  1. In all the times I've gone to Ray's, I have never felt rushed, hurried or harried. Michael is a most gracious (albeit outspoken) host. While he may have strong opinions on a number of topics (as we all do), pushing your tush out the door before you've enjoyed every bite of food doesn't seem to be one.
  2. We went to a wine tasting and dinner at Acadiana held in one of their banquet rooms. There was a fair amount of room, the service was good and the food as well. (and the wine was wonderful). There are windows so you aren't tucked away in a closet, and yet far enough away that you don't disturb or are disturbed by others.
  3. Fine with me but might make for a peevish Grover...
  4. There are a ton of them in Taipei as well. Last time I was there, I spent a (somewhat out of focus) evening in one wrapping myself around a few Guiness and listening to the sound of English being spoken rather strangely and then ending up in a rather bad part of town....but that's another story...
  5. You've managed to pick a great manager for Rustico and I know it's going to be in good hands. We're looking forward to coming back but are going to wait a couple of weeks to allow the kitchen to get up to speed before we come in and ask to be fed...
  6. 7:00 is good for us...now to check with our Russian friends and see if they're good with that.
  7. after a short conversation with Yao and an even shorter one with Jerry, the consensus is: "Sure. Always room for one or two more"...now just to see if our friends can make it.
  8. Grover and I may have some Russian friends visiting and would like to bring them along if no one minds.
  9. What time are you openng on Sunday night? Grover and I are planning on comng by and we like to eat early and Rustico sounds like a proper warm up for Sopranos...
  10. If it's the latter part of April, Grover and I will try to make it as well. We passed on Fortune because we were there before and weren't impressed. We return from Venice on the 11th so anytime afterwards is fine with us.
  11. and a side of Pepto-Bismol...to go...
  12. Grover and I are there. Anyone need a ride from Braddock Road Metro?
  13. I'm partial to RT's fires....shoestring cut, crispy on the outside, fluffy and "potatoey" on the inside.
  14. a misdemeanor when good food is involved...and if you do it right, you don't even have to cross a main street...and afterwards, exercise to help the digestion.
  15. There certainly were..and I have only one thing to add...great steak, cooked correctly, presented well. Damn fine taste. Thank you Michael.
  16. when you order your cafe su dah, just ask for "extra hot water, please"....you should get same...at least I do. I have to admit I haven't eaten at Pho 75 in Maryland so I can't speak for them but it won't hurt to ask.
  17. Ah, it helps if you know the owner at Pho 75. When you ask, you get a white thermos filled to the brim with hot water....a second partial fill of the coffee holder (for lack of a better word), a few minutes of watching the coffee drip into the sweetened condensed milk, a bunch of stirring, into the ice and.....total bliss..just the way coffee should be (if it's not French Roast in France)
  18. sure even if the gourmet part is negatory...
  19. Try Jacks in Chinatown on 5th Street (?). Jack has been selling pho in Chinatown for over 10 years. It's not gourmet, but it's not bad at all.
  20. Any good Vietnamese restaurant will give you either a thermos of hot water or hot water in a tea pot if you ask. I prefer my cafe su dah a bit more watered down so I always ask. Haven't been turned down yet.
  21. I don't know...anybody who describes different servings of food as "first coarse", "second coarse" either can't spell or is using truth in advertising.
