  1. Is it certain that Farrah-Olivia is extending their restaurant week?
  2. BrettAshley, I also welcome you to DR.com. I was once you. I have never been severely overweight in my life. But life does happen, babies, sadness, happiness, age, they all affect your weight. When you have been around the block once or twice you will know what I am talking about. I am struggling with 15lbs at the moment, in the old days, I could lose it in a month and keep it off for years. It ain't true anymore. Just thought I would share a little of my insight with you. Hope to meet you soon, Raisa
  3. Wow, between the Rockwell Hardness and the Banana Bunker, this has gone downhill. I am sorry I helped.
  4. Does anyone have a reservation to Farah Olivia that they will not be using on Friday or Saturday? PM me please.
  5. Have you tried Stoltzfus Meats at the Germantown Amish Market? There is also another Amish butcher at the Annapolis location. If they don't have it, maybe they can bring some back for you when they come back in the morning? It's worth a try.
  6. Gainesville Virginia It would probably only be feasible for Fairfax, Prince William and Loudoun area members.
  7. We have a Korean butcher that sells just about everything. Maybe one of the Korean fluent members of our board knows how to ask for Pork Cheeks? And how about Beef Cheeks. I went last night to buy short ribs and hangar steak. I had to demonstrate the American way I wanted short ribs, but they are pretty.
  8. Does anyone want a sous vide water bath? PM me if you do, you must pick up....
  9. I am in France at the moment. I just had dinner at a new restaurant named Spring. It is run by a young American named Chris. Seats 16 covers. It has been open 7 weeks. So far it has been reviewed by Figaro 3 hearts, a couple of other local publications, and Michelin is actually including it in it's guide next year. Yesterday it was voted the most improbale restaurant to make it this past year. Pretty premature but still pretty neat for this young guy. We had four couses tonight, 26 euros, Cauliflower soup with Pigeon and Balsamic Reduction, Calamari with a Radish and Pepper Olive Oil Relish, Pork Confit with Oyster Mushrooms and a Chard Cream Sauce which alludes me. The dessert was a Chocalate Tart sans Tart with Carameled Pecans and a Mango Coulis with Fresh Mango. It was all honestly very simple, but the quality of the ingredients spoke for themselves. It was honestly one of hte best meals I have had here in a long time. The simplicity and the honesty of the ingredients blew you away. This young man is on a roll. I wish him the best. If you make it here, reserve in advance, you will not be dissapointed.
  10. Jacques, Chef prepared your venison just perfect! Wow! Was that fig preserves on top? Of everything I ate yesterday that is what stands out in my mind. So very incredible!
  11. Honestly, they were the best fries I have ever had. I ate all the leftover fries at our table and left my hanger steak! (oink, oink) But the service was a bit arrogant and I would not expect that even in France! The company was fabulous though! Thank you all for a wonderful eveining!
  12. That menu sounds great! So it is more of a nuevo Latino flavor? How about desserts? A new take on Tres Leches, Flan, Crema Catalana? And last, how's the wine list coming along? Buena Suerte!
  13. I just got back from Miami yesterday, stayed in Gables. If you want Cuban food, try Havana Harry. It is right on Lejeune across from the Merrick Center. I also like Las Culebrinas in Coconut Grove. If you want really cheap Cuban Fritas (Cuban hamburger made with chorizo), try El Rey de las Fritas. Various locations throughout Miami.
  14. I am married to one of these peanut allergy kids, well he is kind of old now... He is allergic to any kind of legume (peanuts are legumes). As a child he would have to be careful on opening the pots in his mother's kitchen as even the steam from beans would make his face and eyes swell up. His allergies have lessened as he has gotten older. His reaction is not quite as severe.
  15. Good advice from Don. I would venture that anyone who eats out almost every night and still stays in shape, also works out more vigourously than he eats. As for JoeH, he is out of town, but I know that he walks at least 4-5 miles everyday, rain or shine, heat or freeze. I am sure he will expand more on this when he reads this thread. As for me, if I want to eat, I have to work out at least 90 minutes everyday. The older I get, the harder it gets. This past year I have let myself go, and now I am paying for it....but even though it is hell at times, the saying that nothing tastes as good as thin feels, has some merit to it.
  16. Does anyone know why you are supposed to flip it seam side up when you throw it in the pot? Reason I ask, I just reread the recipe after I threw mine in the pot and guess what I forgot to do!
  17. I was in California a few days ago and strawberries are definately in season. I doubt very much that the strawberries we get here in March and April are from this area either.
  18. My son's birthday dinner request last week was spicy Asian. So after a search of Don's dining guide we decided to give Sichuan Village a try. I am glad we did. If anyone misses Peter Chang's food, they should give this place a try. They have the exact same cld spicy beef salad and it is every bit as delicious. We also had the Street wontons which were filled with a gingered chicken and draped with a spicy Sichuan Sauce. The salt and pepper shrimp was also delicious, but you must be a fan of eating shrimp with their shells on. Beef with Cumin and HOt Sauce was also very well done, appropriately spicy, but not enough to make you cough. Chengdu Beef was also very good, this is a spicy stew like dish. Their online menu is smaller than their menu at the restaurant. Anyone craving a good Sichuan fix should give this place a try.
  19. We went to Bebo's for their 1st brunch service. Brunch is served family style with everyone at the table having the same dishes. You may choose the antipasti, pasti, carni or dolci courses. Any combination or all or just one. Our antipasti yesterday included, Marinara Fried eggs, Fried Zuchinni, Marinated Cauliflower w/Capers, and Marinated Eggplant with Red Onions. Carni included Meatballs with Marinara atop Polenta, Roast Pork with Broccoli Rabe, and Balsamic Garlic Chicken Wings. Dolci was a Yogurt Gelato, and incredible Chocolate Pannacota? with a Creme Anglaise, and a Tiramisu that was perfect. In fact we commented that it wasn't overdone with espresso as others seem to be. You must have gotten it all HV! I took Dons' wine reccomendation and ordered the Barolo. There was not a dud in the bunch! Service was great, but it was also fairly empty yesterday at 2PM. I imagine that will change when people find out it is open for brunch.
  20. Yes there is one in Falls Church on Graham Road (or is it Annandale at this point?) and one in Springfield. The Falls Church one is open 24 hours Mon thru Sat and until late on Sunday. I have been going there for about 15 year.
  21. Yes those are the ones they carry at all the stores, but you REALLY have to go see their new cheese case at Pentagon City. It is much better than anything I have seen available this area.
  22. Has anyone been to the Costco at Pentagon City? You would not believe their cheese selection. In addtion to their normal cheeses they are now carrying "Artisinal" cheses from France, Italy and Spain. It is in a separate cooler in the same row as the wines close to the frozen items. I bought some brie, and two others (I am not at home so I don't have the names), that are incredible. Their prices are similar to what you would pay in Europe and you don't have to buy 10lbs to get the deal! (Normal sizes) I just hope this isn't a seasonal thing!
  23. I may have placed those on the table with all the paper products. If an acrylic wine glass shows up...lemme know.
  24. Joe, are they open to the not general public? I saw people in there as I left DCA last night.
