  1. Should people over 30 have blogs? I don't know. But for the sake of balance, I appreciate this entry in Bruni's blog.
  2. While I do intend to read this book at some point in the near future, let me share with you a rather entertaining letter to Mr. Pollan. It's silly... _click_
  3. Yeah, there's a drive-thru. And there's also always skanky fogged windows on the joint. Yuck! I comment on how filthy the place looks everytime I pass by.
  4. Once I left half a Ray's Steak in a Red Top Cab. I never saw that steak again, but I called the dispatcher and asked him to radio the driver and tell him to enjoy the steak. I'm not sure what happened next, but he should have eaten it.
  5. AP: Hooter's Chairman Found Dead It's not clear to me whether he was 69 years old or if he was found dead in that position.
  6. I hear it's popping up this fall at 777 I Street NW. (Actually, I may have the address wrong. But do I really trust Linda Roth?) Anyone in the know care to elaborate ?
  7. I'm a sucker for Johnny Rooks' (Wabeck's) gazpacho. Maybe he can comment on his methods, but it's some of the best I've ever had. Rgardless of tradation, I like thick gazpacho than can ride in the spoon...and make it more easily into my greedy mouth without dripping onto my white shorts.
  8. I'm wearing a bib with pirates on it.
  9. The proceeds go to charity. The location must be original, convertibles are welcome, admission is $1. PG.
  10. I usually drink mojitos in the summertime when I lose my keys to best prepare me for either breaking and entering or tropical camping. The mint is invigorating and would probably hold strong for post tramatic lost keys stress (PTLKS) and locksmith screwed me big time pains.
  11. Does anyone have a video camera? I'd like to You Tube this event.
  12. Happy National Ice Cream Day, folks! In Ocean City and all the land... So, in celebration of Ronald Reagan's national day of ice cream, I'm going to make a point to eat some today. A nice cone that I will eat slowly and deliberately. I need about half the day to do some other crap, but after that, I will toss a coin (that has George Washington on it), do some tongue exercises and go! Anyone ?
  13. We need to start a thread: Good Restaurants with Highway Signs Deep in France, do they have signs on the road pointing you to good places to eat? Or yellow and black signs cautioning that winemakers are crossing? Likewise, we need to have the Rockwellian scale of substantive portioning: 1= very small portions/mandatory second meal 10= huge portions;mandatory post-meal fast and risk of reduced sexual activity, bloating and mild depression
  14. Indian near the metro is Delhi Club, and it's really, really, really good!
  15. And you didn't think Rissa was tough; you should have seen our fair lady probing and carving this thing. Lookit what we be jammin' on last night: Needless to say, delicious. Girl, thank you for the education and the usual generosity yesterday!
  16. Why can't Robert Duvall do it?
  17. [This was in my e-mail box for anyone who likes to play with dirt and go on road trips for a good cause ] VOLUNTEER FARM 277 CRIDER LANE WOODSTOCK, VA 22664 540-459-2090 NEWS RELEAEE FOR IMMEDIATE USE 7/14//06 WOODETOCK—The Volunteer Farm has issued “a call for volunteers to start harvesting.” Approximately 1,000 volunteers from the two previous years are being asked to return to the non-profit farm to harvest the crops to help feed the hungry in 25 counties and 9 cities of the Blue Ridge Mountains. “We know that we will probably not get as many people as we will need to harvest the many tons of food that is quickly maturing,” a farm spokesman said. “So we need to recruit many new volunteers “ He said, “Faming is frustrating, so it is of little surprise that we have been experiencing plenty of frustrations in this year’s attempt to feed our hungry neighbors. First, early spring was too wet for planting. Then, when we were able to plant the 15 acres planned for this year, the Volunteer Farm was hit by drought. As we were about to harvest the peas, the rains came and washed out the crop. “However, the whims of Mother Nature appear to have changed. With the recent rains came good growth, but also some extra insects. So we are now faced with a bumper crop, if we can get it out of the fields before the bugs eat it all. We have a tremendous quantity of bush beans, tomatoes and potatoes. We NOW need your help to harvest. “We need individuals, families and groups of all sizes. We are working six days a week (resting on Sundays) from roughly 8 am until noon. Check our website to see the days you are needed: www.VolunteerFarm.Org, and e-mail us when you are coming to help. The website also has directions to the farm and the liability waiver to be signed by parents not accompanying youngsters under 18 years of age. Please bring a friend, but come as soon as possible.” http://www.volunteerfarm.org/
  18. I noticed that Piola (Pizza) is opening in Rosslyn next to Cafe Asia. I'm sure it's just some international corporate mess (their other U.S. locations are in Miami and New York), but has anyone ever been who can tell me something more?
  19. Fortunately, there was once a time when no one had ever heard of Sushi Kappo Kawasaki, like three weeks ago. I would be upset nonetheless if someone had recommended it to me and it turned out that way.
  20. [Pregunta: Since when has Ray's been in the Urban Village of Clarendon? Seriously. Mister Day's is in Clarendon.]
  21. If Sushi Kappo was that mean to the soft-spoken and gentle kind of Don Rockwell, you can just imagine what they'd do with this guy!
  22. I'm dying for pork and pinot. A soft taco or two!
  23. In response to yesterday's cartoon, I resent that there was no emphasis on how much it sucks not to have a pro critic's food budget. Rookie critics dry clean their budget by getting that sixth course on a Tuesday. And then their kids have to go to shitty in-state schools and drive beat up cars .
