    I really think the SCOTUS decision on this was a sort of revenge for abortion. The complaint was that there is no right to privacy stated directly in the Constitution, so Roe v Wade "found" a right that just isn't there. In a similar fashion SCOTUS has "found" an individual right to arms where there is none. The Constitution clearly says it's about militias. IMO

    Still highly esteemed by Major League Baseball: The Roberto Clemente Award "The Roberto Clemente Award is given annually to the Major League Baseball (MLB) player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team", as voted on by baseball fans and members of the media. It is named for Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente. Originally known as the Commissioner's Award, it has been presented by the MLB since 1971. In 1973, the award was renamed after Clemente following his death in a plane crash while delivering supplies to victims of the Nicaragua earthquake.[1]

    John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival had some funny pronunciations. I swore he sang Swedish a Hiker (WTF?) when he meant Sweet Hitchhiker. Then there's this: "There's the bathroom on the right." (There's a bad moon on the rise).

    Wanted you to know that the paw paw bread we had last Saturday at Restaurant at Patowmack Farms was just about the best part of the meal! The paw paws were foraged on site. Where do you get yours?

    The first part of the season we did well with our parsley, celery, and salad tomatoes. This year Cherokee Purples were incredible! Rutgers and Celebrity, not so much. I love picking a nice stalk or two of celery rather than buy a bunch with no flavor. There's no comparison with home grown! The San Marzano tomatoes were really abundant this year. They must have liked the weather! And I did really well with chile de arbol. They look like cayenne peppers but they are half as hot on the Scoville scale. Korean cucumbers did well, but we never had more than two at a time ripen together. Kind of hard to give them away under those circumstances. It got too hot right at the wrong time for our green bell peppers. They hardly bore at all. I might try to find a different source for the plants next year. We haven't been successful lately. Too bad. Some years ago we froze our crop and it lasted until the next summer! It's a pleasure to have flavorful bell peppers in the winter time! Not from our garden but the market down the street this year had wonderful corn and canteloupes, but the best of all were the Sugar Baby watermelons! It's the earliest I've ever pulled up most of my plants and started prepping for next year! This season will go down as a strange one!

    Yes, Cooking Up a Storm's used a lot at our house, as is Link's Real Cajun. I never made a good chicken and dumplings until I used his recipe! And his sauce piquante recipes are good too. Unfortunately some of the recipes call for things we can't get. "Start with a sack of crawfish." Yeah, right. "Make yourself a Ponce Bourré à la Teet's Grocery on the Ville Platte Road to Point Blue." Are you fricking kidding? The cookbooks we've used most have been Paul Prudhomme's, especially his family cookbook with recipes from him and his many brothers and sisters. We use it for homey, everyday dishes like fried chicken, meatball stew, rice and gravy, biscuits, cornbread, jambalaya, mayonnaise, potato salad ... They are very detailed recipes and they don't tell you at the last minute "Did you remember to do this THIS a half hour ago?"

    Thoughtful comments! If I may lower the bar here for a moment, I am reluctant to wish Kelly a lot of luck. I kind of feel like his position is comparable to Billy Crystal's helping Robert De Niro in Analyze This. To paraphrase, what's his goal here? A happy, well-adjusted gangster!

    Just me but Kelly scares me as much as G. Gordon Liddy. I don't like talk like the greatest people on Earth are military. Is there a scale or contest?

    Guidry played American Legion ball for a Lafayette, LA team that my brother-in-law competed against, and they were on the then-named USL college team together. I saw him often. The thing I remember most was his curve ball. Far better than anyone he was competing against. Way too much for players at that level. He stayed in the minors for such a long while we thought he might never make it to the bigs. But he kept at it. It was Sparky Lyle who taught him how to throw a slider, which became his greatest pitch along with his fastball. He was a different pitcher by then, stronger and faster. You better believe he made Yankee fans out of a lot of Cajuns! Still to this day. Now that I am up here though I have the Nationals to root for! ETA He was also quite a good fielder, quick and athletic. Doesn't surprise me that he won 5 consecutive Gold Glove awards, 82-86.

    I don't know if that article was meant to scare me but it sure did! He has a real holier than thou attitude about him. Political meddling by legislators? It's their JOB! This guy sounds like he'd be fine with a dictator.

    That was exciting! And the Miami crowd really responded well to Gio. I was in the crowd at Nationals Park when Randy Johnson got his 300th win, and the reaction from the crowd was similar to what we saw last night.

    I can't see leaving any of these players off the All-Time team: Jordan Magic Johnson Bill Russell Wilt Chamberlain Jabbar Bird Oscar Robertson Lebron James And there are probably others I never knew because I fell out of basketball following for a while. I think I go with this: Jordan, Russell, Magic, Wilt, Kareem Too many centers, I know. And the thing is, you could make a good case for this team: Jordan, LeBron, Bird, Magic, Oscar Robertson (no centers)

I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, ..." Chicken and Tasso sauce piquante. Garden Tabasco peppers from the freezer heating it up. This year's celery. Tasso from Balducci's and Ukranian "bacon" from last year's Ukranian Festival at the church on New Hampshire Avenue. Not too shabby!

    We love the Ukranian festival on New Hampshire Ave. every year in mid-September! We have pictures of the very dancers featured in the YouTube video you posted! Near the church end of the grounds they set up a little grocery store and we always get kielbasa etc. Parking on NH Ave. and at the mosque next door. Home made sweets (and Ukranian beer). We always get the church ladies' cabbage rolls and pierogis under the big tent, but I think I used to enjoy them more in past years than lately. The priest is cool. Last year there were some long bearded bishops or something like that from the old country visiting. People were getting their pictures taken with them. Petting zoo for the kids. One reason why New Hampshire Avenue is known as the Highway to Heaven! Count the churches as you go by. If you see a lot for sale you almost hope it's going to go to a church, else it'll fall in Devil's Land!
