  1. I do believe that when your book is published, it will be a huge hit with many of your loyal fans and customers. How often are you at Breadline these days?
  2. My wife and I went to Nova Scotia for our honeymoon a couple of years ago, and one of the highlights of our trip was our visit to the Bay of Fundy and eating the World famous Dinby scallops. Below is a link where you can purchase these treasures of the ocean. http://www.dbkenneyfisheries.com/scallops.html
  3. I agree with the comment that if we as customers have the right to critique restaurants, then the restaurant in turn has the right to critique us. The waitstaff depend on tips to earn money, and the customer should be held accountable if they do not have the decency to call and cancel the reservation. I admit that I am essentially repeating comments that have been made in previous posts. Thank you.
  4. Yeah, the Breadline blog was the first place I checked.
  5. In this forum, I read that Mark Furstenberg was working on a cookbook, and believe that he mentioned that it would be complete by the Fall 2005. After performing searches on: Google, Barnes and Noble, etc... I have not found any mention of his book and wanted to post a question asking if anyone had any updates? Thank you.
  6. If you can catch a ride to Reston, the choice of restaurants range from: Clyde's, M&S Grill (and their seafood restaurant), Morton's, Big Bowl, etc... Another posted listed the Ice House Cafe as a suggestion, and while I haven't dined there, it is supposed to be a good place to get a good meal as well as listen to some great jazz. Their website is: http://www.icehousecafe.com/.
  7. Another option would be the Dulles Town Center Mall, and the restaurants located within.
  8. Do I need to consider the size of the chef's knife? The three sizes that most knives I have seen fall into the range of: 6 inches, 8 inches, or 10 inches. The latter sounds a little big and think that an 8 inch knife is more than sufficient. Agree? Thank you.
  9. Since moving to northern Virginia a little over two years ago, I have enjoyed the opportunity to use this site and other blogs to explore the local restaurants and farmer's markets. The latter has probably been more enjoyable as it has afforded me the opportunity to purchase locally grown produce and fresh meat to bring home and prepare for my wife and I. While certainly not an expert in the kitchen, I am not a novice either. I would like to invest in a superb set of kitchen knives, and believe that Wustof is the best available. I am unable to purchase a full block set, and would rather purchase one or two at a time to complete the block. If anyone has any feedback, or suggestions regarding this brand or others please let me know.
  10. It is cool to hear that some of the DR members are CIA graduates. I had no idea, but certain that those folks are part of the reason why the restaurant scene here in Washington,DC is heating up.
  11. A friend attended the Culinary Institute of America www.ciachef.edu in Hyde Park, New York and highly recommend for anyone interested in either cooking or the business side of running a restaurant. The school also offers boot camp classes throughout the year where you can go to New York and train under the school's highly acclaimed instructors.
  12. I agree that the salads at the Breadline look great, and can also add that Marvelous Market also has good salads.
  13. Anyone know a good restaurant in Washington,DC or Virginia to find crab rangoons?
  14. I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner for my wife this year, and figured that I would spare myself the hassle of baking and order a pie. The best two pie companies I have found are: The James River Pie Company - http://www.jamesriverpie.com/ or Dangerous Pies - http://www.dangerouspies.com/ If anyone has tried either company and can offer feedback on preference, or suggest another route, I would be grateful. Thank you.
  15. In addition to the recommendation for Sutton Place and Balducci's up above, I would suggest Whole Foods. They do a nice job.
  16. I work next door to the restaurant, and can report that they have a great happy hour and serve free pizza at the bar.
  17. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to purchase fresh pasta to cook with at home? I read one of Tom Sietsema's chats where he suggests a place called: Peperonata Pasta, but am looking for a place a little closer to Washington,DC or Reston, Virginia. Thank you.
  18. Smoking Loon is a safe bet, and reasonably priced at or around ten dollars. I have seen it at Whole Foods, Sams, Harris Teeter, etc... Both the Merlot and Cab are great deals at this price.
  19. It is also worth checking out Market Salamander two blocks down the street.
  20. I was born in Italy, and have only recently moved to the northern Virginia area. Since moving to northern Virginia, it is surprising to see how rude and disrespectful both diners and waitstaff can be. From my perspective, the lack of manners tends to be on the customer and for whatever reason cannot understand why effort is not made on being polite and being grateful for the opportunity to eat in such a fine establishment.
  21. It is apparant that some of the comments are from folks that haven't eaten here. While I certainly haven't been to Breadline, I agree that it probably sets the standard for sandwiches in the area. However, Atlanta Bread Company is certainly more than a step above places like: Potbelly, Quiznos, etc... My wife and I ate at ABC yesterday, and know that chips are not a normal side with their sandwiches. Both of us ordered a half sandwich and soup/chili and the total bill was twelve dollars and change.
  22. I agree that the deli is a step up from Subway, Panera, etc... but think that the food, atmosphere, etc... is quite a bit better. At the location in Dulles, there is a sitting area with a fireplace, sofa and chairs, etc... and also different because it is almost cafe style in that you don't order from a waiter/waitress. Attached is a weblink to the company where everyone can see the menu, and see where they have locations.
  23. Atlanta Bread Company. Not sure if anyone has eaten at this open deli, but wanted to let everyone know that anyone running errands out in the Dulles area should stop by for lunch.
