  1. Last night: Prime NY Strip Steak from Ayershire Farms Black Eyed Pea salad w/fresh arugula tomotoes Arugula & Marche salad Bottle of 2002 Ramey Claret. Very nice.
  2. That is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time.... Dean, I'm coming in next week I'll bring you a bottle!
  3. Lately I've been enjoying Pappy Van Winkke's Family Reserve 20 & 23 year old bourbon. Amazing stuff if you can get your hands on it. I found it at the Wine Specialist.
  4. I heard Dean's putting it on the list.
  5. Last night: 2003 Kosta Brown Kanzler Vineyard Pinot Noir Tonight: Either a 2003 Saxum Bone Rock Syrah or a 2002 Martinelli Bondi Home Ranch Pinot Noir
  6. Went to Mendocino last night and as usual a stellar meal was had. I think I found one of my favorite wine pairings....Kosta Brown Kanzler Vineyard Pinot Noir and Mendocino's Steelhead Trout. The steelheads won't be around forever so I would give this a go soon. The trout was perfectly cooked good fat content seriously rich, just awesome....and the funny part was this wasn't even my dish. The little lady was nice enough to give a couple tastes. I had the pan braised rabit which was outstanding as well. The nicest part was the fact that for a busy small restaurant we were not rushed at all. Our waiter seemed to realize that we were not in the quick meal mood and didn't hoover push nothing. He kind of took his ques from us and let us sit as long as we wanted. They definetly didn't turn our table last night. Great meal.
  7. Grilled Flat Iron Steak Sweet Potatoes Brussel Sprouts
  8. Last night with Seared Scallops. 2003 Ramey Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay. In my oppinion one of the best california chards out there. I would put this up with Aubert, and Kistler single vineyards in a second. If you can find it buy it.
  9. Just a heads up I got the Bay Scallops from Whole Paycheck in Clarendon last night and they were fantastic. Very fresh, very sweet. I just simply seared them A-La Micheal Landrum in the cast iron and wow, good stuff.
  10. Check this out....Zagat put Ray's top of the list for DC area Steakhouses. Personally I think Zagat is about as useful as a screen door in a submarine but there you have it. I guess the reservation snafu's aren't hurting the ratings! http://www.zagat.com/promo8.aspx?emailid=steakemail
  11. In the new Cooking magazine there is a great article with recipies on braising short ribs. I plan on trying one this weekend and I'll let you all know who it turns out.
  12. Mark that is a major bummer! At least you smelled good. Sine Qua Non doesn't last long in my house I end up drinking the stuff instead of cellaring it. Infanticide? yep but it's soo good. I hate trying to stack Turley, that's impossible. I have some Satenay as well from Pocusse D' Or that's tuff to fit in the cave.
  13. Yikes. The old vines is good, but not 55 dollars good. And I had the 2003 Juvenile last night and even 35 if expensive for that.
  14. Sorry kids the tapping party was last weekend which I think I'm still hung over from. We go through a keg a month if we can manage to throw three or so party's during that time. I don't think we will have a problem with this keg people love the Dogfish.
  15. I currently have a keg of Dogfish 60 minute on tap at the house. great stuff.
  16. I remember the moment well. I was at Mendocino Grill and I had a 1998 Archery Summit Premier Cuvee Pinot with a roasted salmon dish that sent me into this fiduciarily irresponsible hobby of collecting wine. I had another recent Ah hahh moment while having dinner at Marcel's with a 1991 Domaine Leroy Richebourg and veal cheeks.
  17. Many thanks Dean for this wealth of information. Great stuff!
  18. I'm confused who kills who in this equation? The goose or the hunter? I have a mission right now.......GET MY BUTT TO EVE!!!
  19. Go with the tasting menu. I didn't last night only because I had an 8:30 reservation and wasn't up for a long culinary experiance. Next time I'll definetly go with the tasting menu.
  20. I find the best way to get my hands on Turley is to join an online community such as vinocellar and there are usually folks that are willing to share some of their allocation.
  21. I had a marvelous meal at Marcel's last night. Service was spot on and the room quite comfortable. My Maine Diver Scallop appetizer was fantastic. As was the veal cheeks special entree. If you had the distinction of having the veal cheek dish on the menu at Nectar before it closed you should quickly get yourself to Marcel's to try this. Very similar presentation and perfectly prepared. Awesome.
