  1. I don't disagree. I just get surprised when anyone chooses a Bud.
  2. This looks to be the beer line-up. I am troubled at the President's choice of Budweiser, as it seems politically calculated to cultivate an "everyman" image despite the fact that Anheuser-Busch is not even American owned anymore. Could Bud actually be the President's favorite beer?
  3. I was on my way to Arrowine in the Lee Heights Shopping Center in Arlington and noticed a sign in the window of an empty storefront two doors to the west announcing the impending arrival of HomeMade Pizza Company. They appear to have a number of locations, including one in DC. It looks like they prepare you a pizza and you take it home and bake it. Sounds only marginally easier than spending $1.99 at the Italian Store for some dough and adding the toppings yourself, and I cannot imagine it could taste any better. Anyone ever try one of these?
  4. It looks like the Shirlington Bistro Bistro filed a trademark on the name, but that it was subsequently cancelled in 2004 because the owner failed to file the necessary declaration that the mark was still in use.
  5. I am going to go out on a limb and say that these two posters are speaking of their experience in the Jefferson Hotel at 101 West Franklin Street in Richmond, whereas the original poster was referring to the DC spot of the same name. The dinner menu for the Richmond variant does sport a Chicken Norfolk; no mention of how dry it is, however.
  6. Interesting piece. Good and honest writing.
  7. Speaking of shoes, this development must be alarming to Mr. Batali.
  8. Interesting article in the online version of NYT's T Magazine. Global Table | Nonstop Eating in Paris.

How about The Urban Lunchbox @ Urbana?
  10. According to the Large Black Hog Association (seriously): Read more here. It appears to me we are supposed to eat these hogs. I frankly cannot conceive of another reason why people would be actively breeding them. I suspect the Black Hog BBQ folks know this and have visited the Association's website, which contains the following passage: This appears on the Black Hog BBQ website About Us page rewritten as:
  11. Their Breakfast Burrito is also A-OK. Not too soggy and the burrito kept itself together through the very last bite. It could have used some salsa, but that's just me.
  12. More dated news of similar age, but with sufficient additional detail to merit posting a link.
  13. FWIW, I was in the Lebanese Butcher a few weeks ago and the most expensive cut of beef was a lowly $6.99/pound. Ground beef was $2 and change for a pound, and they grind to order it right in front of you.
  14. Yes. It completely reconditions the knife. You can read about the 3 stage process of the Chef's Choice here. I am no shill for these folks, but this product has done a wonderful job with my 20 year old knife set.
  15. I use the Chef's Choice Model 130 electric knife sharpener and it works like a champ. The only downside is that it ain't cheap.
  16. After clicking View New Content in the upper right, I clicked Mark Board As Read on the bottom of the page and that caught me up on all of the old posts. Now clicking on View New Content only shows me threads with new posts.
  17. Any chance these new standards when adopted will be followed? They seem to address more the environmental impact than the corn feed issue. More here.
  18. I didn't know that Tilapia were so controversial. Point Industry Sponsored Counter Point
  19. Based upon a quick comparison of the Bonefish menu to the Blue Ocean Institute Guide to Ocean Friendly Seafood, it looks like only the Tilapia is an unequivocally sustainable choice.
