  1. I'll chime in for Steve's Prince of Steaks. Love the thicker steak and crispier rolls as noted upthread. While not the best in Philly, I always have good luck at both Pat's and Geno's (wiz with) but I've never been a big fan of Jim's. An excellent cheesesteak can be had at Shank & Evelyn, near the Italian Market. I'll also recommend John's Roast Pork, though they have limited Saturday hours and are only something like 7am to 5pm Mon-Fri. Thanks, Kevin
  2. While I don't want to be like Slick Willy and ask what is the definition of IS, I think it's important in this instance that Joe H didn't want to be "allowed" to use a "Reserved" glass, he wanted to at least be able to 'rent' one while there. I think letting him 'rent' one would discourage a stampede of the great unwashed wanting everything everyone else is getting. Sadly you are right that when one person gets a perk, every mouthbreather in the place will want it.That said, I think it’s unconscionable they didn't make some effort to accommodate Joe. Thanks, Kevin
  3. House of Gyro has table service with a waiter (the owner) if you eat in where at Marathon, you just picked a table. HoG is more like a full servcie restaurant though they certainly have carry-out. I think the bread is better at HoG than Marathon, though it's been a few years since I've been to Marathon, though I always loved it. In addition to gyro and felafel (and the usual sandwiches), HoG has kabobs, daily specials and they advertise Turkish coffee.Sadly, I've not been to Zorba's. One day. Thanks, Kevin
  4. Went yesterday and had an excellent gyro and an excellent falafel. The bread was maybe a little more well done than I like (not sure if it was toasted or just well done - seemed toasted as nowhere was it black), but the gyro was moist and had great flavor and the sandwich wasn't overstuffed. The falafel was also moist and had just enough tahini to not overwhelm. The tzaziki was served on the side and was good, though some may find it a little on the bland side. Definitely worth a stop if you're near 28 & Georgia Ave. Thanks, Kevin
  5. They list a Lobster Roll on the sample lunch menu for $16.70 which seems reasonable enough for a quality lobster roll. If they serve it in the bar after work (or anytime for that matter) it would make a great mini-meal with a drink or two. I didn't see the lobster roll on the sample dinner menu. Thanks, Kevin
  6. Hopefully there are some mess boys around Kevin
  7. As a mega-pessimist (the glass is not 1/2 empty, it's broken and sticking in my foot) I doubt you will be dissapointed. I highly recommend the scallops as an appetizer, and more highly recommend the Key lime pie. The steaks are first rate, and cooked exactly as ordered. I don't use terms like 'swoon' or 'wow me', but you will have an excellent meal, with excellent service at a superior price. Thanks, Kevin
  8. Did anyone go to the Baltimore Greek Festival last weekend? The gyro and moussaka in the church basement was excellent, but there was NO food at the outside tables until 1 pm or so Sunday (it was supposed to start at 11am) and there was almost no one there when we left around 2pmI truly hope there were bigger crowds on Friday or Saturday. Thanks, Kevin
  9. Joe, do you know if any Harris Teeter stores around here sell the Skyline in a can, or frozen? I looked on-line but saw nothing on the Harris Teeter website. Thanks, Kevin
  10. Good experience at the Baltimore Farmer's Market last Sunday. The hilite was the pit beef guy selling sandwiches with your choice of rare through burnt ends for less than $5. A combo of beef and very good sausage was $7 and well worth it, though served on plain white bread. There were two Mexican (I think) guys selling fresh fried little donuts for a dollar a bag (5-7 in a bag, though the sign said 5) or $5 for a big box. Excellent, fresh and hot, with powdered sugar or honey for condiments. Many fruit/vegetable vendors, and the prices were reasonable. There was a stand selling omelets using eggs from the lady selling aggs and taking orders for chickens 2 weeks ahead. I don't think the market is as big as other ones, but the quality seemed high, and it was worth it just for the beef/sausage sandwich and the donuts. Under the JFX (Rt 83 S) at Fayette St. Opens at 8:00, but the pit beef guy starts at 6:00. Thanks, Kevin
  11. I've searched a few of the sketchier stores but so far no luck. Will the Michter's Pikesville taste much different than what I now have, if I ever find it?Thanks, Kevin
  12. I hope it wasn't Il Pinito (the little place on Nicholson Lane between the Pike and Boiling Brook), which I haven't been to in a while but was always very good and many compared it to Il Pizzico. Il Pinito often had a reasonable soft-shell special. Thanks, Kevin
  13. I'll also vote for The Capital Grille Tyson's. Great overall experiance. The Palm serves an excellent steak, and I love the aglio & oleo green beans, but unless you're somebody (i.e. an old congressman with eye candy on your arm) there's a good chance you'll be put at the extremely crowded side tables and that won't be good for privavcy. Thanks, Kevin
  14. There are a few Moe's Southwest Grills in the area and a taco (I like the Full Monty) which comes with a side of tortilla chips (which you can use to ravage the salsa fixin's bar) and a re-fillable fountain drink won't be much more than $5.00, if that. Pretty good food too. Thanks, Kevin
  15. Knob Creek bourbon is my favorite, and especially good when it's on sale for $17.99 @ MoCo stores. Pikesville rye is an excellent bargain, often sold for $7.99 or $8.99. Very underated, and not available everywhere. Thanks, Kevin
  16. Calvert House in Riverdale, Md and the Golden Bull in Adelphi, Md (the one in Rockville/Gaithursburg is probably long in the tooth as well). Thanks, Kevin
  17. The Railroad Inn in Bowie, Md has been around since 1950, and started offering their "famous" pizza in 1961. Thanks, Kevin

    Passover

Passover (like most Jewish holidays) can be summed up easily: They tried to kill us. We won. Let's eat. Seriously though, here are three good sites: http://www.chabad.org/holidays/passover/ http://www.ou.org/chagim/pesach/ http://www.uscj.org/Passover_guide6635.html Thanks, Kevin
  19. Andy Nelson's (which I think has great pulled pork, and pretty good wet ribs) has suspended the Friday night buffet ($14 or so). They said last week it may return this summer. Thanks, Kevin
  20. Did you make it to Crisfield's? Did you have the pan-fried chicken?Haven't had it there for over a year and wonder if it's still as good. Thanks, Kevin

    Passover

Too true Zora I saw for the first time this year 'spelt matzoh'. If spelt is one of the forbidden grains, how the heck can they make spelt matzoh?!?!. Sometimes it's soooo hard to be a Jew, but the pizza and beer tastes especially good the first night after passover. I hope everyone has a great holiday!! Thanks, Kevin
