  1. Last week at Corduroy we came up with a solution to the how do new people find the DR.com'ers at Happy Hours problem. From now on a "regular" will let the host/bar tender/manager know that we are there and they should send anyone who asks for the DonRockwell group our way. That will keep people from having to toast to Don every half hour and allow new people a somewhat discrete way to figure out which group of winos they are looking for. If a Happy Hour occurs at Firefly or Corduroy, where we are well known and usually liked, please do not hesitate to ask for the manager to point you in the right direction. Hopefully this will make it easier for new people to find us. Everyone is always welcome. Please let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions.
  2. I second the Dino recommendation. They will take a reservation for a party that large. You can please just about everyone, from veggies to carnivores with their menu.
  3. Plans are in the works to have a Stinky Cheese tasting just for dr.com'ers. Stay tuned for details. You can read about our first cheese tasting here.
  4. One spot just opened up for tomorrow night. PM me if you would like to join us.
  5. Here is our final list for Wednesday. Tasting starts at 7, spit buckets optional. melgold rabbi1969+3 crescentfresh+1 starfish mdt zoramargolis alan1747 cjsadler olivia+1
  6. I just got off the phone with the restaurant after changing the reservation again. Although the reservation is under my last name, for those of you who don't know it you can say that you are with the Don Rockwell party. They have been warned about you all Crescent, I highly recommend the top hat and cane.
  7. This is my current list. Please let me know if you have to change your reservation or if you have called the restaurant to cancel your spot ASAP!!!!! laniloa hm212 dcfoodie+1 funjohnny +1 mdt jacques crackers walrus+1 crescentfresh+1 jpw+1 jeffalex+1 NCPinDC
  8. New Morning Farm at 36th and Alton is open on Tuesday from 4-8. They will have peaches, probably nectarines, corn, blueberries. There definitely won't be cherries, New Morning's season is over. Wednesday there is a new Fresh Farm market in Foggy Bottom.
  9. I found out today that it is going to be a while before we get to indulge in any ping pong pizza. My source tells me that it's going to be "very low-brow" and that we shouldn't expect to see anything soon. That gives everyone plenty of time to sharpen their paddle skills.
  10. You need to find a new source because I had some amazing ears this weekend. Roasted them up and made a corn and avocado salad with a lime cilantro dressing. I ate it before a big bowl of very garlicky spaghettini with meat sauce.
  11. For those who are wondering, the entire menu, whether you order ala carte or do a tasting menu, plus the wine list, is included in this special offer.
  12. I have one of those and found it completely useless. It tore up the kernels and that was when I could get it to work. I'm going to stick with my knife. When I finally got the kernels off I made a roasted corn and avocado salad with a cilantro lime vinaigrette. That went with a very rare flat iron and garlic fries. (Damn you Bilrus for bringing them into my world ) Dessert was broiled blueberries.
  13. This is the current list for dinner. No word yet on if we will get the private room. laniloa bilrus+1 hm212 dcfoodie+1 funjohnny +1 mdt jacques crackers+1 walrus+1 crescentfresh+1 jpw+1 jeffalex+1
  14. Wednesday the 27th at 7:00pm at Tallulah There are still a few spots open. If you are interested let me know.
  15. Does anyone else shop at New Morning's market at the Sheridan School on Tuesdays and Sundays? Will you send me a PM if you do? I picked up three types of cucumbers: lemon, asian and diva. There are only a few more weeks for berries so I grabbed some blue, red and blacks. At Dupont this morning I found the coolest purple conjoined twin pepper. That's going to be snack for my students on Monday.
  16. Getting back on track....Marty's on 8th has a nice little patio on it's roof. On Friday nights it is a prime spot for tourist watching and imagining how good your aim would be if the Marine's weren't a block away.
  17. For those of you who missed our picnic in May here's what Crescent is talking about:
  18. I agree. They are going to have to work very hard to be worse than Bricks. They had to switch to plastic cups on the roof becuase apparently in the beginning a few cups leapt for freedom and ended up on the street.
  19. I second the La Placitas recommendation. It has been around for years and serves good quality, very affordable food. I'm a big fan of the ceviche and shrimp in butter garlic sauce. Yummmm. Across the street is Banana Cafe. It too has been around a while but not as long as La Placitas. It is Cuban food with your standard American Mexican fair on the menu. The have a great roasted salsa (similar to what you find at Cactus Cantina). I couldn't tell you about how the food is now though.
  20. Ask him tonight in between his small fires
  21. You are a very optimistic person Friday nights tend to be bad because of Shabbat. A couple of warnings about the 6:30 parking on Connecticut. My friend parked right across the street from Dino at 6:25 and had a ticket when she came back to her car that night. Also, the 6:30 spots go very quickly, especially on a Friday. Get there at 6:40 and you may be SOL. Have fun and someone bring a fire extinguisher for Justin
