (i.e., our lemongrass chicken is not the American-Chinese Lemongrass Chicken on the menu)
  16. I celebrated Gregorian Solar New Year at Gamasot (with, serendipitously, Escoffier and grover) with a big bowl of free duk gook. Perhaps I'll celebrate Asian Lunisolar New Year there with a paid bowl of duk mandu gook. Sadly, I missed celebrating Islamic Lunar New Year (the only true lunar calendar in wide use) on 29 December (aka 1 Muharram).
  17. Uh, I'm a +1! (I count as two.)
  18. Football over food? DonRocks, please mete out appropriate punishment.NB: Now, if it were the Broncos...
  19. Gotta say, beyond 8 treasure duck, "one fish, three styles" sounds amazing. Third place would probably be "fried and braised ham hocks". Mmmm...Wish they had the prices for those in advance dishes.
  20. Ohh...don't be angry. Think of the poor crustaceans!
