  1. We had a nice dinner at Hank's tonight and the consensus was that this will be a great addition to the neighborhood. As you'd expect on opening night, there were some kinks -- they don't get their liquor license until tomorrow which was very disappointing because they had a very nice, and nicely priced, wine list. They weren't serving dessert yet either. I was ready to continue my crustacean crawl and try the lobster roll but they were out of it (until something suspiciously lobster-roll-like was carried by us). I had the smothered pork chops. They weren't smothered but were thick, juicy, and nicely seasoned. The sauteed spinach and garlic had almost no hint of garlic or salt but cooked the doneness I like (wilted but still leafy not mush). The buttermilk onion rings were crispy, light, and not at all greasy. I'd get those again in a heartbeat. I ordered iced tea which originally came to the table opaque. A passing waiter quietly and quickly swapped it for something more tea-like. A later refill was also opaque. This place has real potential and will quickly be packed.
  2. I probably won't be there until closer to 6:30. I don't know who schedules a 5:15 meeting. Grrr.
  3. People keep scheduling meetings that cut into my culinary excurisons. I'm going to have to think of some code to add to my schedule so I can block out that time.
  4. You also have some big free trade types on Senate Commerce.
  5. I'm up for that [Moved from Hank's Oyster Bar thread]
  6. Chicken with a wine-sundried tomato sauce, brown rice, and roast asparagus.
  7. There can't possibly be too many ventworm cakes. I suppose you could always make the nuts.
  8. hillvalley and I will be meeting up at the Circle Bistro this evening around 6:15-6:30 if anyone wants to join us.
  9. Clams and mussels are non-starters. Probably oysters too. Scallops I'd have to think about. Maybe diver scallops.
  10. Isn't that a bivalve thing? I have probably dissected a few too many of those to eat them. But...it is mere steps from my office...
  11. Sonoma has sent preview invites to those who signed up on their website and the menu looks great. Five courses with 2-3 choices per at $25 and two wine choices at $4/glass or $14/bottle. They are running 2 seatings a night tonight, tomorrow and Sunday and are asking you to submit 2 preferences for seatings for up to 6 people. I would be interested in either Sunday, May 15 times of 6pm or 7pm if 5 of you want in on this. PM me if interested until 4:30 today.

  13. Chef Tom ripped the ass off a crab for me! I feel so special (don't ruin it by telling me he'd do it for anyone who ordered the dish). I'm on a kick to resolve a character flaw and reacquire my test for at least some seafood. I'm starting with crustaceans. The kind folks at Corduroy helped me sea all that is good with crab with this dish. Lightly crispy without being greasy and well matched with barely wilted greens and ver jus to round it out. I'm still a little iffy about eating these critters but I would certainly order this dish again.
  14. Grrr...the crisis du jour at work is probably going to keep me from making the happy hour.
  15. Corduroy got a few new converts from my office last night (the lamb sirloin with goat cheese ravioli and the tuna with hajiki won them over). I had the wagyu steak because I had to see if now knowing there was no pork fat involved if my brain would kill the pork flavor cues. It was definitely less pronounced but still rich, nutty, and wonderfully flavorful. As always, the staff graciously accommodated our motley bunch who swept in and took over their lounge. There were whisperings of needing to go there more instead of the lesser places closer to the office. I could definitely get behind that. For those looking to enjoy the start of softshell crab season, they're showcasing them here.
  16. vertebrates are overrated...enjoy clamdom
  17. I'm a fan of the Mexican Chocolate at Max's in Glover Park. Great summer afternoon-- Rockland's pulled pork sandwich and a cone from Max's. My first taste of Icy Icee (or whatever it is) was fantastic but two subsequent trips were bland, bland, bland.
  18. As a public service, I looked this up and discovered a very disturbing factoid that might make us rethink the ventworm thing --- THEY HAVE NO MOUTH OR DIGESTIVE TRACT. The thought makes me shudder. Male pogonophorans do however have two gonads.
  19. I'll be having my Friday happy hour in the Florida Keys!
  20. Perhaps we need to set up a poll to decide who wears the chaps.
  21. You'll hear no complaints from me if the menu for the picnic turns out to be brownie, brownie, smoked pork, brownie, lamb sausage, brownie, brownie and maybe some fruit.
  22. I've been far fewer times then I should. That should count for something .
