  1. I didn't realize that the shindig was happening now. For some reason I thought it was next spring. Obviously he's not touring now but maybe he's got some other commitment.
  2. I don't think that's it. He's won at least one Grammy and attended the (TV) show and gave a (wonderful and weird) speech. When he won an Oscar for the song Things Have Changed, he was on tour and appeared on the broadcast taped from Australia and he displayed the trophy on stage for over a year. Again, for over a year (maybe two) he had his Oscar trophy standing on stage with him. I don't think he's too cool to attend........maybe 50 years ago, but not now. Don - I was at the second Wolf Trap show. It wasn't one of my all time favorites, but I'll see Bob whenever he comes close to town. He played almost nothing from 2000 or prior.....maybe 2 or 3 songs. It was nearly all new material, including a handful of old American standard tunes from his last two albums of cover songs. All were very slow., 1930's and 40's crooner tunes. If weren't an obsessed fan, I imagine you were pretty lost and bored with most of the show. Like I said, it wasn't one of my top 10 shows, but I'll see him when he comes through again because he's blown me away many times when I've thought his best performances were behind him.
  3. What is the Patti Smith stumble/humility/picking herself back up thing that you mention? As far as him missing the ceremony, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a conflict due to his touring schedule. Below is his 2016 schedule. He's not exactly taking it easy. 4/4/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/5/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/6/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/9/16 Miyagi, Japan - Tokyo Electron Hall Miyagi details set list 4/11/16 Osaka, Japan - Festival Hall details set list 4/12/16 Osaka, Japan - Festival Hall details set list review 4/13/16 Osaka, Japan - Festival Hall details set list 4/15/16 Nagoya, Japan - Century Hall details set list 4/18/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/19/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/21/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/22/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/23/16 Tokyo, Japan - Tokyo Dome City Hall details set list 4/25/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/26/16 Tokyo, Japan - Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Shibuya details set list 4/28/16 Yokohama, Japan - Pacifico details set list review 6/4/16 Woodinville, Washington - Chateau Ste. 4. Well, Metier which has been open since April only has 33 reviews. I'm not disagreeing with anything anyone has hypnotized, but just saying a lack of Yelp reviews doesn't necessarirly mean low quality or a bad experience
  5. I hear you, but by your thinking the "internet" is "communication". A million years ago it was grunts and drawings on the wall of a cave. Then it was smoke signals. Then it was the printing press. Then the telegraph, then the telephone, then TV, then cable TV, then it was dial up, then it was ethernet, then it was 3G, 4G, 17G....
  6. I wish he'd comment more on the (low) lighting levels, which I find much more annoying than the volume problem. What's the point of serving beautiful food if you need a flashlight to see it?!?!?!?
  7. I'm not sure if this is sarcastic, facetious, or honest, but if you paid any attention* to the presidential campaign for the past 18 months you'd know this kind of thing was alive and well and emboldened. They always existed and they weren't in hiding, but only lately have them come out into the light * I'm not talking about the networks, cable news and the newspapers. You wouldn't have found it there, just as you barely see it there now. I don't even know if this story made the national news
  8. My wife and I had a very nice meal here 2 saturday's ago. It's more modern than the Ashby Inn, yet also more rustic. The building is very old and has a bit of an Ashby vibe, but the wall art, furnishings, plates, and just about everything else is more modern. The food, on the other hand, is not as gourmet and refined, as Ashby. It's a little more "country rustic" whatever that means. The menu has three categories - - Appetizers, Mains and Sides and it's ala carte. Some of the "appetizers" are appetizers (Buffalo--style crispy pig's ears with blue cheese and hot sauce) but others make a nice companion to one of the main dishes ( Sauteed Brussels Sprouts with White Wine, Yuzu, Parmesan & Truffle Oil). You sort of build your own menu by ordering an app or two for an appetizer and fill it out with a main or two and an "appetizer" or a side to go along with it. My wife and I split the 16 oz Black Angus Ribeye with Foie Gras sauce ($49) and had the Brussels Sprouts from the Apps menu and the Crispy Potatoes and garlic for the dinner portion of the meal and we started with the Buffalo (wings) Pig Ears and Seared Scallops for apps. All were very good and we were too stuffed to get any desserts. The wine choices are both interesting and affordable. There's a big portion of the wine list devoted to Virginia wine (left side) and then there's a more traditional wine list, but (to me) the most interesting part is the 3 wines on tap......a red, a white and a rose', all from Early Mountain Vineyards in VA. It's $7 for a glass (nice pours), $19 for 500 ml and $24 (?? can't remember) for 1000 ml. We started with a glass of rose' which was wonderful and then moved on to 500 ml of white, which was also wonderful. We intended to have a glass of red with the meat, but the white lasted too long (not a bad problem to have). If you go with the wines on tap, it's a VERY affordable way to drink local and still drink well. Neil, of course, is a fantastic host and master of hospitality, and makes you feel like royalty when you're there. If our current president elect is reading this, your best move would be to hire Neil for remedial graciousness and politeness lessons! A word to the wise about traveling in small town VA: The cops out there like to pull a move that is, at best, barely legal, but really, probably illegal. They set up roadblocks where they are "checking to see if you have a driver's license", but I'm pretty sure it's a way to stop every car on the road and check to see if you've been drinking. I was a victim of one of these road blocks on a random saturday afternoon in Linden, and friends of ours got nabbed on a random Wednesday night in Marshall. Who knew there were so many people driving without a license!?!?!? So just be careful out there, the 4th Amendment ain't what it used to be. PS - I forgot to mention that they have a small bar room in the back which has it's own, separate menu. Not sure what's on it, but we did see a very fat hamburger making it's way back there. This looks like a nice place to pop in for a quick drink if you're in the area.
  9. I like the idea of having the real ending time 15 or so minutes after the official ending time. The good will generated by "doing you a favor" would probably pay huge dividends in the long run for everyone involved.
  10. I "liked" your post partly because you had my back, but mostly for the Lebowski quote. Regarding the price of chicken in this town, back when the Kinship dust up was happening, I remember seeing a half chicken at a very meh place for 25 bucks. I can't remember the place and I didn't order it, but I guarantee that the 6 dollar savings vs Kinship wouldn't have been worth the difference in quality.
  11. Good God, take a moment from clutching your collective pearls and think about the Kinship roast chicken. Everyone freaked out that it was $56 and many meltdowns ensued. Then people actually tried the thing and the raves started rolling in. I was simply asking if anyone tried it. And Simul, it's been a couple weeks, don't you have a plane to catch to Bora Bora or some place?
  12. Has anyone ever tried the Fried Chicken Meal here? From the website: The Fried Chicken Meal includes two whole fried chickens, one southern style and one Korean style, and it comes with moo shu pancakes, a bounty bowl, ginger scallion sauce, hoisin sauce, and jalapeño garlic sauces. Guests are encouraged to eat as they please, from making wraps with the pancakes to eating the chicken straight-up. The southern style chicken is fried with a buttermilk and old bay batter. The Korean style chicken is triple fried and served with a light spicy glaze. $135 for your entire party, not including other food and drinks ordered, tax and tip. Somehow, the idea came up to take my daughter here for her birthday and I'm wondering if it's worth it or even anything special.
  13. NO! Keep 'em coming!! You were probably at the legendary 2-13-17 show at the Fillmore East. Some people consider the Dark Star that night to be the greatest version the Dead ever played. Not me. I consider it to be the greatest piece of music ever performed by anyone! Let me know if you need a copy.
  14. Nowadays, the fees alone on the tickets would quadruple or quintuple (or whatever comes next) that amount. I saw the Grateful Dead 107 times and the Jerry Garcia Band something like 15 times. Good times for sure!

The tape that includes the fragment of Last Lonely Eagle and Honky Tonk Women is Wolfson's; the other master apparently lacks these tunes. Copies of the second master often have Me And My Uncle moved to before Good Lovin' but the order given here is correct. 16. Yeah, I'd love to see it too! Semi related: Years ago Rasika had Butternut Squash Bharta on the menu, but sadly it has disappeared. I found this recipe on line somewhere a while back and it's fantastic. I could eat this every day! BUTTERNUT SQUASH BHARTA Butternut Squash 1 Each (2-3 Lb) Oil 1 Tablespoon Cumin Seeds 1 Teaspoon Onion Chopped 1 Cup Tomato Chopped 1 Cup Ginger Chopped 1 Tablespoon Garlic Chopped 1 Tablespoon Green Chili Chopped 2 Each Turmeric Powder 1 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder 1 Teaspoon Cilantro Chopped 1 Tablespoon Juice of Lemon 1 Teaspoon Salt To Taste PREPARATION Preheat oven to 350F. Cut the butternut squash into 2 pieces, lengthwise. Remove the seeds from inside. Take a baking sheet / dish and add 1/4 inch water. Place the squash cut sides down and bake for around an hour till the squash is fork soft. Cool and remove the skin and coarsely mash. Heat oil in a skillet. When hot, put cumin let them crackle. Add garlic & fry till golden color. Add ginger & green chili. Fry for a minute. Add chili powder & turmeric powder & tomato. Cook on slow fire till tomatoes get mushy & oil starts oozing out. Add squash & cook till it gets mashed, stirring continuously. Add salt, lemon juice & cilantro. Check for the seasoning & serve hot.
  17. This is might be too late for you but here's a recipe from "Power Vegetables", from the Lucky Peach magazine folks. I've never made it so I can't comment on it
  18. Can we get a link? I googled "Zojirushi coffee cups" and came with a metal to-go cup with a push-to-drink button. I'm assuming you're talking about something else because pushing a button to get a sip is certainly not an improvement to a standard coffee mug where you just sip.
