  1. Home from work early today, but still late for lunch, I got off the metro wondering what I should eat that would make me happy and take away the chill. Almost headed for pho when I remembered this place was open. Gumbo seemed just the ticket. It was very good - rich and well seasoned, but not too spicy (I would have preferred a bit more kick). For 4 bucks it more than did the trick and made me look forward to trying more from the menu. I hope they start posting the nightly dinner special online. Spacewise, it is very inviting. I like that it has a blend of tables and a lounging area. For days when I work from home, I can definitely see bringing some reading and enjoying a drink and a treat on the couch. This will also be fantastic pre or post farmers' market.
  2. I've used it when making Dorie Greenspan's Sweet Tart Dough and it came out fabulously. The tart shells are frozen before baking.
  3. Headed over with co-workers for lunch and the place was mobbed. Pretty much all of the main food trucks had lines that would take you at least 45 minutes. Some of the dessert carts had smaller lines. We couldn't afford that much time and left.
  4. Glad to know I'm not suffering alone. I've tried a bunch of suggestions on different tech boards with no luck. I'm now beyond my own limited computer skills and need to ask a savvier friend for help. If I find something that works and I can describe it without butchering it, I will post info.
  5. I can bring my work laptop home tomorrow and test that. I have tested my laptop and on two other networks and it doesn't work -- that is why I suspect it is a setting on my computer. I just don't know what that would be.
  6. It isn't the same problem because I still get that message on my home computer but not on other computers. This is the only page I have tried to access that I can't. I can get other Invision boards.
  7. I need some help resolving an access issue. My home computer cannot connect to DR.com -- I get an error message saying the server may be down. I've tried several different browsers and two different internet connections. Ideas?
  8. Chocolate cherry bread. This is going to make some kickass French toast.
  9. The ones that bug me are when they ask you to purchase food to donate -- at their full retail price. Glad they'll still make their profit off my donation. I have seen similar setups where the store "matches" your donation out of their profit, but they don't say how much that will be.
  10. I really enjoyed my crudo - tomato, mozzarella, basil, arugula, grana, and prosciutto. More prosciutto than I would have expected, ensuring plenty in every bite. Considering they had 50 people in one sitting, the consistency of good char was impressive.
  11. Went for a late lunch yesterday and really enjoyed the margherita. While the middle was a little softer as you would expect, it wasn't anywhere close to soupy. I thought the crust had a nice chew to it but would have preferred the edges a bit thinner. Won't stop me from enjoying many more. A very welcome addition to the area.
  12. I'm relatively new to the world of asparagus having also overcome a childhood aversion to them. Grilled and served with lardons and poached egg was my gateway. I also like them roasted and then tossed with some citrus or added to pasta.
  13. Tip from a friend who heard me rant about these being discontinued -- Reynolds has teamed up with one of the HSN gadget types to sell bags online.
  14. You could buy some bulk steel cut oats at WF if you just want to try out some combos. I pre-make steel cut oatmeal and portion it out for the week. Just add a little more water when I re-heat. I like brown sugar and banana for a bananas foster riff. Maple syrup and sliced almonds is another fav. Peanut butter and bananas or strawberries is also good. Hannah - thanks for the turkey tip. I roasted a turkey breast last night. Much better than the poached soup chicken that went into last weeks lunches even if I did remove the skin.
  15. It is some pretty boring eating and, if my gallstone attack hadn't been so brutal, no doubt I would have fallen off the wagon by now. Nothing like searing pain to keep you on track. Setting the surgery date also helped -- open-ended boring eating was not working for me. The good news is that life will gradually get back to some semblance of normal. Multi-day high fat revelries will be out but that is probably good for multiple reasons. Plus, I'll be back to eating acidic foods in time for tomato season. Are you having to prep separate meals for yourself or has the family jumped on the low-iodine bandwagon?
  16. Sustain it. I'm on a low fat, low acid, bland diet until my gallbladder comes out on the 5th. While my restrictions are completely different than yours, I appreciate the company.
  17. Looking forward to tasting my first full-fat post-gallbladder food at the picnic. That's gotta be worth some pig.
  18. Westmoreland had asparagus galore and a sign that said strawberries in 2 weeks. Let the countdown begin!
