  1. Yes, @DonRocks, low sugar, biodynamic wine!! What producers do you recommend?
  2. On a rare occasion I had dinner at home last night. I pan roasted brussel sprouts in a healthy amount of olive oil, sprinkled in ground mustard, a couple pinches of cayenne and finished off with salt & pepper. The crispy edges and the slight heat from the cayenne made the sprouts absolutely delicious.
  3. Looking for rec’s for good wines to imbibe that are paleo. Thank you in advance!

  6. I am on a mission to expand our content for the Philadelphia forum, and I stumble upon this gem. It was last updated in 2016, but this gives me a good starting point. I will try to make more trips to Philly and report back on my findings. Although Chowhound has an active forum about Philly, I find it to be clunky and inundated with ads. So therefore, I think I need to venture out and do the research myself.
  7. Letter of Recommendation: Bialys NYT Magazine, Jason Diamond 10/30/18
  8. This is a well written piece by the way. I can't seem to get on board with R. House, but I do enjoy the lay out at Belvedere Square, mainly cause I am obsessed with Jinji Chocolates as well as Greg's Bagels. It''s certainly a stretch from food courts in my teens, but that is a good thing.
  9. I'll add this to my library queue. AT this point, I think it might be safer to go back to reading cookbooks and watching my waistline exponentially increase to where spandex is my only option.
  10. Thank you. This is what I am gathering so far... Is the only way to escape is to bury myself in complete fiction so prosperous that the subject matter be far from the peril that is currently happening?
  11. On November 15th, the grand opening of the Bourse will be happening. I'm not sure how I feel about food halls yet. My experience so far has been 50/50. I have been to the Block VA, and was not impressed one bit. I frequently head to Belvedere Square in Bmore, and love it there. If I were to give a crude description to food halls, I would describe them as souped up food courts. Am I wrong? A great write up about the opening of the Bourse, The Bourse Marketplace grand opening set for November, wriiten by Kenneth Hilario 9-13-18 Phiiadelphia Business Journal It may be worth mentioning that a couple of the vendors at the Bourse are District imports, Takorean, as well as Mi and Yu Noodle Bar, a DC based chain. Actually I think the developers are from DC as well, now that I think about it. I did a bit of research and learned that bit. I can't seem to locate the article.
  12. Im halfway through the book. I would be interested in someone's take on the book. And yes, good point, all of these threads are "virtual" discussions. I just need to occupy my thoughts with anything other than what madness is currently going on. Also interested in what suggestions you/ and or the forum have for reading ?
  13. adding Convivial to the list! They have a 3 course tasting menu @ $58, and if you want to take it to go an option of "Thanksgiving to Go" for $35/per person, is available as well.
  14. As a child of the 80's, my fondness for cartoons and all things animation lead to squeal when I learned of THIS!!!!
  15. 4th Annual Smithsonian Food History Weekend: Regions Reimagined is being held this weekend. Nearly all of the events are free of charge with the exception of the Gala, and the Last Call event.
  16. Being that this event is being held on a weeknight, I will not be able to make it, but am interested in having a chat. As I mentioned in another thread it has been sometime since I have enjoyed a noteworthy wine. So I would be interested in learning where do I start picking up savvy wine knowledge? What vintages are noteworthy? Which producers should I be following? So yes, I am interested in a chat.
  17. It's also listed on Craig LaBan's Classics section of his Ultimate Dining Guide of 2018. It is round the corner from Vernick. I will add this spot on my next visit to Philly. Will report back.
  18. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I was pleased, but not blown away by my meal at Vernick. In your opinion, @guanabana where would you recommend is the best in the city? A meal that is distinctly Philadelphia, or is under the radar that is superb. I suppose all of the raves of Vernick lead me to have high expectations, but I was left a little flat. The dish I was looking forward to the most was the uni & scrambled eggs and in my opinion it was just meh, nothing extraordinary. The salinity and unctuous that I find most appealing about UNI was lost in the yogurt foam. The flavor of the eggs seems flat too. I dare say it was rather bland. It has been sometime since I have enjoyed a meal with wine pairings so I thought perhaps my palate was out of tune. I I found what the bartender recommended to be entirely too dry to my liking. It was a less than stellar wine match for sure, in my opinion. Perhaps I chose dishes that didn't really capture the magic of Vernick. I am not sure. I want to spend more time dining in Philly, but navigating the city can be a bit overwhelming not being familiar with the landscape. A funny thing I learned though while striking up a conversation at dinner. I sat next to a couple that used to reside in the District. They fondly remember the bounty of choices that the District offered. I proceeded to ask where the good pizza was served in their city of brotherly love. They went on to say, "This is not a pizza city," and recalled how much they miss 2 Amy's. This surprised me considering Andrew Knowlton of Bon Appetite crowned Pizza Beddia the best in America. I guess everyone's opinion varies, but this reminds me that I need to make visit to 2 Amy's on my next visit to DC. Any suggestion on where to visit next is greatly appreciated! Lost in Philly, kat
  19. Happy to help! Ill be sure to post more often about places to visit in Harrisburg and the surrounding counties. There are some gems in that region.
