  1. We are definitely interested in dinner! I've been meaning to try this place.
  2. I noticed the signs for this place last night in Cheogajip. It must be the same owners. This morning I saw a Living Social deal to Ultimate Chicken Bistro. Sounds like it is worth checking out.
  3. I visited the Annandale location for the first time last night. I ordered half roasted and half fried. I later requested to add hot and spicy sauce and wound up paying $2 additional for a side of sauce. It sounds like that was a mistake and that I should have ordered the chicken spicy to start with and I would have gotten a different product. Nevertheless, the chicken was fabulous and the sauce worked well on both kinds. Of course the fried was better than roasted, but the roasted was good. The cole slaw and the korean cabbage salad were both fine but unexceptional. The $2 side sauce is at least a cup and we used about 2 tablespoons. Now to decide how to use all of that extra goodness...
  4. I wish Pupatella was open on Sundays, too. My vote goes to Church Street Pizza in Vienna. I love their New York style slices. As good as this Long Island girl has found around here (and I live about 2 miles from Valentino's).
  5. More information from Zagat: High-end chef and restaurateur Michel Richard (Citronelle, Central, Michel) will enter the fast-casual food world with Meatballs, a spiffy counter-serve prototype opening in the Penn Quarter in two-to-three weeks. Lamb, beef, chicken, crab and even a lentil-and-oat version will be doused with the customer’s choice of sauces (marinara, mushroom, alfredo and more) and nestled in hoagie buns, or over pasta or salad greens – all for under $10. Beer and wine should be available soon after it opens (624 E. St. NW; 202-393-1083).
  6. Anyone friendly with DC Eater? Check this out. Maybe he/she can assist/advise.
  7. I'm not a techie, but I can type. Sign me up if help is needed.
  8. I totally agree. The multiple locations issue bothers me as well. I love the idea of a map. Didn't a former DR member have a blog with a feature like this? Eric - the home brewer/photographer. Right? It has been a few years...
  9. Chiming in again. I bought the punch card deal for $5 rolls and used it for the first time yesterday. My spicy salmon roll with cream cheese, pickled onion, avocado and green onions was tasty. I wasn't thrilled that the avocado was slightly underripe, but hey, the roll was good overall. The was very filling and I think that next time I might get the medium roll, which is an option for $1 less. I'm not sure how they make it smaller - if they use less rice or less filling. BTW, they now have a website, complete with a menu and nutritional information (with typos) .
  10. Had a very enjoyable lunch at Oh Fish today. I was happy with the roll I designed: salmon with avocado, sweet tofu and pickled onions, habanero masago, citrus soy and crunchy rice balls. Not a bad value for the large size of the roll, but next time I'd leave out the masago ($1 extra), as it wasn't much and I couldn't really taste it with everything else going on. You could definitely tell that there was a machine element to the roll, as the rice was more pressed than it would be by hand. It detracted from the taste a bit, but not enough to keep me from returning. The seaweed salad was the same delicious creamy recipe as you get at Kaz Sushi Bistro, but it would have benefitted by coming to room temperature; it was too cold straight out of the refrigerator case. The total meal was $14 and was filling. I wish it were closer to my office.
  11. You are very welcome. I hope she has as nice a time as I did.
  12. I took a class last weekend at Beryl's Cake Decorating in Springfield and it was wonderful. Beryl is a nice British lady and she is really pleasant and fun. I'm on the road right now, but I would recommend googling the shop and giving her a call. I bet she'd be willing to set up a private class. Tell her I sent you.
  13. Are there really no reviews other that the one above? I bit the bullet and have a LivingSocial voucher for Pinzimini to use before the end of the July. Am I going to wish I hadn't wasted the money?
  14. I am head over heels for Red Mango. The more I have, the more I want. The flavors here are so pure. I agree that the coconut is a winner! My true favorite is the dark chocolate. A small cup (which is not small) is under 200 calories (they say 140 calories but I just can't believe it) and is very filling. I think that the medium size would be a whole meal for me. The topping choices are excellent and include lots of fresh fruit, as well as some unusual choices that I've come to love like mochi, ghiradelli dark chocolate chips, and a new addition "popping boba" - little beads of mango or strawberry juice. If you've seen their advertisements, you know that Red Mango emphasizes that they are 100% natural and use no high fructose corn syrup. In addition to the standard cups of yogurt with toppings, they also offer parfaits with granola, smoothies, and frozen hot chocolate (take that, Serendipity). I tried the frozen hot chocolate and really enjoyed it. Also, if you join Club Mango you get points for purchases as well as a $5 credit for your birthday. My only complaint is that now that I've moved away from Clarendon I have to deal with parking in order to get my fix. Can someone please open a franchise in Falls Church? Or downtown DC? Pretty please with mochi on top. Advertisement over. Now I'm craving yogurt...again.
  15. I recently moved to Lake Barcroft, just a few miles from Mark Center. (Perhaps we should start a thread for dining near Lake Barcroft...) We tried Hang Sung Oak and really enjoyed it. My friend lived in Korea for several years and pronounced the food to be up to her high standards. We rediscovered A&J in Annandale, which is only 4.5 miles from Mark Center. We agree with all of the praise on the A&J thread on these boards. I crave those Pan Fried Dumplings around the clock. On Sunday my step-daughter and I enjoyed an excellent sushi meal at Yamazoto. The sushi was very fresh and the rolls were creative. I can't believe they deliver (for a nominal $1 fee). This is going to be very dangerous. Valentino's is our go-to pizza place. I tried Valentino's shortly after they first opened (maybe 8 years go?) and gave them a thumbs down. I decided to give them a second try when I was stuck in the house after surgery and they were the best option for delivery that I could find. I am really glad I did. I still prefer Church St. Pizza in Vienna, but Valentino's gets my vote for best pizza delivery to my house and they also have lots of good non-pizza choices like the pasta my step-daughter ordered on Friday. As for chicken, we liked Pollo Campero on Columbia Pike. We weren't that impressed with the Super Pollo in the Harris Teeter shopping center. We are big fans of Meaza on Columbia Pike. I like their vegetarian platter. Speaking of Ethiopian, has anyone tried the Ethiopian place (Enat?) on Lincolnia Rd - near Landmark Plaza? What about the new chicken place where Pizza Hut used to be?
  16. Thanks to this thread and our sushi cravings, we tried Hokkaido early Saturday evening. Dinner was $18.95 per person. It was as good as any buffet of this type... The space was clean and modern, as you would expect from a newly-opened place. It was relatively empty when we arrived, but it became very busy within the hour we were there, and we definitely stood out as some of the only Caucasians in the place. (That's a plus, in our book.) The service was very good for such a new place. The manager was a very nice young lady who was making rounds to check on everyone personally. The sushi seemed fresh with plenty of selection (rolls, nigiri, sashimi). It wasn't fabulous, but it was sufficient. You really had to hunt for the soy sauce cups (which are to the right of the mongolian grill.) They offered a really wide selection of other dishes. Lots of Chinese food (which was so-so) and many kinds of seafood. The highlights for me, other than the sushi were the steamed crab legs, followed by the salt and pepper calamari. They also offered peel and eat shrimp, some kind of fried, shell-on shrimp, oysters, crawfish (in sauce) and many other things which I was not able to try. The dim sum offerings were really disappointing. The two different varieties of steamed, doughy buns that I thought might have BBQ pork inside had a sweet substance that I am guessing was bean paste. The three kinds of dumplings suffered from too much time on the steam table and general lack of flavor, although it was very early in the dinner hour. The seafood pancake was greasy but at least it had some flavor. Hubby enjoyed the spareribs and the roast beef (not sure of the cut, other than large and rare). I took a stab at the mongolian grill. The beef was a big thick cut and the chef chopped it into small pieces and seasoned it for me, cooking it to order. I enjoyed it with the pineapple I added to my stir fry. We won't rush back, but next time we want a quick Asian food fix with a lot of variety, we'd consider returning - probably in a year or so.
  17. We are in. Dish TBD. probably a veggie side of some sort.
  18. Some of these deals are excellent. I'm interested to hear what the crowds are like. It might not be worth it if it is insanely crowded.
  19. I completely agree. My only wish is that I lived or worked closer to Radius. I am still dreaming about the special bacon, [house-made] bacon and pasta dish I enjoyed last month. I am giving Chef Todd partial credit for my marathon PR that same weekend.
  20. Thanks, goodeats! You are very kind!
  21. Two days later and I can't stop thinking about the Catahoula that I enjoyed Friday afternoon. It was absolutely worth every calorie and every penny. The beer-boiled all beef hot dog had a great flavor and even better texture. It was a little hard to bite but that made it more fun. The onion marmalade was unbelievable. The creole mustard added the perfect kick. Of course, the roll was outstanding. I highly recommend it. On a side note, I misplaced my hat 9in my pocket, but let's not talk about that]. When I asked the staff if anyone had turned it in, everyone bent over backwards to help. Another way I was impressed on my visit.
  22. According to ARLnow.com, Sette Bello will be closing after tomorrow and will be replaced by another outpost of American Tap Room.
