  1. I just wanted to say how impressed I am with how accommodating, flexible and responsive you are, Chef. This will be the third DR dinner of yours I've attended. You are such an asset to this community. Thank you! I cannot wait for this event!
  2. I was thinking what cheezepowder expressed. As a Clarendon resident, I would happily go to Courthouse if there were better options. I think the lack of customers has more to do with what is being offered than location.
  3. Count my +1 and me in! This looks awesome, Daniel. Thanks for organizing.
  4. Me Jana in Courthouse or La Tasca in Clarendon fit the bill. Tallula also has small plates and would be my top pick for food. Have a fun night out!
  5. Add me to the list. I am planning to be there with a vegetarian side dish. Possibly +1.
  6. Last night, MBK and I attended an Ethiopian cooking class at this new restaurant just a few doors down from Etete (1924 9th St, NW). They have only been open for 3 months. It was a fun night organized through the International Club of DC. All of the restaurant employees were as lovely as you could imagine - very friendly and hospitable. More importantly, however, the food was wonderful. After the cooking demonstration they served us full platters of a variety of vegetarian dishes and a couple of meat dishes. Everything was delicious. Etete had been my favorite since I tried it a over 2 years ago, but I think that next time I am going to give Little Ethiopia a try. My favorite dish was the beets and I hope they have that on their vegetarian platter. The decor is very traditional. The woman who hosted the event (the owner?) explained that everything in the restaurant was straight from Ethiopia and that they wanted people to feel like they had gone to Ethiopia without buying a plane ticket. I urge you to give this place a try. I don't know how they'd do with a large group, but perhaps a $20 Tuesday is in order.
  7. Welcome, David. I work nearby and have wondered about your sign I've seen out on the sidewalk. Your post makes me more inclined to check out the restaurant.
  8. Welcome, Lynn. I already sent your post to my friend who lives in Stafford. Hopefully he'll bring me one to try
  9. I've never eaten at Jackson's, but they catered an event I attended last fall. The food was really poor and that incident has prevented me from going there. I really should give them another chance. But the cold sandwiches and salads they served at the event were,a t best, equivalent to what you'd get at Giant. If I decide to give them a try I will report back.
  10. Most of the time, I freeze it for later use. It freezes beautifully.
  11. Hey! What happened to this thread? Is it just me or are we missing a couple of weeks worth of posts? ETA: I see the Spice Xing posts moved to a separate thread on dcdining. Is that how we will organize future dinners? What am I missing?
  12. Great! I vote for any of the three June dates.
  13. Confirmed. Ebbitt Express is serving Corned Beef and Cabbage today with your choice of mashed or oven-roasted potatoes.
  14. Ebbitt Express usually has corned beef & cabbage on St. Patty's Day, and for a couple of days after.
  15. Anyone else for Meaza tomorrow? If you're a $20 Tuesday newbie, or even an Ethiopian food newbie, this will be a great dinner for you to attend.
  16. A great meal last night. Thanks, all! Cumin lamb is always one of my top picks and it didn't disappoint last night. I plan to follow Eric's suggestion to try the cumin fish next time. My new favorites from last night are the Garlic Fried Flounder (which is almost as good as my favorite Salt and Pepper Shrimp) and the Spicy Sichuan Ribs. I really enjoyed the steamed cod more than I expected to, and the tea-smoked duck was also a nice surprise.
  17. This is an exciting addition to the Penn Quarter restaurant scene. I look forward to checking it out - probably once they start lunch service.
  18. Where is Nam Viet? The one in Clarendon?
  19. According to their website, they are located on Strawberry Lane, in Fairfax (Merrifield). Can anyone confirm this?
  20. Why don't we say Feburary 17th at Meaza (on Columbia Pike near Seven Corners). Who's in?
  21. How about Ethiopian? Any interest in Meaza or Etete in early February?
