  1. I'm not sure. And I swear that once I ended up at the intersection of Glebe and Glebe.
  2. See, every time I go to Virginia, this happens. Then I end up on Glebe Road. Then I get hopelessly lost, and have to call someone for directions home.
  3. Thank you. Nor will I - I'm not even sure where to find one! (Live in the city, tend to eat in the city, know I've seen one somewhere, but not anywhere along my regular routes.)
  4. OK, how does one figure out what that is? (Before one agrees to do something stupid.)
  5. OK, I've only been here since 1983. But once I got off campus, I started meeting a lot of people who differentiated between Washington and DC. Most of them were black, and most of them were either natives or long long long time residents. DC = the local city. Washington = Governmentland on the Potomac. Oh, and look at the punkers of the 80s - the DC flag was a BIG symbol of local pride for the HarDCore folks.
  6. Thanks! I was out in the neighborhood today, and got a bottle at D'Vines on 14th Street. Had to ask for it, as it was not on display, and was told they were only selling one per customer.
  7. Oh, my co-cook and good friend insisted on doing that 2 years ago. It was indeed awful. One person loved it. He got a LOT of leftovers.
  8. Now we are curious here. Where can we find this?
  9. I love taquitos. OK, I have never had a 711 taquito. However, if I have leftover pot roast or roast chicken, I make taquitos and guacamole and have a feast.
  10. I've been pleased with what I've ordered from these folks: http://www.beanilla.com/
  11. They are indeed - I have purchased both meat platters and cookie platter from Litteri for various events and they have always gone over very well.
  12. I admit, this is neither at Ray's, nor is it ice cream. Have you tried the bacon maple creme brulee at Smoke and Barrel?
  13. Oooh, thank you, Off to see if they take reservations.
  14. So it appears that I will be in Charlottesville for a night later this week. We've been thinking about trying one of the formerly Peter Chang Chinese places. Any advice on this? One good, one better, don't bother any longer? Thanks!
  15. OK, both places I like a lot (as evidence, see above.) Now that these are moved, you can see that I am a big Domku fan, and spend a lot of time there. I also like Moroni. I just don't know if they count as hip. Oh, and the pool is long gone.
  16. No. We have no hip places in Petworth. None. Or at least, none that I have succeeded in finding yet. Advice gladly accepted. In the mean time, Quarry House is a nice place, although all I have ever had there is burgers and beer. It was a haven from the hordes of film-goers looking to eat during SilverDocs!
  17. Also know in this house as Dr Henry and Mr Hyde. Or, "Is it good Henry or Bad Henry tonight?" (Hit the bull mascot! That's what we always say when he walks on. Have we watched Bull Durham too many times?) Seriously, that was a heck of an inning. And to stay on topic - last Sunday I was at the ballpark early, so I tried a Shake Shack burger for the first time. It was, well, ok. The sauce was fine. The burger was not a hockey puck. The bun was a bit greasy. I would eat one again, and it was better than average ballpark food, but I would never stand in that line for one. There was great disagreement about the shakes at the table though. I loved the black and white shake. Tasted like a hot fudge sundae, which is my favorite thing in the universe. Or so I thought. Everyone else thought it was too sweet, and not chocolately enough.
  18. Well, if they are my cats, they can sense who is not enthralled with them, and will gravitate to that person.
  19. I got 50 pounds. Tomato soup in the canner right now, to be followed by chopped tomatoes, to be followed by tomato jam.
  20. I just had a pizza from the Pi truck, and it is very very good. I also really like the pizza at Moroni still, as well as Pete's (Columbia Heights). Red Rocks (11th St) is off the list, for a series of screw-ups and soggy pizza, culminating in bringing the wrong pizza to one of our party twice last time we were there with no apology until we made a stink, and VERY poor service throughout the experience.
