  1. Yeah, I wish I could find a way to "honestly" do that... see this article by Joan Nathan for an interesting discussion of the changes in what is kosher for Passover... http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/05/dining/05leav.html
  2. I'm being taken to dinner tonight at Houston's in Bethesda... I looked online and all I could find was that they are a chain, which doesn't endear them to me to begin with. Has anyone been? Are there any redeeming qualities? Anything I should avoid?
  3. It's a great read... and please report back, if you find a bialy you like in DC! I bring them back from trips to NY or to visit my grandmother in Florida...
  4. I'm hosting my first Passover seder, and am in need of a kosher chicken. Anyone know where I can find one? I know about the places in Rockville, but I need somewhere metro-accessible, and preferably in the District or on the red line. Thanks!
  5. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to bow out -- NCPinDC, don't feel bad -- I really should stay in tonight and get some work done. But the next time you guys venture out for good Chinese food, count me in.
  6. Shogun's list is excellent. I'd say The Frog or Lindy's is your best bet. The Frog used to have half-priced pizza on Mondays (at least, back when I was a GW student), FYI.
  7. Okay, as long as I can figure out transportation (thanks NCPinDC!) I'm in!
  8. Is anyone driving from the city, or willing to do a pickup/dropoff at a metro stop? (I think the restaurant is not metro accessible, right?)

I'm with you on that one. It was gorgeous!
  10. Wanted to quickly post a few restaurant recommendations in Charlotte -- I had my first visit there last weekend. Although we didn't try any of Olivia's recommendations, I have a few of my own: Mai (Japanese) -- pretty authentic, excellent quality sashimi, and they have natto on the menu (exciting for my dad, less so for me). Mimosa Grill -- had an excellent lunch there (in the heart of downtown). Try the pecan crusted trout! Patou -- fantastic food and service in the South End neighborhood (I think). Specials are excellent, and the rabbit on the regular menu is phenomenal. Liu Liu (Asian fusion) -- this is in Baxter, and is a really great restaurant -- I don't usually like Asian fusion, but we asked the owner for recommendations of authentic Chinese options (she is Taiwanese) and they were very tasty. Try any of the dumplings, and the eggplant.

So I am a lucky college basketball fan, because I have this Thursday and Friday off and am free to watch 32 basketball games (or as much of them as CBS will show) in just two days! Question is, where do I go to do so? I could go to ESPNZone or Buffalo Billiards, but that dooms me to mediocre (at best) food while I watch. Any better ideas?
  12. Mmmm, So's Your Mom *is* good, and I haven't been there in ages! Guess where I'm going this weekend...... And by the way, I love a good corned beef and chopped liver sandwich, so thanks for that tip as well!!
  13. It's Purim-time... and I do love an apricot hamentashen! Anyone know where a good one is in the area? I've tried the ones at K's (not terribly impressed) and at the bakery in Eastern Market (better, but still not blown away). Any ideas? --- So's Your Mom (eating_out)
  14. Wow, DanielK was fast! That was delicious -- thanks again to Grover and Escoffier for organizing! It was a great first event for me -- excellent food, and great company! Can't wait til my next DR event.
  15. But do we think Johnny's is moving? Or just opening a new location? It would be a huge loss for my sanity if the bar at Johnny's is no longer a couple of blocks from my house...
  16. Ceiba was my top recommendation to my boss, I think if they can handle that crowd it would be the perfect fit.
  17. My boss is planning a cocktail party for 40-50 people. She'd like it to be at a bar area of a restaurant within a couple of blocks of the JW Marriott. In the past she has held the event at Red Sage, but she feels it is too small. Any suggestions?
  18. This sounds great! If there's room in one of the cars to/from DC or a metro, count me in!
  19. Does anyone know the recipe for the bloody mary served at Acadiana? All I know is, it has pepper-infused three olives vodka (where can I get that?) I'm going to a "make your favorite cocktail" party in a few weeks, and I want to make that one!
  20. Right. But I'm going there Monday. So I wanted something different for Sunday
  21. Anyone have recommendations for a mellow dinner on Sunday night? I'm thinking something like the cafe at Palena (not open on Sundays)... any DC neighborhood except Penn Quarter, no sushi, moderate price. Right now I'm thinking Hank's Oyster Bar, or Dino. But I'd be open to other suggestions... Thanks in advance!
