bookluvingbabe
Looking for a quiet (ish) spot to have lunch with an old friend in the Penn Quarter/Judiciary Square/Chinatown area. I don't want to break the bank. The only absolute no is Indian food and I'd like to try something new to me. So Proof and Fiola are out on both a checkbook basis and that I've been. Suggestions? Thanks!
ktmoomau
Some things are more expensive than others, but what about China Chilcano, have you been there? I really like it and it is a big space, so likely can find somewhere quiet in there, I have never thought it was loud. They at least in the past had a veggie noodle dish that was amazing.
eatruneat
Any of the Jose Andres places might work. For something quieter, how about 701?
Bart
Maybe the upstairs part of Daikaya? I've eaten there a whopping two times (both for lunch during the week) and it has been very quiet. One time a couple people looked like they were having a business meeting.
Tweaked
I'll throw out a curve ball: Get take out and then have lunch in the Kogod Courtyard at the Portrait Gallery/American Art.

Or the National Building Museum. Shouk is a good get.

I haven't been in a while, but I'd second 701. (I also recall Tom recommending it to someone recently who wanted something quiet.)
Tujague
Nopa (at the Spy Museum) is another good choice, at least based on my meal there a few months ago.
Genevieve
Yes to Daikaya and 701. Rasika maybe - can't remember noise level. Graffiato had reasonable noise level when I had lunch there with a friend a couple months ago.

I'd had a couple really dreadful meals at the Bethesda Jaleo and had reached the belief that I like the idea of Jose Andres more than I like actual Jose Andres restaurants. But this looked interesting and it met all the specs. I liked it enough that I would go back.
