  1. Found this job posting on Indeed: Asian Latin fusion restaurant with food designed by Top Chef star, Katsuji Tanabe. Looking for experienced servers in the heart of Clarendon. Full availability is preferred with experience working in a fast paced, trendy and casual environment. Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
  2. Pillsbury Bake-Off is open for submissions
  3. I overbought fresh corn at the market last week, so I nuked what I hadn't used up and, once it cooled, cut the kernels off the cobs. The cobs I then broke in half and put in the Instapot with about 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Cooked under pressure about 8 minutes. Fabulous corn stock. I refrigerated it and this morning put together a chilled corn soup. I'll pick up some crab while I'm shopping today for a lovely cold soup dinner tonight.
  4. The chef from Hula Girl was on last night. Knocked out in the 2nd round. and I got an email that informed me that Chef Ypes from Silver Diner will be on a Sunday night showing of Beat Bobby Flay on August 5
  5. I ended up with matching two metal big tablespoons or smallish serving spoons. I'm happy to return them to the rightful owner, whoever that may be. They're clean now
  6. I gave up on Oreos when the transfats were taken out. Totally changed the texture of the filling and made them unpalatable to me. I still like the chocolate cookie part, but I'd rather pull them apart, scrape the original filling out, and put a schmear of something else on top of the cookies.
  7. And the tomatoes! Oh my goodness, so much goodness! Unfortunately, I lost track of what I was tasting but there wasn't a clunker in the bunch.
  8. So sorry you couldn't make it. Another successful picnic, and everyone who thought about coming but didn't, you missed out on great food & great company. And I am now the keeper of the DR picnic supplies.
  9. I like Trotz, but I am unsure how much of the Cup win can be attributed directly to his coaching. I guess we'll find out in the upcoming season. The fact that the players have been largely silent on the issue after the 3-4 days post-announcement of his leaving indicates to me that they aren't bothered by the fact that he's gone, so they must be very comfortable with Reirden taking over HC duties.
  10. Turns out I do not have paper plates. However, I'm adding bottled water to my brings.
  11. I think I have plates, but I'll check tonight when I get home. Is anyone bringing charcoal for the grill?
  12. Had dinner here last night. Service was friendly and efficient, prices were quite reasonable. I ordered #34 -- and discovered it's not my thing. I thought it was very one-note, flavor wise, and I got bored with it quickly. I brought fully half of it home and this morning, eyeing the container in the fridge, decided I wouldn't enjoy it any more the second time around and tossed it out. Even nibbling on the banchan between bites of the ja-jang myun didn't help -- it only served to remind me I was disinterested in my entree. I get that it's a homey, comfort food type of dish, but it just doesn't seem like there's any "there" there to my palate.
  13. I ended up doing some pork ribs as my first go in the pot. Moist & a bit too tender at 25 minutes; 22 would have sufficed, and finished with some commercial BBQ sauce under the broiler. Not as good as long smoked & grilled, but so dang easy and clean--up was easy as well.
  14. It's early, but the weekend weather reports look promising -- mostly sunny & 88 for Sunday.
  15. I know there's a twisty little intersection to cut across 1 over to DelRay from Potomac Yard -- comes in by Swing's Coffee. Once you learn that route, you'll have all those choices. Also, by car you'll be near Rustico. And Crystal City / Pentagon Row are close, too (Lebanese Taverna, the Afghani place on 23rd St, etc.)
  16. you and everybody else ;D It's hell being popular! (and I'm surprised you let a line about my good peaches go unmolested)
  17. Two large grills are available. If you're willing to man the grill, I'll bring the thighs ready for cooking instead of doing them beforehand. And I may change the dessert type thing to something peach-based, since the peaches are in and tasting so good now.
  18. On fine days, I've been walking along the river at lunchtime in Old Town, and I had noticed an office building in the Canal Center with an upper floor restaurant/patio. Well, today I went with an office mate and we checked it out. It's called Cafe 44, and it's on the 4th floor of 44 Canal Center. Such a gorgeous day, we got a seat out on the terrace. Beautiful view of the river. The space is very clean and modern, whites & grays with touches of orange. The food is nicely done, fresh and with some thought. Today I got a Potomac Peach Salad ($6 small/$10 large, plus $2 or $3 upcharge, respectively, for chicken) that comes with a peach vinaigrette. Nice salad of peaches, apple slices, goat cheese & cashews on an arugula/mixed greens base. The vinaigrette was tasty although a bit on the sweet side, but with the goat cheese and arugula, things balanced out pretty well. The large is not so very large, I would say somewhat smaller than a GAR entree salad. Office mate got the hummus veggie wrap ($7) and enjoyed it. They also have beer, wine & cocktails. Open for breakfast and lunch during the week, for brunch on Saturdays only. Prices are moderate with a few things seeming a bit high -- they had a hamburger special today that was $16, for instance (served with orzo salad or chips). Sandwiches come sans accompaniment but you can do a combo that adds a soda or tea, chips & a cookie for another $4. Service was a little slow but not terribly so, and we were on the far end of the patio from the kitchen door, which might have added to that. Oh, and you can reserve your favorite table. There's also a goodly amount of inside seating with window walls so you can still enjoy the view. A respectable choice for a weekday breakfast or lunch.
  19. FYI, Amazon Prime day has the 6 quart Instapot for $59 (usually $99). And, yes, I took advantage of the deal.
  20. I'll bring a few bags of ice, some sort of dessert -- key lime bars or oatmeal raisin cookies -- a vegan corn & cashew salad, and I'll do up a big bunch of mustard & herb grilled/roasted chicken thighs.
