  1. Unless you need someone to help monitor the board there is no need. There is no one as fair and trustworthy on this board as you. Your respect for all sides is why this board continues to grow.
  2. I'd bet a dinner at 24 that if you call during the hours listed above when Bonji is there you won't have much trouble. I've also heard that Chef himself answers the phone when he can. You can't say that about a lot of chefs.
  3. I'm pretty sure they don't have the next one planned yet. I was able to score Pate en Croute, Smoked Salmon and Leafy Green Sausage. They were, of course, all fabulous. Other scores were Crunkcakes which were fully loaded with alcohol, a spinach and artichoke dip and a Korean take on bah mihn. It's a great way to spend a Sunday.
  4. I would give them a call to find out. Robyn, who usually knows such information, is out of town.
  5. The following was released today. Note the 32 cent charge each time you park.
  6. Sliced heirloom tomato. Maldon smoked salt. Fresh ground pepper. The perfect late night snack.

    Scotch

We want to go out tonight to drink a scotch, have a bite, and contemplate the world. Bonus points for a place where we won't have to yell to talk. Thoughts on where we should go?
  8. To the Japanese women, whose country needed this win.
  9. Palena had a celery soda on the menu a few weeks ago that was fantastic. Don't know if it is still there though. And Cel-Ray is the only thing that should be drunk with deli. No redheaded goy from Silver Spring would understand.
  10. Does anyone know if there are any decent farmers' markets near Bailey's Crossroads Saturday morning?
  11. It was the grilled meal that wasn't thanks to the magnificent storm. We managed to turn off the grill and get back inside just as the first raindrops fell. Homemade chai made with chai spirited in from India sipped while sitting outside under the safety of the screened-in porch watching the storm Roasted baby artichokes and okra (both locally grown) Pasta with garlic, mint, and rainbow chard picked at the end of the storm Homemade salsa with chips The mint was inspired by Chef Ruta. He's using it with his grilled squash. I think that mint should be used all over the city until it becomes trite. Mint when used as a savory is brilliant Also, I love summer
  12. Blueberry cheesecake pop tart from Ted's Bulletin
  13. Have you reached out to the neighborhood to get their opinion? CHAMPS or local email lists/list serves? There are so many choices on 8th now it's almost overwhelming. Almost. But if you talk to your local neighbors they will tell you what they feel is missing. Emphasis on the neighbors would be a nice change from other local places.
  14. It's hard to find a more perfect spot to spend a Friday night than on Ardeo's balcony. We had an excellent evening including the dangerous disco fries. If you love gravy fries you must try these. The buratta and egg was an interesting and delicious dish. I probably had my last asparagus dish of the season: perfectly grilled with a citrus vinaigrette that had us moping the plate clean with bread. Service was perfect and the drink list deserves more attention than I could give but my companion loved the pineapple rum drink.
  15. Excellent morning at 14th and U. Whisked had great goat cheese and asparagus hand pies-the perfect hung over food while walking around market. There was an abundance of asparagus and strawberries; an hour after market started there was still a lot of fragrant strawberries to choose from. Copper Pot had a first: spinach dip made from spinach from Gardeners. He also finally had meatballs. There is a place for the bigger markets, but there is something to be said for the smaller, less crowded markets that still have everything you are looking for.
  16. Some of the best picnics we have had, going back six years ago to the first one in Montrose Park, were the small ones. People tend to talk more to each other and not break off into groups. Not that the big ones are bad, but the small ones have a special feel to them.
  17. A few years ago he gave a latke making demonstration at 6th and I synagogue. Halfway through his presentation he moved onto applesauce. His fancy version was cherry apple sauce: apples sauce and cherry jello straight out of the Jello box. Anywhere else not a big deal but Jello has gelatin in it, which is not kosher. You don't bring non kosher ingredients into a synagogue, Top Chef or not. The entire audience gasped when he brought it out. MelGold and I left and went to Hell Burger to redeem our souls.
  18. 14th and U reopens this weekend at 9am. There are rumors of new vendors including a new flower producers. Get there early for the good stuff ;-)
  19. Thanks for the link. (Note: In the history of the board Don has never posted a nonfood related event in the forum (and only a few elsewhere). I think that speaks to his belief in the importance of this announcement.)
