  1. Looks like Roberto has taken this as a duel... He had a Breadline Pork sandwich sitting out today at the Grill, with a challenge...
  2. hehe good one. Come see Grandma's Famous Hot Salami's on tour, featuring Martian Pigslop from Hell, at the Dr.com Picnic, June 4th.
  3. I'm a comin' and bringing my +1. We'll contribute beer and a couple of my grandma's famous Hot Salami's. Can't wait.
  4. I think they close at 6pm at dupont...
  5. If you can't find them on the menu, no big deal, they have them - just say "With Homemade Chips, please." However, does anyone else find the chips to have a spicy hard-boiled egg taste/smell? Not that that's a bad thing, but after realizing this, I couldn't finish the entire bag...
  6. That actually sounds fantastic - I will keep that one in my back pocket. Just worried someone else might be making the fruit dessert, since I was supposed to bring the brownies - do you happen to know of anywhere that has the brownies or coffee cakes or anything else, pre-made? Thanks!
  7. Anybody know where I can buy some kosher for passover desserts for tonight? Looking for a place between DC and Kensington, MD. Was supposed to make the brownies, but ran out of time - Please help! Thx
  8. hanks so much for your response Joe H, I was hoping you'd reply - IMHO, you're one of the resident experts Any estimate on how long it will take to drive to Waterman's from DC?
  9. Really? San Marco is good? I have walked past many, many times, never really thought it could be that great, really, only due to it's locale on 18th. Would you say it's better than Otello's? I managed to score a res. there for tomorrow night, but am still not settled as I've never been there before and can be swayed. I would totally do Pasta Mia, but am worried about the line plus the size of my party, and can't say for sure that we'd all be ready at 5:30...
  10. Nope, Tosca's not out of the price range - thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, we want pasta - 10 miler isn't that big of a race I suppose, the reg. did close out so it should be packed, but it's not a marathon. But, it's our first time running A race, (my first time running 10 miles!) and we'd like a big pasta dinner before hand (need all the help I can get!)
  11. Help! I have a group of 9 including some runners that want pasta Saturday night before the race on Sunday, and there has been a suggestion of Buca Di Beppo of suiting the bill!! I am bucking this with all my might, but I need help coming up with places to call to see if they can accomodate us - again, looking for pasta (Italian). Already called Dino, looking at Sette Osteria - where else should I try? Please help, I will cry if I have to go to Buca!!!
  12. Hello, My pops is in town for the weekend, and we have a craving for steamed & spiced crabs. Going to be running the 10 miler on Sunday morning, and am thinking that Sunday afternoon/evening would be the time to go - we may be pretty tired, so I don't want to go trekking more than 30-45 minutes away ( I live in DC). I would just go to Cantler's, but am in the mood to branch out, and of course am seeking the best crabs. I've read the previous posts about Suicide Bridge & Waterman's, and am wondering if they're worth the extra mileage... Also, I know it is the very beginning of the season, should I expect anything other than high prices? The crab will still be great, right?? Thanks
  13. Heya MBK- Actually, I would try "So's Your Mom" - not to far from you, on Columbia, between 19th and 18th. It's right next to Astor Cafe and a Bank of America. They've got great stuff- the BEST corned beef & liver sandwich around, it's my favorite deli. Also, their sweets are good, and I know for a fact they have poppy seed humentashen, but not sure about apricot - I bet you could request it. Anyway, you must go there!
  14. Yeah, I have a feeling the Po' Boy won't hold me the rest of the afternoon... And I think it WAS meant to have more than 3 oysters! I mean, c'mon, if you split the sandwich in half there should AT LEAST be 2 on each half! I wouldn't care so much if the thing wasn't so darn tasty. Oh... and on a side note, the lemon/lime/mint/cucumber flavored water is pretty good too - for $0.50
  15. Just went to Breadline for the second time, and thanks to the board suggestions, got the Oyster Po' Boy. Slightly apprehensive due to my past experience there with an overly fried & greasy soft-shell crab sandwich, I thought the oysters might share the same fate, even though I knew from reading that they were done in corn-meal. So anyway, I got the sandwich - I wasn't disappointed. This really is a tasty sandwich. Delicious slaw and remoulade, with nicely done corn-meal fried oysters, on soft, light and buttery tasting bread. Yum. One big issue though - oysters / price. I don't feel like I got enough oysters to justify the steep $10 for a lunch sandwich price (now, for some of you, I'm sure $10 is a normal lunch price, but for someone like me who has to be pretty budget conscious, I really don't like to spend more than $6-7 on lunch, and that's pushing it). I know it's fresh seafood (I hope) and so it's more expensive than your regular turkey sandwich, but still I would have liked more oysters - I bet there were only 4 on there. While I loved the sandwich, unfortunately due to the price/value I can't make it a weekly thing. But, it was most definitely worth trying!!
  16. Hello everyone, I just wanted to shout out my praise for the awesome meal last night - what a treat. I had never had Korean before, and now I know I will definitely be heading back to Han Sung Oak, and will be quite confident when I order! Everything was delicious, I cannot thank Grover and Escoffier enough for instigating this great event. It's for dinners and company like last night that I signed up to DR.com in the first place. Thanks again, and I can't wait for the next one! mmmm just thinking about that japchae and the korean bbq has started my mouth a-watering...
  17. Hello Rockers, I'm going to Aspen in March for a few days, for the first time. I've heard about the $$$ grub, so if it's going to be expensive, I want it to be worth it. I'm interested in bkfast/lunch/dinner spots, from the easy/reasonable to the fantastic blow-out. Also, some fun apres-ski spots would be appreciated as well. Does anyone have any ideas? I imagine I'd go to a must-go place despite the price, for one night most likely. The others nights I'd hope to be a little more sensible. Thanks everyone. -Rachel
  18. Thanks for all the replies everyone - they ended up just getting takeout from Heritage India and requesting 'very hot'. This post got my mouth watering for some Szechuan food - Are there any good Szechuan dishes to be had in the district (chinatown - downtown - dupont - adams morgan )? If not, I guess I'll have to get to Joe's soon!
  19. Hello, I have a friend who is going out to dinner tonight with a group that requested spicy food. Money is no object. I suggested Indique, as the last time I was there the Chicken Vindaloo was fierce. I'd love to hear some more ideas. Thanks! -Rachel
  20. I really enjoyed the sides at Viridian during a recent visit - would it be possible to get the recipe for those delicious Brussel Sprouts? I hope they don't take them off the menu, but if they do, I'd really appreciate knowing how to make them myself! Thank you and good luck
  21. Color me confused - why does the title say that the "chef has just left?" Has Nora jumped ship? Is this why the place is no longer worth visiting? I am a newbie to the site but wanted to add that I dined at Nora about a year ago, and was very pleased with the experience - Yes, it is a tad over reasonably priced, but I thought the execution of the dishes, i.e. roast chicken, squash soup, steak, even the salad, was delicious. I wouldn't go back on my own dime, but wouldn't turn it down on somebody else's. -Rachel p.s. just wanted to add, if DonRocks reads this, thank you for this great forum!! I'm new to DC, from Boston, and this is a most welcome venue to get all my foodie info.
