  1. So every one of us should go tell PS what we think about his management skills and then sit down and pay for a meal? Aren't we by patronizing and paying also benefiting PS directly? Yes, PS threw out the baby with the bathwater. I don't think anyone is disputing that fact. It is an isolated incident, yet it is caused by only 1 employee. Why should 3 employees who have nothing to do with the breakdown and with no knowledge of such breakdown get fired? As for whether PS' practice is legal or illegal, I suppose someone with standing can sort that out. I'm not boycotting PS 7 over this incident but that may be because I'm not a big fan of that restaurant to start with and since he doesn't have my business anyway, it's silly for me to get all righteous and indignant.
  2. It doesn't seem fair to fire all 4 unless the four conspired together. But it doesn't sound like there was any sort of conspiracy to cover up for the one who is at fault. No wonder some of those fired told PS 7 to bugger off.
  3. Curiousity made me peek into this thread. Cliff Note: don't eat at Mixt or Dean will filet you alive.
  4. When we were in Morocco, we had no real issue getting beer in 4 and 5 star hotels (most hotels have minibars stocked with booze and a bar). Is that the case in Turkey as well?
  5. One of the most food-focused episodes that I've ever seen and it made me want to go to Turkey even more. I just have to figure out when.
  6. Loved the corn beef sandwich. I probably should have ordered 2 of them, or try the kishka. How is their kishka? What about the latkes and matsoh ball soup?
  7. Went to Harrah's to get away from the Boardwalk. It's a nice casino with a nice pool that turns into the hippest club in town at night. I ate dinner at Polistina's, the Italian joint in the casino. I did not make a reservation. Despite a restaurant that's half empty, I was told I could not get a table so I have to eat at the bar. When I ordered a pasta and a secondi, the bartender said "you must be hungry." Huh? My pasta and fish were both served at the same time. The branzino was already deboned and filleted with the skin removed - which I prefer to do myself. My pasta was overcooked. I thought about getting some breakfast before leaving but I'm glad I passed because the cornbeef sandwich at Attman's in Baltimore was delicious!
  8. Faidley's crab cake was fantastic! It really is the best. The coddie (cod and mashed potato, kind of like a knish) at Faidley's is surprisingly good as well. Both are worth the cholesterol hit. Can't say the same for fried chicken liver and gizzard. A small order of each was $3 and there were enough to clog several arteries. I only had one bite of chicken liver and 1 piece of gizzard. Gizzard beats liver but neither were all that good (from Parks).
  9. The Empress Dowager Ci'xi may be the most extravagant.
  10. Definitely interested. Can someone propose what to order? ETA - shank me baby!
  11. I think you're trying to kill me by elevating my cholesterol level. Should I try the coddies?
  12. Where dat at? Parks? Are you seriously recommending this or is this just to get me to eat more offal?
  13. Washingtonian ranks Liberty Tavern higher (very close though, 75 and 78 respectively). Whether Todd agrees with you, I don't know. ETA - Tallula is at 48. Where did Todd say he thinks Eventide is the best restaurant in Clarendon?
  14. Taking a trip to Lexington Marktet this weekend. Other than Faidley's, what else is good (no interest in sweets though)?
  15. I liked the Tiger sauce I'm no fan of BBQ but I found the beef sandwich edible, a little dry, a little smoky, but definitely edible. The cheese fries, mac 'n cheese....not horrendous just nothing special. My wife liked her BBQ pork sandwich but she's not inclined to go out of her way to go back. Something to do on the way home from NJ....once!
  16. I wish. It's more likely that my wife sleeps thru the dining experiences. She sleeps alot right now....and for the foreseeable future.
  17. While I'm not a scientist, this sounds suspiciously like those people who argue that global warming is just a myth. I'm all for more education and access to information, but I see no need to regulate salt content. On the other hand, I wish there're more reduced sodium products (e.g., there are no flavored low-salt potato chips, AFAIK).
  18. Thinking about stopping by this joint on the way back from NJ on MLK Day. Too lazy to do much research, should we go here or somewhere else? ETA: Looks like we should go to Canopy but that's a little out of the way. Does the difference in quality warrant the extra driving (considering we'll be driving home from NJ, already a 4 hr trip)?
  19. Mother in law will be in town after the baby is born. My wife wants to take her mom to Prime Rib. Question, does Prime Rib or any other restaurant prohibit infants? If so, how would you know other than to call every restaurant we plan on going to in advance?
  20. Hmm....Arabic name from an Italian brewer in the style of Belgian ale - seems interesting.
  21. Kind of like this [imagine a pile of coats behind the lady's back]?
  22. I agree that having someone intrude upon your personal space is annoying but I'm not sure that any restaurant would've done anything to rectify the situation. I think if this situation happens, you're just hosed. It's kind of like getting stuck next to a fat person on the plane (few airlines will require that person to buy 2 seats).
  23. Could it be too crispy? We had 3 pizzas this weekend, the Winter (clam), Classico, and Vermont. All 3 had cracker-like crust (which isn't necessarily bad, depending on what you like), otherwise the pizzas were terrific. I really loved the toppings on the Winter - whichever clams they used had lots of flavor, were cooked just long enough to open the shells. If they had crusts like 2 Amys or Red Rocks, I'd proclaim this the best pizza in DC.
