  1. Has anyone been by this site recently and notice any activity? On a related note, I stopped by the relocated "original" Georgetown Bagelry on River Road this morning and found the bagels still to be a strong contender for the best in the area. Took home a "Miami Burger" (Cream Cheese & Lox) on an Everything Bagel. Nice.
  2. Had lunch on Sunday. The Rhode Island Clam Chowder was good. This was more akin to a clear broth than the more traditional New England or Manhattan variations. The clams were well cooked and not too chewy. It had water chestnuts in it, which I found somewhat jarring. I am not sure whether this is a traditional ingredient, but the juxtaposition of the crispiness of the water chestnuts with the softer textures of the rest of the soup ingredients did not work for me. The spinach and feta spanakopita was also a treat. It seemed to be lemon-accented. Flaky and not too dense. It was a bargain at $7.95. The rest of the menu seemed average and somewhat pricey. The hamburger is $10, and the prices go up from there. A pint of beer costs an alarming $7, but that didn't stop me from having a glass of the Boddington's Pub Ale. It is also a very kid-friendly environment. More than half of the tables of the half-filled restaurant had young children. Service has amiable and efficient.
  3. This week's haul from Great Country Farms (1/2 share portion): Paper sack full of shiro japanese plums (approximaately 25) 4 peaches Paper sack with a generous portion of green beans 1 large cucumber 2 fair sized beets with greens attached 1 cinnamon basil plant in pot
  4. Hard Times Cafe had a cart out there a year or two ago. Chili dogs. Haven't seen it recently, though. I guess they flooded the market what with their restaurant being directly across the street.
  5. That got me thinking. Someone should convince the Heidelberg Pasty Shoppe to sprinkle around Arlington a good half-dozen or more of that BBQ Cart they sell the grilled wursts w/ fixings on Saturdays outside their store. That would be a winner.
  6. Excellent Diablo Recommended w/ Cave Aged Amish Cheddar, Bread & Butter Pickle Chips, and Hell Sauce. If I am allowed to be bold, I would suggest a leaf of lettuce under the burger better to maintain bun integrity. Other than that, fast, efficient, and tasty. What's not to like?
  7. Probably true, but I found Nick Cho's response to be rather hilarious. Threats of "dick punching" always make me laugh. Indeed, I am laughing again as I type this.
  8. We have been getting a lot of fresh potted herbs this year with Great Country Farms. Does anyone have any tips for how we can clip and freeze these herbs to use through the winter? What I have been reading is just to freeze them on a tray and then transfer into separate airtight containers. Can it really be that simple? Thanks in advance.
  9. Why does the TB 4th of July poster state "EST 2007"? Did I black out for 6 months again and miss the 2007 opening? I hate it when that happens.
  10. No. My larger point is that the grumblings here seem to be presented more in the form of ad hominem attacks rather than legitimate gripes regarding the level of service one should expect in a neighborhood bar, a topic on which reasonable minds can differ.
  11. I do not know what it is about this place that seems to invite such unwarranted personal attacks on the staff. Hello. This is a sports bar. It is not always possible to intuit when you want a refill or a replacement pretzel. Sometimes, you just have to ask. Maybe if you lighten up and act a little friendlier yourself, you will find that the whole world will appear a little friendlier to you.
  12. Check out this chart showing the staggering rise in the price of a bushel of wheat. http://www.kingarthurflour.com/professiona...our-prices.html Remarkable.
  13. If you can believe it, apparently in Maine they sell something called the McLobster Roll. I am sure that is some treat.
  14. I read somewhere that McDonald's cannot call them milkshakes because there is not actually any milk in them. Perhaps it is just an urban legend, but if you look on the menu, they are just called "Shakes." God only knows what is in them.
  15. Free drinks on the New York Times this Friday the 13th at the Bruschetteria degli Angeli in the Centro Storico. http://frugaltraveler.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ome-for-drinks/
  16. Should this not read Three locations? Is not the Clarendon Nam-Viet part of the same family?
  17. My understanding is that not withstanding its location in Northern Virginia, it is indeed non-smoking. Smokers may proceed directly to the Cowboy Cafe for a smoking break.
  18. As noted, you can't go wrong with the Liberty Tavern. As an alternative, you might want to consider the Boulevard Woodgrill. http://www.boulevardwoodgrill.com/Boulevard_Woodgrill.html
  19. If you know the address you can look it up, but you need the actual street number. http://permits.arlingtonva.us/Query_by_Address.aspx It is unclear to me whether that location sports a Glebe Road or a N. 20th Road address.
  20. The fries, not so bad. Mine have always beeen crisp. As for sandwiches, this is a classic: 27. The Bureaucrat Turkey breast, melted muenster cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard dressing $6.25
