  1. Hard Times' wings are not bad, and I like Urban BBQ's wings too.
  2. Thanks for this tip. My wife is a serious baker and she's noticed that the motor on our KA mixer seems to strain a bit more than it used to. It still gets the job done, well, though. If we do upgrade, it'll be to a pro level one.
  3. Why is this thread title use the non-word 'sammiches'??? The Earl of Sandwich would not approve.
  4. I still say G&M crabcakes are pretty good. Granted it's been over a year since I had one, so maybe some more current research is in order. I had lunch with some coworkers in from out of town (west coast) and they were commenting that the crab cakes here were spectacular. One guy was a former eat coaster and he mentioned how bad many west coast variations of crabcakes were out there -- mostly filler and very little crab whereas the opposite is usually true for our local versions. Interesting I thought.
  5. Is it a big one or a little one (yeah I know how big they are, just trying to figure out which model it is to see if my vehicle is big enough to come get it.
  6. I haven't been there in over a year, but I have always found them to be flavorful and delicious. Will they make me swoon like almost anything I get at Komi or Palena? No. Will they make my tastebuds happy? Sure. The place needs a serious remodeling though.
  7. A 2004 Rivers Marie Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Not bad.
  8. I remember the ONE TIME, once in my life that it was me that arrived at a house with a bowl of candy outside and a sign that said 'Please take one!'. And for once, I did what every other kid has done when they were lucky enough to be the first kid there -- I took it all! URP.
  9. Langhe (sometimes spelled Lange) are what you want to try. There are some good ones and bad ones. Find a local store who carries some and try a few.
  10. What no Maryland wines?!?! Kidding, you have my blessing to not carry Maryland wines. Not that you need it. Yes, where is the place gonna be?
  11. We almost always bake/roast with convection. Sometimes you can even lower the temp setting by up to 25 degrees too.
  12. My wife LOVES Sidecars. I'll have to tell her about this variation.
  13. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. This helps a lot! Keep it coming.
  14. I've eaten here maybe 3-4 times now over the past few months. The ribs are great. The BBQ beans are wonderful (but eating them along with whatever Q you are getting is bordering on overkill). The potato salad is also very good. The pulled pork is good, but I prefer Urban BBQ's. The brisket is excellent though. The BBQ potato wedges are HORRID though. Also, comparing ANBBQ ribs and Corner Stable Ribs is like apples and oranges.
  15. One of the best things about this place is the fact that they serve fries with their ribs. While I do prefer a true smoking/grilling of ribs these days, I find their par-boiling method OK for their sauce and rub used afterwards. Andy Nelson's it ain't, but I like their ribs here for other reasons. And the fries help!
  16. I heard this place changed hands of late. True? Are the crabcakes still as good as ever?
  17. I have some friends coming in to town and spending time in NoVa while here. They want to sample as much of the truly regional foods that the DC-MD-VA area is known for. When they mentioned this, I assumed one thing to try would be various preparations of proper Virgina ham. Where can I steer them? While they'll be primarily in Fredericksburg, they'll spend some time in DC, Springfield and might also go Virginia wine-tasting among other things -- just to give you an idea where they'll be geographically. I believe they will have a car, too. TIA
  18. This is technically true. But if you have a friend in Virginia, you can have your stuff shipped there in some volume....
  19. Depending on the soda answer, I am either the Stuffing or the Cranberry Sauce
