  1. In case anyone is interested, here's a nomination form for the 2006 RAMMYS - nominations are due by close-of-business Tuesday. Cheers, Rocks RAMMYS.pdf
  2. The following postings were split off into separate threads: Han Sung Oak (goldenticket) Young's Deli (clchurch) Yee Hwa (porcupine) Woo Lae Oak (cheezepowder) Gom Ba Woo (grover) Arirang (smokey) Woomi Garden (deangold)
  3. [EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS AND GET IT IN YOUR CORTEXES. FROM THIS POINT FORWARD, ANYONE INSERTING A TRIPLE-SPACE WHEN QUOTING A POST WILL BE STABBED. THANK YOU.] [PAY HEED HERE - A GOOD TWENTY PEOPLE DO THIS AND I'M GOING TO BEGIN SENDING ROCKO AND KNUCKLES TO YOUR DOORSTEPS AT 3 AM. WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT? STOP BEING RECALCITRANT AND SPEND TWO MINUTES READING AND LEARNING THIS.] When replying to a post, please remember to do this: instead of this: Thank you, Your mother.
  4. I hate Tanzer because he doesn't have the point scores lined up in a column for quick scanning.
  5. This place is going to suck in no uncertain terms. Remember I said this in two years - today's date is January 15, 2006. Cheers, Rocks
  6. In all seriousness, are you sure it wasn't me you just saw at Greenberry's, looking more-than-a-bit haggard and not-quite-so sexy as Johnny Makes-Us-Moan? Considering I ran into him at yet another restaurant earlier this week, this is becoming troubling...
  7. I always thought Guilt was spelled with a "u." Not sure "stealth" is the proper adjective for these charges, which remind me of the time a B-2 bomber flew inside my intestine.
  8. After eating about four bites of my overcooked lamb shank this evening, I asked for it to go, somehow deluding myself that I'd have it for lunch tomorrow. Then I made the mistake of getting a cheese course for dessert. Any studies relating to the smell and taste of ammonia should begin and end here. And those two "Duval" [sic] beers I ordered? Ten bucks each. As for the rest of my lamb shank, I ended up walking east two blocks and handing it to a homeless person on the Circle. Remember, there are two sides to every trench, Rocks
  9. I'm pretty sure the hottest dish I've ever had was a Lamb Vindaloo at Haandi in Falls Church. If it's spice and not necessarily seven-alarm heat you're after, I'd like to suggest Passage To India in Bethesda. Not only is this the best Indian restaurant in the area, it's one of the best restaurants in the area of any type. Paneers, Wadiyar of MySore.
  10. From the January 13th Reliable Source column in the Washington Post:
  11. I would consider going to Eli's Deli and letting him order whatever he wants. Right after he orders, give him your best collagen-lipped porn-vixen waifish pout, then lean over and whisper softly in his ear, "are you sure you don't want some tongue?" Option B: Go to Cloud Lounge and feed each other hummus on one of the mattresses. Cheers! Dr. Luv
  12. Thanks for urinalysis, but isn't a frank puma an oxymoron, given that a puma is a-lyin'? Tying this into JLK's claim that beets are on the trite food list, has anyone ever called their physician complaining that they had blood in their urine when, in fact, they were merely scaring themselves silly witnessing the symptoms of beet urea, induced by a meal several hours before?
  13. I would have just turned around and said hello, remembering that hydronephrosis can result from interrupting the flow of urine. My advice would be to monitor closely for flank pain over the next 24 hours. That will be twenty dollars. Rocks
  14. Il Mee Buffet is sheer quantity at the expense of quality. I discussed a few Annandale establishments in the second post of this thread (scroll up!). Also, if it's comfort-level (translation: Korean BBQ) and quality you're looking for, I would avoid Sorak Garden and go instead to Annangol or Yechon. Last time I visited Yechon, it was 11:30 PM on a weeknight, and there were 20-30 people there. It's the Bistro Francais of Annandale. If you want to have a warehouse-like atmosphere for your party of 25, you could always try Songbird in Vienna. It isn't particularly good, but it sure is spacious inside - deceptively so. Cheers, Rocks
  15. He did. Their web site speaks in vague generalities, but says nothing about who is running the show these days. Anyone know? Cheers, Rocks
  16. See the reaction of diners showing up for Restaurant Week and told by Nadya that the $30.06 main course will consist of either a chicken breast or Mini-Burghers Roe, Dan.
  17. I just want to say welcome to all our shy little newdles (that's a combination of newbies and noodles). A whole bunch of you have signed up since the holidays wound down, and I want to encourage everyone to post with zest, elan and enthusiasm. We're a community here, and everyone is an equal and vital part. Please don't be shy. Plunge right in. Maybe one day you'll become famous! And even if you don't, you'll still have fun here. Promise! Rocks P.S. Click here if you're still hesitant!
  18. Gerard may not feel comfortable answering this, so let me give it a shot: Gerard's Place is extremely expensive. Main courses can run into the $40s and I believe even $50 for the lobster poached with Sauternes, ginger and lime. Dinner for two can easily be $400 with wine, tax and tip - compare with Le Paradou, Inn at Little Washington, Marcel's, Maestro, 2941, CityZen and Citronelle, none of whom participate. It simply wouldn't be economically feasible for a restaurant at this price point to participate in restaurant week, as seductive as it might sound to us. Sigh...
  19. [Just moved about ten posts from the "Incas Empire" thread into here. Cheers, Rocks]
