  1. I too need some recs (for next weekend). Allegedly there's a wine bar/restaurant that's pretty good?
  2. Saying "ice water" seems to alleviate the cheap feeling.
  3. Public service announcement I counted, we have four (actually three and a bonus wine) of the Spanish whites Michael Franz mentioned in today's wonderful article, they will be available for HH tomorrow. If anyone is interested. Santiago Ruiz (Rias Baixas) J. Parientes Verdejo Marques de la Villa Malvasia Some Verdejo/Viura blend not listed Not sheepishly - edited because Rocks made me, John W.
  4. We usually will have some of them kicking around for happy hours. Unfortunately, someone called the white flavor already today.
  5. This is more like it... I enjoyed this as much as I enjoy the wines.
  6. Le Prise sans scrupule..... Le Happy Hour Menu Le genièvre et tonique dans le modèle de Jose Andres Vin Blanc - Cava "plat" Vin Rouge - Cabernet Sauvignon, Penedes, "Reserva," 1998 Merci, Mssrs Brown et Wabeck
  7. We pay about $200 for the service, plus around $500 to $600 a month for covers, plus additional for the "covers through the website" fee. The trade off of the expense is the easily maintained database with which to send out news, propaganda and the like.
  8. I rocked 2 from Arrow this Sunday...'02 Jo Pithon Anjou "Les Pepinieres" for $18 or $19 - killer expression of chenin, baked apple, spice, enamel cleansing acidity, and '03 Jose Parientes Varietal Verdejo, super floral, bright fruit, minerality, perfect wine for the heat, like $17 or so. Fresh Fields on 14th and P was selling 1999 Produttori Barbaresco "Moccagatta" for $29.99, so that counts too I guess. Prunes, roses, tar, fennel/licorice, if there's any left when I get back there, there won't be any left.
  9. *Public service announcement* JARAD Slipp (with two A's) is the wonderful host with which you enjoy your red meat/wine with at RTS. Along with Mikey H. and Cap'n Blinky Cup. (not directed at any one in particular, but at least spell a brother's name right).
  10. file under blatant self-promotion This just in; Happy Hour today will consist of the Kir de Luxe (Kir Royale DMB's way) and the Bellini (also done DMB's way). Not only can you have fancy drinks in a place with a tree in the middle of it, you can all get a burn from Derek's damn hotness.
  11. Thrasher did indeed tell me he makes the best mojitos.
  12. My biggest concern with Horton Viognier is vintage..."Current" for them seems to be stuck around '99 or '00, personally not interested in drinking old wet dog for a lot of $$$.
  13. Favorites on ye olde Rose festival List pt. III being Rose of Zweigelt, Tegernseerhof from Austria and a Shiraz/Muscat de Frontagnan blend from Trevor Jones, Australia.
  14. We pour that from time to time. Pretty good juice.
  15. I'm thinking Lugana is going to be comprised of Trebbiano di Soave with the balance made up of Garganega. Regardless, I'd rather be drinking said beverage instead of working today.
  16. I'm getting my ass in gear, end of next week for the rose list I hope. Lots of Provence, and Long Island makes an appearance as well. Now (I mean right now) drinking Ca' del Solo Big House Pink (blend of Carignan, Sangiovese, Charbono, Zin and Barbera). Pretty bloody good, brought in by Country Vintner, I'm guessing $12 retail.
