  1. So, we'll be in Chicago m-f of Thanksgiving week. I have many thoughts on food, but am not certain where we should go for Thanksgiving dinner. We are 3 people. One wants a traditional meal, one does NOT want a traditional meal, and the third could go either way. Thoughts?
  2. I have had excellent cocktails at the bar at Herbsaint. Plus, the food is really good.
  3. We were there on Monday. After getting over the confusion of having to read the menu to decide what to have for dinner, we were quite pleased with the food. One had the bistro special, one had ribs, one had steak frites. Oh, we also tried the creamed corn (SOOOOOO good) and the onion rings (quite tasty, perfect batter, cut a little thicker than I like). Much wine (etc) was consumed. The general consensus was that the food remains stellar, the new options are tasty, and Eliot is an excellent bartender.
  4. I have been to De Lorezo's, but not Papa's. The attachment says that De Lorenzo's is the classic, in his mind (He grew up in PA, just over from Trenton.) It was very good. Tasty crust, good toppings, NOT SOGGY! (I hate soggy.) I was surprised to find that it was a BYO alcoholic drinks place. Luckily, we had a case of wine in the car, so we had some with us. They also had birch beer - my favorite.
  5. Indeed, it's pretty amazing the way that the commenters discussed, or rather, failed to discuss, the elephant in the room. Also, non-ironic use of the term "ghetto."
  6. They usually will - I get LARGE amounts of fruit from Emily, at Black Rock Orchard for canning projects. She'll do pre-orders and decent bulk prices.
  7. I like the nachos at Mixtec a lot. Chips with real cheese, whatever meat you get, black beans, salad, and guacamole.
  8. Oooh, that chain of discussion made me SO mad. Honestly, it makes a difference where something is. Why is everyone there, including Professor Cowen, refusing to acknowledge that?
  9. Huh, I slice right off a frozen log of cookie dough.
  10. For me, there are 2. Is the food good? Is my money going to support things that I find abhorrent?
  11. I have bought them at Penzey's. I think I have also seen them at Yes!.
  12. Or perhaps the chatter is sick to death of the picking, and tolerates from his friends because they have other redeeming qualities. Being teased by a waiter who you do not know is a bit beyond.
  13. I always use wax paper. Works well.
  14. They certainly are. I got 2 boxes yesterday and spent today turning them into a nice basic pasta sauce. There's a lot ofit too.
  15. I am not a home brewer, but I live with one and help out. We bottle - haven't ever tried kegging, but keep thinking about it.
  16. I remember that place. Yes, that's where it was. Both of us here remember it as being next to the Roy Rogers (GW 87 and GW 88), but can't remember the name. Sadly, that building is gone, so I can't even look at it on google street view to jog our memories.

I, on the other hand, hope people can learn to live without, or with less, a/c, as I strongly believe it is contributing to global warming.

    Tasty Travails

Well, at lunch today, I almost froze to death in Haad Thai. And Queen of Sheba was pretty cold a few weeks ago. In general, I believe a/c is seriously overused and really, nobody needs to be 65 degrees inside when it is 80+ outside.

    Tasty Travails

Far too often, it is too cold for me in restaurants - They do seem to love to set the a/c on arctic.
  20. So, I need to get whole lot of tomatoes, as we intend to make and can spaghetti sauce this year. Do you all have any thoughts on which farm I ought to talk to about decent prices on a large quantity of sauce-type tomatoes?
