  1. Hmm.. I would coat sesame oil lightly on the pieces of the brisket and put it on top of sushi marinated rice.
  2. How about Flavor's? Actually A&J's fried chicken is good, too.
  3. Well, I have been Lotte many times before Super H comes up but didn't have chance to eat at Lotte's food court. I used to buy their ready-made soon dooboo or another bahnchans. They were pretty good.
  4. Probably bibim bob (rice mixed with vegetable and chilli sauce) is one of the best leftover Korean food. The major vegetables are three blanched bean sprout, brown ferns, spinach seasoned with sesame oil, salt pepper, garlic. Those are used for annual ancestor's memorial ceremony. After the ceremony they are mixed with rice, marinated beef, Korean chilli paste, sunny side-up egg and more sesame oil.
  5. They have 5 sections: warm food section (clam chowder, mini crab cakes, gnocchi with cream sauce, seafood stuffed tortellini with tomato sauce, sea bass and so on), cold food section (raw oysters, shrimps), pasta section (penne, orzo, linguini), meat section (roast beef, paella), dessert section as Stephen described. Somehow, there was no lobster. I liked all the food I tried. Gnocchi, tortellini, crab cake, shrimp, oyster (very fresh), paella. Also bread pudding and apple crumb pie were awesome.
  6. I used to watch 'Two Fat Ladies' and liked it a lot. Is any DVD available? Barefoot Contessa (Ina Garten), Everyday Italian (Giada di Laurentiis) and Good eats (Alton Brown) are helpful for me. Paula Dean's show is also helpful for me to learn southern cooking.
  7. Maytag Blue cheese is $17.xx at Chessetique and $16.xx at Balducci. I used 20% Balducci discount coupon so it was better deal. However, I am not sure those are exactly the same manufacturer. I am going to take advantage until the coupon expires on Sept 30.
  8. I love dumplings. All kind of dumplings. I usually benchmark Chinese restaurants with dumplings because dumplings integrate all the ingredients and flavors. My nickname was the dumpling killer and my mom used say that 'you should marry a Chinese guy to eat dumplings all the time'. I wish I could but I didn't. Anyway, I know Mandu is a Korean restaurant and Korean dumpling has lighter flavor than porky, gingery Chinese dumpling. Dumpling skin is thinner and more veggies in the stuffing than Chinese one. Since Danny Lee named his restaurant as Mandu I have to use my benchmark skill and hope it doesn't disappoint me.
  9. Oh, man! All the tickets were sold out. More than 1000 tickets! The room was packed. Probably we need bigger room next year. Short speech were done by famous people like Chuck Schumer and Mark Russell. I had wings (spicy and non-spicy), Wardynski Polish Sausage, a beef on weck and some sponge candy. It was the first time for me to taste the original buffalo food and the food was great. The spicy wing was spicier than I expected. I had to mix eating spicy and non-spicy wings because it was so hot. Also the sausage was memorable. I will definately go there next year again and have more sausages. My colleague Tony has a strategy to enjoy food there like this: 1. Go line up early. 2. Bring zip-lock bags to take food home. I will post about Annual Buffalo Nite next year when they start selling tickets. Hope some DR people can join.
  10. Absolutely true 100% real Buffalo wings, a beef on weck, Wardynski Polish Sausage and sponge candy with Chuck Schumer and all Buffalonians at the Senate Building
  11. OK! I am leaving. I am telling you that you miss the great chance. Bye!
  12. SHORT NOTICE! Does anybody want to go to the 28th Annual Buffalo Nite in Washington? It is tonight 6-9 PM at Dirksen Senate building (1st and C st, NW). I have a ticket. The food is authentic pure 100% real Buffalo food. Please PM me or post here. Thanks
  13. Welcome aboard! Try Asian grocers. They carry whole walnuts. Lotte Plaza, 11790 Parklawn Plaza, Rockville, MD 301.881.3355 Grand Mart, 221 Muddy Branch Road, Gaithersburg, MD 301.527.6980
  14. I was told that they don't accept more than 20 people. The manager didn't mention surcharge.Maybe they have another option for holidays... I thought about Rasika, too but I didn't want to use my preference for the company lunch. Also there were some issues I didn't mention on the board.
  15. I am working in the Labor Department and it is located in a quite dead zone (3rd and D st.) for good restaurants. Probably Bistro Bis, Le Paradou, Capital Grille and Charlie Palmer's are the best one near us. My company provides a lunch quarterly basis so my project manager asked me where to go with 30 people. We tried District Chophouse & Brewery but they only accept 20 people for regular table and can provide a private room with surcharge. The second try was Charlie Palmer's but they don't accept more than 20 people either. We have been in the Capital Brewery before so skipped it. The third try was Drinx. They simply accepted us. So there was a lunch today. I had appetizer portion of Jumbo lump crabcake. The taste was saltier than I expected but texture was fine. One of my colleague swallowed 10 oz. burger and he liked it. The vice president of my company liked his chicken and avocado club sandwich. It was pretty successful for a group lunch.
  16. According to my colleague Tony (He is from Buffalo, NY) McFadden’s is the closest. Supposedly the local chapter of Buffalo Bills Backers meet there for their Bills parties.
  17. Without defending Korean restaurateurs, they tend to do business for Korean people only so they hire Korean waiting staff w/wo English speaking skill. This kind of tendency is slowly changing because of growing American customers. Yesterday, the waitress didn't know what to do with the untaken Kimchi tofu soup. It could have been resolved if she could speak English. Anyway, I followed Claudia's wisdom to order another one for Kay and it worked well. The owner didn't charge the additional soup.
  18. I was grown up in Seoul, Korea so fall food reminds me of Harvest Full Moon Festival (Aug 15 in lunar calendar). It is one of the biggest Holiday of the year in Korea, China and Japan. (because we share the lunar calendar) It will be early October this year. We use the harvested friuts/grains for the festival such as rice, chestnut, date, persimon, pear and so on. My mom prepared a table for our ancestors and my dad hosted the ceremony in the morning and we ate. The typical Korean fall food is: Song-Pyun (Little crescent shape rice cake - pine leaf is steamed with the rice dough) Taro root soup Yak-Sik (mixed rice with date and chestnut and steamed with brown sugar, sesame oil and soy sauce)
  19. Oh, you should have joined us last night. We had a $20 Tuesday dinner at Light House Tofu (MD location). However, the lunch counter at Super H has 3 different cusine styles. 1. Korean 2. Chinese 3. Sushi corner (a separate vendor from above) The sushi corner carries spicy jirash sushi. Of course, Korean/Chinese corner also carries some spicy food. They are located on your right hand side when you enter the store. We usually go there around 11:00 AM, eat first and shop. This way, we can avoid the long line in front of the cash registers.
  20. Through confusion about the location (VA? MD?) we made it. I didn't realized Light House Tofu has 2 locations. When I saw Dean's post about the restaurant I thought 'Wow, he made a heck of trip for his lunch.' Anyway, I am glad that everybody enjoyed the food. We spent $18 per person. The food we ordered was : 1. Mushroom tofu soup - Smokey 2. Mixed tofu soup (clam, shrimp, oyster, Beef) - DanielK, Rachel(DK's +1) 3. Seafood tofu soup (clam, shrimp, oyster) - Scott Johnston, Dean, Escoffier 4. Kimchi tofu soup (kimchi, beef) - Synaesthesia 5. Oyster tofu soup - Grover 6. Beef, pork tofu soup - Kay (Dean's +1) We shared : Seafood pancake Nakji noodle (spicy octopus with thick noodles) Jukumi Bokum (stir-fried squid in a spicy sauce)
  21. If you are near Han-Ah-Reum in Merrifield, you are actually not far away from Super H on Lee Hwy(10780 Fairfax Blvd. Fairfax, VA 22030 Tel : 800-427-9870). This Super H is bigger than the one near you and the lunch counter accepts credit cards.
  22. I once made a RVC with this recipe from www.gourmet.com. My southern born husband liked it a lot.
  23. Well, I am not sure if my post will give you an answer you want but try "Annual Buffalo Nite in Washington". My colleague Tony is from Buffalo, NY and always craves for Buffalo food. He found this event 2 years ago. According to him, absolutely TRUE BUFFALO WINGS are served.
  24. For Light House Tofu dinner, people attending are : Escoffier and Grover DanielK Smokey Scott Johnston Cucas87 Catharine Deangold +1 There is room for 9 more. I probably will wait until sunday afternoon and make a reservation since this place is so popular. Actually it is very difficult to get in around busy hour and there are not many parking spaces available for this little restaurant.
