  1. Not sure it's open, but IOTA is fun and has free WiFi, too. Edited to add: It opens at 5. Opps. But they have a Happy Hour from 5-7 with bar snacks that cost $3 each. Next best bet is Murky Coffee.
  2. Did anyone see the bird's nest in the "C"? That was a lucky house sparrow. His name is Jimmy, by the way.
  3. Yeah, because it's too hard to do charity without watching tv or clicking on the internet at the same time. Maybe ABC will give you a free buzz to top it all off.
  4. You betcha. There was a mongo one there the last time I was there ( a week a go)... Very Springfield, USA in size (like, friggin' huge) and flat screen.
  5. Pines of Rome = Pints of Oil I've had my fair share of meals of past there. I worked somewhere that used Pines to cater just about everything. I don't think Don Rockwell would like their bread.
  6. How about buy the wine in DC or Virginia and drink it at home! The truth is, I like to drink it all and then drive home pleasantly drunk. But seriously, you're taking about driving an extra hour or two to bring home a bottle of wine with a cork in it.
  7. Are you guys for real doing this in Ray's parking lot? When I walked by this morning there was a hole in the asphalt almost the width of two spaces and seeingmly 6-8 feet deep...right in front of Ray's. Don't worry, Ray's et al (businesses in that shopping center) are apparently open and unharmed.
  8. [ Palena: 7-Eleven. Palena: Exxon. . Ray's bar: bp. Mihn's: CVS. Pho 75: Dry Cleaners. Corduroy: McDonald's. Murky Coffee: Greenberries. Taqueria Poblano: Whole Tools. Guajillo: Gua-rapo. Smoothie King: Boobie Queen. Farm Market: Starbucks. IOTA: Sports Club LA. ] [Here's Don: Citronelle, 7-Eleven. McDonald's. Starbucks. : Citronelle, 7-Eleven. McDonald's. 9. I had the L'Enfant (Grey Goose vodka, Chambord, Grand Marnier and lemonade) at Le Bar last night. It was tasty, but a steep $13. I liked the ambiance with all the pillows and cushy chairs; found the place to have a nice non-Washington feel (odd being just a couple block from The White House). So, anyone eat at Le Bar or Cafe 15 recently? I'll go there for a $15 burger if you tell me to.
  10. Take notice of the bird's nest in the "C" of ABC Liquor sign next to Ray's.
  11. Palena is very dry-the relative humidity is only 21% in there.
  12. I agree. Eggs get the pass. Scotch eggs, deviled eggs, etc. All eggs, I declare you free and clear of The Trite Food List. Love, God
  13. I'm inventing a flood-proof wine cellar and it will have a crazy warranty. Decanter magazine is going to pimp it for me. The death of a good bottle is a terrible thing. My Dad's so silly, though. I was talking to him about wine and flood damage and he's like: "Were the lables ok?" Silly man.
  14. Did you know that the most popular president in U.S. history according to the most recent Gallop poll is Ronald Reagan? ?? Do you know why, though? Because he was a great entertainer and he knew what was for dinner. That made him a more likeable guy. Anyway, what I meant to say is that the risi bisi and the charceuterie are up there with the best dishes I've had at Palena (which to me means: I'd have to fly to far away places and spend money I don't have to make the right comparaisons). Where do you get your eggs, Frank? Those eggs the best eggs in the world.
  15. Another easy way to look at the catalog of threads is in the low-fi version. Mostly, I just like to be anti-social and get exhausted of the blue. Go here and take a look at the various pages. You might not even know what you're looking for until you see all the back issues and what your competitors have done. If you see something with just two replies you can bet that there is room for discussion. Join me on the white pages!!
  16. Silence does justice to nothing. I really wish I had posted then because everything was more fresh in my mind, but I still have a vivid picture of the raspberry one. My friends and I loved all that was tasted (Mmm, the cheese was from Cheesetique that night!). Just to show off, this what was tasted: clicky I was pleasantly surprised to hear Wanders' had done everything at home and by hand; it's so great that independent candymakers are alive and kicking here (Die Mr. Goodbar!!). I remember being delighted by each of the confections I tried; I must have had a dozen (little self control). I'm really happy things are on schedule to see you guys are here on the board. I'll gladly be your taster from here on out...I like champagne, too. Cheers, Meaghan
  17. Why don't I? Because honestly I have one life to live and don't make a whole lot of money. I want less OK meals in my life...I feel about food the same way I feel about people. I want less OK people, more good ones.
  18. Eve might be a little overrated. Might, I said. Gotta go (door slaming, girl runs away)
  19. I like the art on display at Galaxy Hut; it's the guy who does the Crafty Bastard stuff for the Washington City Paper. Next time you're there, check out the painting of the two razors having a dinner conversation and recounting their day. Very funny! That's a great place to get away sometimes ( the perfect dive), to avoid excessive snobbery and the shopping cart madness at Whole Tools.
  20. I like the fact that people can unveil more than their gastronomic critcisms if they so choose. Chatiness or some diversion is healthful and should be allowed unedited (to an extent relating to food) in the designated threads. Keep the chatting here rather than yammering to my face when I'm trying to get my hard on at Palena. Personality goes a long way! When in doubt, suck ventworm nut!! If it weren't for Don's spirit, energy and sense of humor, this board would have no legs, gills or fins.
