  1. If you are going to Weg's to buy your dogs, get Zweigel's. Red AND white. Really, there are no better hotdogs.
  2. Ris. The variety will satisfy both of them, the cooking is great, the service is good, and they handle RW well.
  3. Are they thin or thick?
  4. So, nobody has defined a great onion ring yet. I love onion rings. Hot, battered, and VERY thin. I haven't had a good onion ring in DC since the New Orleans Cafe on Columbia Road closed.
  5. When they have it at Cashion's, it is outstanding.
  6. It is a bit hoppy. I love, love, love, the porter though. Apparently it's limited time and only on draft. This makes me sad. I want a lot more of this, and I want it to be available to drink at home.
  7. The business association there calls itself Midcity. And Midcity was the name for Shaw (the larger area, not the current smaller definition) before the neighborhood renamed itself for the school.
  8. OK, I made an expedition over to 6th Street today. The buns are fine, not great. The almond cookies are too big, but taste right. Thanks!
  9. Huh, I think it's running $6 at Meridian Pint.
  10. The bun-bread kind with the roast pork inside. Thanks for the ideas. I will report back once I have tried them.
  11. That's what I'm afraid of. I like the buns at Hollywood East a lot, but want them for a work lunch, downtown, NOW! Maybe some day a nice food truck will sell buns, and dumplings, and things like that.
  12. Today at lunch I was overcome by a craving for baked pork buns. I had no idea where to find them any more. I work near metro center, and will walk for food. Any thoughts? (Also, if almond cookies were there too, that would be great.)
  13. It grates on me because people on cell phones are generally louder than people on landlines or people talking to each other.
  14. I LOVE the mini-doughnuts that are sometimes (Sundays for sure) at the flea market at Eastern Market. They have a doughnut machine like in that kid's book (Henry Huggins?), and they make them RIGHT then. I miss very little about western NY, but the fresh doughnuts at the orchards are right up there. I also used to like the doughnuts you could get at Amernick, but with them not being ready until 11 or later, I rarely got them. Hellers are pretty good.
  15. My Czech friends drink it with tonic. It's good that way too.
  16. Fried mushrooms? Where is this place?
  17. It's behind the scoreboard - go up the escalators to the "Scoreboard Walk."
  18. Those are so good. I love steak, especially there, but those ribs make ordering difficult, because they are so much better than any others I've had in a long time.
  19. Nah, not a scotch drinker, and I haven't seen years on Irish Whiskey. Would be a good idea for the scotch drinker in the house though. Then again, he was born in 64, so could have wine.
  20. Wow. So this sound like I, another one born in 65, should perhaps decide that I'm never getting a birth year wine. I could move on to graduation wine, wedding date wine, stuff like that. Perhaps I should?
  21. I would disagree, strongly. It is indeed dog and kid friendly. The wine, well... The wine made there was pretty meh, and the wine from other places was ok, but was from other places. It was crowded, and people kept jabbing me with their elbows and then getting annoyed that I was simply there, and, and, and... we all really disliked the place.
  22. I would be willing to be that Kera was your waitress (as far as I know, she is currently the only Asian woman working there). If that is the case, not only does she cook and serve, she owns the place.
  23. Heller's had them yesterday. (Didn't buy, so don't know how good they are. The pecan twist was good though.)
