  1. Boynton-McKay has a pretty elaborate website, so it appears to be open and thriving. I will check out both of your recs.
  2. Thanks for the recs. Any ideas for Belfast and Castine?
  3. My father was a restauranteur (what a quaint term) many years ago in New Jersey (1951-1962), and he was fanatical about sourcing and quality. He worked seven days a week and around midnight twice a week he would drive to the produce market in Newark--20 miles away-- to buy the best ingredients. I sense that you are comparably committed.
  4. Francine Bistro in Camden looks promising, but a guide to the mid-coast would be great. I would hate to just rely on Fodor's. Thanks.
  5. Thanks very much. We will be a bit north of the southern coast. Basically, Brunswick to Castine but staying in Camden.
  6. We will be spending the first two weeks of July in Camden, ME and venturing up and down mid-coast Maine. Any recommendations? Thanks
  7. Thanks, Dave. Mea Culpa. Will make brunch reservations and try some of your new dishes. Have you thought about surrounding your mushroom burger with less sweet pillows?
  8. We had brunch here in October. I loved the mushroom burger but was puzzled that it was between a really sweet croissant. I just looked at the current brunch menu, and very litlle has changed,. Perhaps it is time to trot out a new menu. Dave?
  9. Sarasota; Siesta Key Just returned from a week in beautiful Sarasota! Bijou Cafe and Michael's on East are still the best restaurants in town. We were very disappointed with Mattison on 41 and Mattison Grill. Libby's in Southside was overpriced and underwhelming. This restaurant is in the old Fred's venue. Hillview Grill and Morton's Gourmet Market for lunch were great. We also had a tasty lunch at Tommy Bahama at St. Armand Circle. Any recommendations for seafood lovers?
  10. Perhaps the Cereal Bowl could relocate to RFK in order to host the CEREAL BOWL every December. Fans could eat cereal while watching the game, and the winners' trophy would be a huge ________!
  11. We grilled in aluminum foil packets rockfish, shallots, carrots, and red peppers. Virtually no fat, wonderful flavors and textures, and very easy to make.
  12. Thanks very much. That is very helpful.
  13. I very much like her minestrone with white beans. Unlike Whole Foods and Balducci's these soups are not overly salted. I have not yet tried Soupergirl, but I will. Are her soups available in NOVA?
  14. Katharine Mardirosian in McLean at 100 Bowls of Soup is making wonderful soups with fresh ingredients, no additives, and little salt.. She sells them at My Organic Butcher in McLean and the Reston Farmers Market. She hopes to find other outlet to ply her wares.. Katharine can be reached at mardios@verizon.net. I have no financial interest in her business. Just a happy customer.
  15. Sarasota; Siesta Key We will be in Sarasota and Siesta Key in mid-April. We made reservations ar Michael's on East and Bijou Cafe. Any other suggestions? We like romantic, dimly lit places that feature seafood.
  16. That's a great philosophy. As a geezer and regular patron, I would like to hear some Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Hank Jones, and Miles Davis. But I can appreciate that you are playing to a much younger audience. Thanks for a consistently great dining experience.
  17. We have been shopping at My Organic Butcher for several months. It may seem like an oxymoron inasmuch as we don't eat red meat. But MOB also has very fresh fish--not as wide a vraiety as Black Salt--but very good. We have also enjoyed their crabcakes made with a hint of mustard and virtually no filler. They have recently added a line of locally produced, unadulterated soups. We have tried and enjoyed the butternut squash and mushroom/barley. Their free range chicken is also excellent.
  18. I promise! I will never do it again. I felt guilty thoroughout the meal. I don't think that I have parked illegally since about 1974 when I lived in LA.
  19. Went for brunch today with SO and an old friend from Boston. No valet parking, so we slipped into a ZipCar spot and almost got towed. The food and ambience were exceptional. The granola with vanilla yogurt was nicely presented, because the yogurt was hidden under a complex granola but was a bit sweet. The squash blossom omelette featured nicely balanced flavors of goat cheese and seasonal vegetables. The Florentine (without Hollandaise) was excellent, especially the beautiflly poaced eggs and a yummy jelly. Fennel sausage was great. The English muffin was pleasingly thin and did not overwhelm the dish. Service was attentive, efficient, but not overbearing. Would gladly return for the food but not the parking. They only valet park for dinner.
  20. Their website says that their carryout case is back. Kiwi pies, soups, and entrees. Has anyone tried it?
  21. Yes, it is odd. He said that two of his potential reviews "fell through." And the WaPo says that he is "on assignment." Whatever that means. But so far, at least, he has shown up for his Wednesday chats.
