  1. Returned after a few months hiatus and a month in Japan. My daughter's birthday and her first visit. We let chef make suggestions and were happily sated- seared salmon belly, o toro, calamari spaghetti which included particularly unctuous Uni, Japanese snapper, unagi rolls and more. The rice was exceptionally good and chef and his wife are wonderful hosts. Close to home and always delicious.
  2. Yes-- work cut out for me-- working on banquet rooms at hotels where we have reserved room blocks and looking further into LI places.
  3. Thank you for asking for clarification. My daughter's wedding will be "downtown"ish on Monday and out of town guests will likely stay near the Inner Harbor. The ideal venue would be a restaurant that has all the tables and chairs etc and could arrange for us to have a meal for max $30 pp with the option for us to bring wine, beer and/ or alcohol. We have found places for a meal at that price but would need to purchase drinks and that nearly doubles the price. So a BYO restaurant that seats 60 would be great.- if one exists. Food need not be anything too special, obviously for the price, but a gathering place. We tried a pizza place but was required to pay more than $1000 for use of space. Space would have to be transport friendly-many will be without cars so uber could be a solution if not too far. - We looked into renting a bus so we could use some of the State or County park pavilions but weather is a potential issue- rather not be in a park in the rain but the bus rental is too expensive. I had not identified "indoor" pavilions with AC. A school gymnasium would be a bit too low key...
  4. Looking for a Sunday night restaurant or space for pre- wedding dinner in July. Not looking to have another wedding but a casual space for folks to eat, drinks some and toast the couple. If we find a space, we can order in our own food.
  5. Dinner last night - called for rez for 7 for two but was asked to arrive at 7:30. All tables and bar were full. We had a great meal- over- ordering to sample lots of things- highlights were the calamari pasta( nest), the agedashi, oh toro, salmon with mango purée and hamachi with uni. By 8:30 the place was nearly empty- no second round seating. The chef asked how we heard- DR- He said, ah Don! Second patrons today.. I hope the word will spread- I hate to see an empty place of this caliber- FYI-still no liquor llicense. We will be back with friends.
  6. Thank you for all your replies and for the posted image. Still no word from the company and no packages found in any of the "sister" stores. I do wonder what the source is for Amazon... The price is waay out of line.
  7. Found a single package at Marshall's and am looking for more.Great dried pasta shape for soaking up sauce. You need to cook the pasta about 5 minutes longer than directions instruct. I sent an email to Bella Italia and am waiting for a reply.
  8. Just finished a delicious lunch! The kale, mushroom and squash tacos were so flavorful and FILLING. Excited to share with vegetarian friends. I need to return on a weekend to add the egg to my kale. All seats were full at 1:15 but by 1:45 the rush had subsided.
  9. Nutmeg, Rosemary, thyme and sage... And oaky white wine. Not sure if the herbs and spice are related but it often results in my skipping lamb dishes , which I love, when dining out.
  10. We have a reservation for 8 after Thanksgiving under the new reservation system. Wondering if anyone has experience with the new prix fixe system and how menu items are chosen and whether or not plates are served family style or individually plated. Still waiting for a reply from my email inquiry from the manager.
  11. So glad to read your report! Full Key is a neighborhood place for us. We had stopped going regularly for no particular reason and recently started going again. We always enjoyed the soy chicken but have never tried the duck. Their greens and clams in black bean sauce were regular dishes for us. A change I noted last Sunday were the shrimp dumplings in the Hong Kong noodle soup- they used to be mostly shrimp and now taste mainly of garlic( not usually a problem but I was expecting the dumplings we had enjoyed for years)Maybe an aberration that night, but I will give it another try.
  12. Ate at Los Agaves in Santa Barbara twice last week! We used to go to Superica but the sauces and dishes here really shine!
  13. Had dinner at Fishing with Dynamite Last night. The chowder was delicious, we had some Blue Points and Duxburys to start - briny and sweet, followed by a fabulous hamachi dish with avocado and some mystery sauce - so good that the waiter said many folks cancel other dishes and order a second round of hamachi. We also ordered a grilled squid dish served over eggplant purée with fried chickpeas - for me the dish did not work - the squid was overpowered by the other ingredients-then dessert pretzel bread chocolate bread pudding served with house made marscapone ice cream and salted caramel sauce...overindulgent and really tasty. Will return - plus a promenade along the MB shore is far better than LAX
  14. Oops! I do not want to repeat - live near Baileys Xroads.
  15. I know this is not cooking- related but seeking a dry cleaner who will press tablecloths for our large Thanksgiving dinner- Last year I spent hours with a can of Niagra starch( first ever purchase ) - an activity I do n
  16. Well.. I bought a $35 bone in turkey breast from WF and followed the online directions and it was a disaster- the internal temp never rose above 145 after 3 1/2 hours- I guess the temp indicator isn't accurately measuring or the air wasn't circulating, but it should have cooked easily in that time- finished it off in the oven but it was dry. Glad I did a dry run- will borrow a neighbor's oven for turkey day!
  17. I'll do a test this weekend- I have a small weber gas grill with 2 burner options- front and/or back- So indirect heat is out- I found an online recipe - might have been on Weber site- that suggests turning both burners to med/ low and check to maintain about 300 degrees- a bit concerned about constant heat.
  18. Hosting 25 for T giving - I have one regular size oven- trying to decide between one 25lb turkey or 2 birds and try to cook one on my weber gas grill. Any suggestions ?
  19. Thank you,Pat. I am looking for wild, not farm raised, and whole.
  20. Having a crowd for Thanksgiving and thinking about poaching a salmon in addition to the turkey. I am looking for a good recipe ( I have a fish poacher) but have an electric stove and am looking for a not terribly expensive place to buy the fish.
  21. Enjoy your cruise! We sailed Independence Of the Seas with our grown kids - 4 cabins last January for 9 days-we set our food expectations low- and there were some surprises-- escargot was yummy- one night I asked for it to be put over pasta:). The ship was beautiful. We had a disappointing experience at Chops- definitely not steak house quality . But a tip you might not have considered - we had main dining room waiters from South Asia and we had a standing dinner reservation for 7:30 for out table of 7- one day I asked if we could order "crew food"- I had heard that the cruise line has chefs for the crew from many regions . The night we asked, we were brought Goan chicken dish- excellent! The next night, although we didn't ask, we were served a South Indian feast! What a treat-!!
