  1. Hi Keith, Persimmon always has a veg option, though it isn't listed on the menu. Jaleo has plenty of veg choices. Other than that, you're probably looking at italian or thai/vietnamese (Green Papaya would be my rec for the latter).

  3. While not really convenient for you location-wise, for future reference, Brickskeller has a pretty decent veggie burger.

As a vegetarian who loves risotto, here are places I've enjoyed it: Butterfield 9 (and it's organic to boot) Firefly - this one's my favorite, although I believe they've changed chefs/menus since I was there... Cafe Milano (however their current menu doesn't list it, but I bet they would make the asparagus risotto without the meat) - you have to deal with the attitude there and the "scene" though...
  5. Looking for a place for 15 girls to go before an evening at the Improv. Somewhere close by, and relatively casual. Any recommendations? I can't seem to think of anywhere appropriate.
  6. I believe the restaurant officially opens tomorrow (that's what staff said when I was at a grand opening reception for the hotel). The space is beautiful. The hotel also has a tea cellar, for guests that are interested in paying $20 for a cup of tea.

  8. Robert, Thanks for an interesting article. As a vegetarian who loves to eat (I am always confused when people think that just b/c I choose to not eat meat that I do not care about food), I completely echo your sentiment. I am usually not that picky, and I can make a meal out of potatoes and sides at Ruth Chris if that's what my carnivorous husband is in the mood for. As long as the wine is good, and there is SOMETHING I can get full on, I am content. For the record, my favorite high-end dining place is Corduroy. It it is the typical "veggie plate," but there is nothing typical about it. Another good one is Amada Amante in Rockville. My favorite thing is when the meat-eaters see my entree and say that they wish they had ordered what I did. This happens extremely rarely though. Maestro also does a very good job with their veg dishes. Vidalia was the worst veggie plate I've ever experienced. I guess I am just happy this point is being discussed, b/c I want chefs to be aware that there are plenty of vegetarians (I'm not getting into percentages) that want to spend money at their establishments. I am somewhat disappointed (but not surprised) by the majority of comments here though, which is one of the reasons why I haven't been as involved in this group as I would like. I don't always feel entirely welcome.
  9. Ok, my mouth is watering now. I have yet to try Komi, but I have a potential perfect opportunity coming up. My mother-in-law is turning 60, so we are taking her to dinner. The plan right now is to go to our old but reliable standby of Corduroy, which I am sure would be fabulous as always. But would Komi be more exciting? We thought about Maestro but decided we didnt want to spend that much money. Would love to hear other's opinions - mom is not too picky so really anything goes. I am the only one with the food issues (vegetarian) but all these places are accomodating for me. What say you guys?
  10. Another option in Bethesda is Old Georgetown Grille, at the corner of Old G'toan and Fairmont. Nothing special, but a decent affordable breakfast in a somewhat quiet setting.

  12. I really hope this place lives up to the hype, us non meateaters need somewhere good to go for non-asian veg food. That being said, I will be holding out on my visit until the alcohol is flowing.
  13. Thanks all. Well since my stepdad is from the backwoods of NC (as am I), maybe I will steer him toward the duck. Most likely he'll go with the chicken though, unless it has a lot of ingredients that he can't pronounce...
  14. I'm heading to Corduroy tomorrow night with my mom and very picky stepfather. I've been many times but as I don't pay attention to what is offered beside the veggies, I was wondering if someone could fill me in on recent entree offerings. I was told that my stepdad will eat chicken, and some seafood, and...that's about it. I am a bit worried but I refuse to eat at some crappy chain just to appease him.
  15. I enjoyed Seasons 52 a few months ago when I was down there. Definitely the type of place that would do well in DC. Timpano has actually started serving the single-size desserts, but they are nowhere near as good as the ones at Seasons 52.
  16. Hubby and I made our only outing of this year's Restaurant Week to Corduroy last night. We've been there many times so we already knew we were in for a treat. For appetizers, I had the tomato salad and DH had the mozzarella porcupine. The tomatoes were fresh and delicious, but a bit too salted. Mozzarella was excellent. For main course, I had the vegetable plate (my only option as a vegetarian) and DH had the sea scallops based on everyone's recommendations. he'd never had scallops before as an entree but he loved them. The veggie plate was amazing, especially so b/c I made things difficult by voicing my dislike for mushrooms. I ended up with a whole plate of food that I liked, which is a rarity for me: mashed potatoes, mini-ravioli, spinach, carrots, sushi rice, and green beans. Everything was wonderful. For dessert, I had the kitkat bars and DH had the chocolate torte with banana. Both were great. Our waiter was Derek from Firefly's brother, and he was excellent. He recommended a great new wine for us to try. Our only complaint was that we both ate so much we made ourselves a little sick!
  17. The best pad thai I've had was from Amina Thai, the halal thai restaurant off Rockville Pike. No alcohol, which is a bummer, but great place to get take-out.
  18. I absolutely LOVE sunflower. As a vegetarian, it's so great to look at a menu and know you can order anything on it. If only I lived closer... We have a few similar places here in MD (Yuan Fu, Vegetable Garden), and they are very good, but they are no Sunflower.
  19. I wanted to go, but as a vegetarian I usually end up starving at these kinds of things. Have fun!
  20. We had our rehearsal dinner last October at Trattoria Sorrento, a highly overlooked italian joint in Bethesda. It was fabulous. They don't have a private room, but we had a section of the restaurant (split by a wall) for our 60 guests. I think it ended up being around $30/person (not incl. alcohol), but we had like 6 courses. Their website: www.trattoriasorrento.com I don't think they ever advertise, and I never hear anything about the place, but in my opinion it's one of the more authentic italian restaurants in the area. Family owned and run.
