  1. I think Kinkead's is more consistant than Colvin's. I also received a certificate as a present, I didn't know I could use it at Kinkead's! Thanks for the info.
  2. You go Michael! Even though we have all know that you have always given back, maybe this will raise community awareness. For my husband and I, we consider it our duty to give back a percentage of what has been given to us. If every business and individual would give back even a miniscule amount like 1% of your net, (or gross), what a differance it would make. I like the way your mind works. (that is scary )
  3. God Bless You for eating that. I am going to have to give it a try at Eve. All I can remember is my moms "Brain Fritters" as we called them, and having to douse them in hot sauce and ketchup to try to forget what they were. You would of thought I would have gotten over that by now. Was this served in the bistro or the tasting room? I am serious about trying them again, it is kind of like getting back on a horse....(I am doing that on Tuesday! Maybe I will do the brain afterwards!)
  4. That is something to look forward to. The restaurant scene here has been pretty quiet as of late. (Chick-fil-A being the most talked about on here .)A chef with a great reputation and great looks to boot! I can't wait! I would love to sit at his table.
  5. As a female, even though the food is good, I would not find Peter's Inn terribly romantic. Cracker's suggestion up above is about right if you don't want to go full out with Charleston.
  6. Mike that list is for the 1st meeting correct? I would like to attend the second meeting on the 13th. I just ordered the book. Does Don have a DonRockwell link so he can receive credit?
  7. Hey, it was cooked for a long period. So any germs were gone. It weirds me out too,(the hair), but not the cat. In Troyes France, I watched an older gentleman as he ate his lunch alongside his dog and his wife. He would take a bite and then he would offer the dog a bite off the same fork. I asked him if I could give the dog some of my Troyes Sausage (andouillette?) which I found gross. He replied yes but only a bit as he had a delicate system. (the dog). (He was feeding it some sort of bean stew).
  8. I haven't been in years, but there is a small Italian in South Philly which I have loved every time I have been (3) called Criniti's. The first time I went the owner had only been living here from Sicily about 5 years. It is (was) true Southern Italian Nana cooking. Apparently they have moved into an old church since I last went but here is one link. Thay have received some pretty awesome reviews on the net so do a search also.
  9. Pizza being the only factor, I think Paradiso wins hands down. 2Amy's has been experimenting way too much, we have had soggy crusts more often than not. The first time I went, Amy's was great, but then again I only ordered their DOC Margharita. 2Amy's does have some excellent tapas and an exceptionally well priced winelist though. But on pizza. Paradiso for me.
  10. Another bonus of eating at the bar is you don't feel quite as hurried. I felt they were anxious to turn the tables last time I was there on a Saturday night. Understandibly so, but we were in and out of there in under an hour. I don't expect fine dining at a trattoria, but the speed that night was more reminiscent of fastfood, even though the food wasn't.
  11. I have been to 2 Amys a few times in the past 12 months, but today in Georgetown I tried Paradiso again. It had been awhile. All I can say is that 2 Amy's may be good but Paradiso is the Bomb! The pizza dough/crust was incredible. It was crispy/crusty on the outside but chewy in the middle. Yet it was thin enough under the toppings so as to not overpower them. I am not one to take notes on what I eat, but my pizza today was the special which had roasted peppers, roasted shallots, ham, and some kind of funky cheese. It was such a perfect marriage. My son had the margharita and even though the tomatoes may have been canned, it still tasted fresh. I usually don't eat the pizza edge but let's just say today they were wonderful for sopping up olive oil! Enter my vote for Paradiso in the Paradiso/2 Amy's debate!
  12. The name of the company is FoKitchen Concepts, but apparently this is pseudonym for Farrah Olivia itself. They advertise on the restaurant website as a "separate company" of sorts.FOKitchen Concepts My apologies to the chef, I am sure he is capable of much greater things than I experienced.
  13. A few of us went to Farrah Olivia this past Friday. Yes, they still have the RW menu.but not! Most items seemed to have an up charge! I originally thought I wouldn't go that route, but since nothing appealed to me I chose the scallops which had an $8 up charge. They were seared with a slight bit of peanut sauce on top. It also included powdered peanuts and sodium bicarbonate!? on the side. I should have taken that as a sign. My next course was the cream of parmesan soup. There was nothing distinguishable about this soup, not even the nice tang of parmesan. My husband had the deconstructed Caesar salad. It was a sourdough flan, accompanied by a few romaine leaves, a canned tasting sardine, and a dehydrated anchovy crumble. The powder tasted of freezer burn! It was simply awful. Apparently this is what the bicarbonate was for! I followed this with a salmon roll. At this point I cannot tell you what was in it as it was indistinguishable. The fish tasted fishy and was overcooked! My husband had the quail which was also overcooked, but I liked the chorizo stuffing and sauces. It may have been too many tastes for one plate though. At this point I was still hungry so I ordered the lemon tart dessert even though I had only ordered the three course menu. It was actually a lemon pannacotta which was surprisingly light and tangy. I was only charged $7 for the dessert, so the RW 40.07 menu for 4 courses was no deal! As a side note, the waiter told us not to order the wine tasting as you only got 3 2-oz pours for $15 and certainly not worth it. There were comments at the table that this restaurant will probably not be around too long. It tries to be precious and cutting edge but comes out boring and flat. Maybe the chef should stick to food he is good at and not something conceived by a marketing group?
  14. Which Saint John's Heather. Smithfield or Spitifield? I went back in July to the bigger one, I will have to look on a map to see which one it was. By London standards it is good, but by ours "not so much". (Borat) (BTW, you can make reservations on OpenTable London) My dream restaurant is French Laundry. I also would love to go back to the Boqueria. That place is fun!
  15. I was there tonight! That sounds good. Do you have a date in mind?
  16. I would like the Etete, but can it be tentative? I am pretty sure I can be off that day but you never know. Actually put me down (tentatively) for BCC and Los Tios too, it's been awhile since we have had such variety!
  17. It is just the cost of doing business. There are credit card processors that charge between 2.5 and 7%. Hopefully they have been wise enough to look for the lower rates. I also would never carry cash around. As mentioned above it helps not hurts an establishment for the consumer to be able to pay by credit as it doesn't seem to hurt as much!
  18. PIQUILLO PEPPERS! Help! Where can I find a jar of these locally? I have been to quiter a few grocery stores including Whole Foods, can anyone help?
  19. Exactly his point. He has eaten Korean food before and he was explaining to his readers what you do. Maybe I am missing something here? Why would this article offend you? Should he take an Italian, Indian, Ethiopian, Cuban, etc, everytime he eats at an ethnic restaurant? Most people are not foodies, they appreciate his knowledge, however flawed it may be.
  20. The first time I went to a Korean restaurant they explained everything to me. They still do! It is just courtesy, customer service and pride in their dishes. Tom is doing the same thing here! The majority of people in this area have never eaten Korean food. Different circles you know. I would be very happy as a (insert nationality here) that Tom gave a good review and took time to educate the public of my national cuisine.
  21. You are not going to like what I say. It is one of those places where you go to be seen. When I went it was loud and obnoxious in there. Service was not personable. Sushi is okay, but not noteworthy. For great sushi nearby, try Hama Sushi in Herndon at the Clock Tower.
