  1. Heading here tonight. Has anyone been lately? Can you give me a heads up on what to expect on the menu?
  2. So I had made plans to try this place before Rocks raved yesterday. But even after the rave I wasn't expecting to be impressed. It's just pizza, really, how much can you rave? Well. This is damn good pizza. I had the white pizza (garlic, mozzarella, olive oil) my friend had the margarita. And just, Wow. The crust is thin and crunchy. The perfect thin crust, not so crispy that it breaks like a cracker, but a good thin crisp crust. And kinda char grilled with a lovely smoky tang which I think was coming from the crust but that I also tasted in the tomato sauce. Not overpowering, just, interesting, in a good way. The caesar salad was drenched in dressing and I left most of it in the bowl. And our waiter was MUCH more interested in hitting on the waitress and the bartender and the girls at the bar than serving us (to the point where I finally just got up and handed my credit card to someone else so we could leave.) But that pizza. I'll be back for that.
  3. This parking garage does indeed exist, but it closes "early" I don't remember exactly (midnight maybe?), but too early for me to park there and still retrieve my car after a 9:30pm Komi reservation.
  4. I was in the "scrambled eggs must be cooked till dry" camp for a very long time. Then I discovered black truffle oil... Slightly runny egg, mixing with the truffle oil, so good. I will confess to licking the plate clean every time.
  5. For those data loving types: USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference Nutritional information for thousands of individual foods and well as many commercially manufactured ones. Search function isn't terribly sophisticated, start with a broad search and narrow from the results...
  6. as usual, good food and good conversation last night. thank you mdt for organizing. i had no trouble finding parking and successfully "pushed" the two hour limit (no ticket!)
  7. i'm going to maine this week, thursday through monday....it'll be my airport reading...
  8. Praise be! February is over! What a wretched month... I've managed to get the train back on the tracks here. Just returned from the gym (the second time this week!) Apparently eating really doesn't give your abs a workout after all. 18 pounds to go...
  9. Finally made it to Colorado Kitchen for brunch this morning, and glad that I did. Heeding previous warnings, we arrived 10 minutes before they opened to avoid having to wait in line. That said, I would have no problem waiting in line for more of those fresh made doughnuts. Powdered sugar, chocolate glaze, and honey and nut. Warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfect doughnuts. I had the orange french toast with bacon, and my friend had the eggs benedict with hash browns. Both were excellent and the portions were such that we had trouble clearing our plates. But that might have had something to do with the rich and creamy side of grits we also ordered... Coming from the food wasteland that is Takoma Park, I think I have found my new go to brunch place. I will definitely be back to try dinner.
  10. I don't think there is cheese in it. It is kinda creamy though.... There is cheese on top which I personally don't find offensive.
  11. I don't see a tapas class listed currently, but I think they have been offered by TasteDc before.
  12. It's 2007. If you are running a business, a website should be pretty high on your priority list.
  13. "My problem isn't knowledge, it is willpower." Amen to that. I haven't posted anything in regards to my progress lately because there has been no progress. It hit the skids at the end of January for my birthday and has continued to skid right through the February doldrums. In a particular fit of madness the other night, with an overwhelming desire to stuff anything and everything I could get my hands on, into my mouth, I called my mom and demanded "WHY DO I NEED TO BE THIN??" In her infinite mom wisdom she quickly retorted that I did not really need to be thin, but I really needed to be physically fit. Ok, ok, ok, I know that, thinness has never been my goal, fitness has. (Thinness being a not unpleasant side effect.) So then I need a therapist as well, as I am more than fully aware of exactly what it takes to be fit, a balanced diet and regular exercise, and yet putting this into practice remains my biggest challenge. I complete hundreds of complicated tasks every day barely lifting a finger and THIS is what brings me down?! It's late, I'm rambling. I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring too. I sympathize and empathize. These days I try not to beat myself up about it. They say life is a marathon, not a sprint. The sun will rise in the morning and I will try again. *sigh*
  14. Happy Happy Hillvalley!! Enjoy your day!
  15. In the oven: Easy Baked Applesauce (use less sugar) On the stove: Potato Leek Soup (wanted something without cream) In the pan, cause I got hungry waiting for the soup: Tilapia in Mustard Cream Sauce Bring on the ice...
  16. I live in Takoma Park and have had my water delivered by Drink More Water for years. I have been happy with both the taste of the water and the service they provide. I dont bake bread though, so I cant attest to the water's performance in that area...
  17. My 29th birthDAY celebrations turned into birthWEEK celebrations... (and there are few friends I haven't seen yet, so more dinners loom (the horrors.)) So while I could post about the FABULOUS meals I had this weekend at Komi and Dino, I am instead, here, confessing. I was afraid to get on the scale this morning, I am sure the two pounds I lost last week are back, and probably with two more in tow... Anyone have any extra self control they could sell me? *sigh*
  18. How much do I love the tartare at Montsouris? Very, very much. And the chestnut cream dessert isn't bad either. Back on the diet tomorrow...
  19. I had a dinner party for 28 people back in November. The two crazy weeks I spent planning and cooking were more fun than I had had in a REALLY long time. Of course, my reaction to this was Food!! Catering!! Culinary School!! I MUST DO THIS ALL THE TIME! But. I am not convinced. I think part of the reason I love doing it so much is that is it different from what I spend all day everyday doing. It is creative and indulgent and makes people happy and and and. I worry that if it was my JOB, it would be just that, my job. Thoughts? (And with that, I am a ventworm )
  20. I am rarely speechless. But, well, here: Click.
