  1. Hard Times Cafe had a cart out there a year or two ago. Chili dogs. Haven't seen it recently, though. I guess they flooded the market what with their restaurant being directly across the street.
  2. That got me thinking. Someone should convince the Heidelberg Pasty Shoppe to sprinkle around Arlington a good half-dozen or more of that BBQ Cart they sell the grilled wursts w/ fixings on Saturdays outside their store. That would be a winner.
  3. Excellent Diablo Recommended w/ Cave Aged Amish Cheddar, Bread & Butter Pickle Chips, and Hell Sauce. If I am allowed to be bold, I would suggest a leaf of lettuce under the burger better to maintain bun integrity. Other than that, fast, efficient, and tasty. What's not to like?
  4. Probably true, but I found Nick Cho's response to be rather hilarious. Threats of "dick punching" always make me laugh. Indeed, I am laughing again as I type this.
  5. We have been getting a lot of fresh potted herbs this year with Great Country Farms. Does anyone have any tips for how we can clip and freeze these herbs to use through the winter? What I have been reading is just to freeze them on a tray and then transfer into separate airtight containers. Can it really be that simple? Thanks in advance.
  6. Why does the TB 4th of July poster state "EST 2007"? Did I black out for 6 months again and miss the 2007 opening? I hate it when that happens.
  7. No. My larger point is that the grumblings here seem to be presented more in the form of ad hominem attacks rather than legitimate gripes regarding the level of service one should expect in a neighborhood bar, a topic on which reasonable minds can differ.
  8. I do not know what it is about this place that seems to invite such unwarranted personal attacks on the staff. Hello. This is a sports bar. It is not always possible to intuit when you want a refill or a replacement pretzel. Sometimes, you just have to ask. Maybe if you lighten up and act a little friendlier yourself, you will find that the whole world will appear a little friendlier to you.
  9. Check out this chart showing the staggering rise in the price of a bushel of wheat. http://www.kingarthurflour.com/professiona...our-prices.html Remarkable.
  10. If you can believe it, apparently in Maine they sell something called the McLobster Roll. I am sure that is some treat.
  11. I read somewhere that McDonald's cannot call them milkshakes because there is not actually any milk in them. Perhaps it is just an urban legend, but if you look on the menu, they are just called "Shakes." God only knows what is in them.
  12. Free drinks on the New York Times this Friday the 13th at the Bruschetteria degli Angeli in the Centro Storico. http://frugaltraveler.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ome-for-drinks/
  13. Should this not read Three locations? Is not the Clarendon Nam-Viet part of the same family?
  14. My understanding is that not withstanding its location in Northern Virginia, it is indeed non-smoking. Smokers may proceed directly to the Cowboy Cafe for a smoking break.
  15. As noted, you can't go wrong with the Liberty Tavern. As an alternative, you might want to consider the Boulevard Woodgrill. http://www.boulevardwoodgrill.com/Boulevard_Woodgrill.html
  16. If you know the address you can look it up, but you need the actual street number. http://permits.arlingtonva.us/Query_by_Address.aspx It is unclear to me whether that location sports a Glebe Road or a N. 20th Road address.
  17. The fries, not so bad. Mine have always beeen crisp. As for sandwiches, this is a classic: 27. The Bureaucrat Turkey breast, melted muenster cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard dressing $6.25
  18. not only the old days. i once shared a house with a friend for a summer who kept a pot of beef stew simmering on the stove on low heat 24 hours a day for over two months. he ate it for every meal. as the contents started to deplete he would just add more. he was not much for most vegetables, so it was mainly potatoes and the cheapest grade of beef available from Safeway at the time.
  19. This is just about the most home-spun website I've seen. http://www.trattoria-dafranco.com/index.htm Good food, to boot. The menu and the ambience reminds me of my recent visit to Rome. You gotta love the "employees" page. http://www.trattoria-dafranco.com/index_fi...coemployees.htm
  20. Since you mentioned McLean, have you tried the McLean Family Restaurant on Chain Bridge Road? It seems to fit your description. It has always had a crowd when I have been there for breakfast so it must be doing something right. A good diner experience in an otherwise bland strip mall environment that is the signature of McLean. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?n...&id=1124419
