  1. This was a great time - to all who couldn't make it or are considering PS7, give it a shot! It's worth it. Thanks to DR, PS and the bar staff for making this happen.
  2. Ugh, I am dying for good chinese delivery! From where did you order?? What area do you live in? Tried to get Great Wall Szechuan to deliver to Woodley Park, but they weren't capable of navigating to this area. I feel like the only good delivery for Woodley is Heritage Glover Park or Thai (I do the Regent, but am meaning to try Thai X-ing). I wish there were more options, especially as the weather gets colder!
  3. wow - those pics are amazing, my mouth is watering! thanks for posting! more motivation for me to get out there and try these sandwiches, asap! hopefully this weekend...
  4. Anybody ever eat at or get delivery from Cluck-U Chicken? The one on Georgia Ave, specifically. Is it any good? What do you get? Having a chicken wing craving... Thanks!
  5. This type of post may not be in the right place, and it may even already exist somewhere - sorry about that. I've lived in DC for the past 2 years, and am fairly familiar with the restaurant scene in the area. I'm the type of foodie that is willing to travel for a great meal. I trek to Annapolis frequently for my crab fix and am not afraid to cross the bridge into NoVa. But I must confess, I have never eaten out in Baltimore, outside of Camden Yards. I'd like to ameliorate this situation. My question is, what places are worth the drive? I'm talking must-go places: BBQ, sandwiches, ethnic cuisines, hole-in-the-wall, fast-food, one-of-a-kind, fine dining, crabs, etc. If you left the city, what foods would you crave, what places would you be sure to hit when you came back to visit? I am completely unfamiliar with Baltimore, and want to expand my horizons. What foods and restaurants are classic Baltimore, other than crab shacks? Thanks for all the help, I'm looking forward to the tips!
  6. haha that is hilarious. Yah, I forgot to mention Amighetti's above, glad you hit that and scored a gooey butter cake. Hope you liked Cardwell's - I've never been a big fan of that place. Food's always pretty blah. My favorite thing at Ted Drewes is the milk-chocolate sauce (I think they call it chocolate-marshmellow), over custard with macademia and bananas. oooh thats good stuff. Now, where can I find this Baltimore pit beef that you speak of??
  7. Yeah, funeral homes aren't exactly my ideal hang out . Wasn't looking for intimacy, was looking for the ability to enjoy wine and fun conversation with my friends on a Friday night, and in a lively setting - but if this place's niche is painfully loud wine bar, then you're right, it's not for me and I'll take my business elsewhere without hesitation, as we did that night. A loud environment such as this was unacceptable for what we were seeking that evening - I wanted to be able to hear what my friends were saying and to communicate without shouting. I hope that the loudness I experienced is not in fact the "nature of this beast," as the owner himself said he was looking for ways to minimize the noise. I hope he's successful at this so that I might also be able to experience the feel and vibe of this place that you and others enjoy.
  8. I was walking by with some friends Friday night, and thought to try this place for some good wine and a little grub. Hadn't really read anything on the board yet other than the first spattering of criticism about the website. Was about 9pm, pulled open the door, took two steps inside with my friends right behind me, and promptly turned right around. It was incredibly and painfully L-O-U-D. Two steps forward, two steps back out the door Loud. My friend has a slight hearing issue, so I immediately knew this wouldn't work for us- but even if she hadn't been there, I would have done the same exact thing. Yes it was Friday night, the place was packed, and I didn't go in far enough to see if we would have been able to get seats anyway. I'm guessing (and hoping) it's not this bad on a weeknight, or even earlier on. But man, at that time it was like walking into a wall of noise.
  9. It does smell so good! I am guessing Soy Sauce is a component too, but it is not a large flavoring factor - if it was just soy flavored meat I wouldn't be interested. If you're asking b/c of allergies, then you should definitely ask to find out, but if it's a taste question - it doesn't taste like straight-up soy, and to be honest soy-sauce hadn't really entered my mind when I was eating, and I had both the spicy chicken and the spicy beef. I think there's some sriracha and red pepper flakes involved in both the chicken and the beef. Other than that, I don't know - but I do think the cart is worth trying.
  10. Parked right near the cart today and couldn't resist giving it a try... got the spicy 1/2 and 1/2. Have to say, this was very satisfying - both the spicy chicken and the spicy bulgogi are very tasty - good flavor and some heat, just like I like it actually. Didn't even want for sriracha which is unusual for me. And the rice was great - surprisingly so. Agree that $6.75 is steep for "street meat", but this is truly a heaping pile of tasty beef, chicken and rice - it's a lot of food. Definitely get your money's worth, and then some. Only weak spots are the lettuce and kimchee. If I'm back in that area I will definitely try the Bibimbap. Didn't see anyone ordering it and was wondering how it would fare. I like how the cart's yellow (just thought I'd add that in). Sigh, if only we could get some good options like this in the Union Station wasteland...
  11. Steak N Shake, Lion's Choice and Imo's of course, and more toasted ravioli The Frenchie sandwich from Companion in Clayton is also a must for me. You should get some BBQ if you can, too. I love Super Smoker's, but not sure if they're still around anywhere. Also, if you can get a res, Sydney St. Cafe is my favorite restaurant in St.Louis. Also, people seem to like Niche a lot too, it's basically across the street from Sydney St. Haven't heard about An American Place. Have fun!
  12. As far as I could tell, the menu features dishes from all three. Gave this place a take-out try in hopes of the mouth-numbing ma la flavor way closer than Rockville Pike. Didn't quite happen - although what I did order was tasty. Made it clear I liked Szechuan style, spicy, with the red peppers. Got a dish along these lines with Beef that had great flavor, and some sliced carrots and peppers. Strips of beef were good, but not crispy (though wasn't advertised as such, I kinda wished they were). The dish did pack a punch - a deep heat that made me sweat, but not the mouth and mind numbing I was seeking. Also got the dumplings, which were tasty- flavorful meat filling, and just the right thickness and stickiness in the wrapper, as they didn't fall apart at all yet weren't too firm. The woman running the front of the house, Jenny, was very nice and helpful. I'll definitely be back to explore the menu...
  13. Very interesting, can't wait to see the pics - I agree with hmmboy. Comet was easily the worst pizza I've had in DC the one time I was there...
  14. I agree - this place hits the spot like nowhere else I've been in this area (which isn't saying too much, but still). The chicken soup is incredibly flavorful - just how I like it, enough salt and savory with a depth of chicken flavor. One big problem though - this was one of the worst matza balls I've ever had! I too like the big fluffy versions, but this tasted like straight up matza meal or something - it was grainy and cold in the middle and had no flavor. Luckily, this was the only low point for me - I had my usual, corned beef and chopped liver on fresh rye, with tomatoes, mustard and pickles, and with the first bite I was in heaven. I would certainly call this corned beef luscious, and the chopped liver was delicious. The right consistency - smooth but chunky, with a hint of sweet - perhaps cinnamon? Yum. Anyway, I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a jewish deli, and will absolutely be back again and again. Oh, and I was here on what I would've thought to be one of the busiest days of the year, and while the place was full, service was perfectly satisfactory, no qualms. Happy healthy New Year to everyone!
  15. Finally got it right - ordered from the Glover Park location, and man, that was some tasty Indian! Haven't had Indian food that good in a long time, certainly not delivery. That Chicken Makhani is definitely laced with crack amongst the buttery goodness. And the Tikka Masala was smoky and complex, and the first time I'd ever been served chunks of tomato in the dish (which were delicious). Last time I ordered, I called the Dupont location - I won't make that mistake again! Difference is night and day. I wouldn't order from Heritage unless it's Glover Park. Only qualm is that it's expensive, but the quality is there.
  16. Just the texture? Did yours actually have flavor/tartness? I agree on the texture though, its icy and light, I guess, as opposed to creamy/yogurty. I'll go back if I hear that it actually has tartness to it, because that would mean I must have had an off batch or something. Saw on the chowhound boards that a couple of promising places are headed this way in lieu of Pinkberry - Snowberry and Lollicup. Sounds like they should arrive this fall sometime. And Synaesthesia, what Asian yogurt drink are you talking about? Where could I try one? Thanks
  17. Just stopped by this place, think it might be rather new. Was drawn in by the Pinkberry-esque yogurt bar. Recently tried Pinkberry for the first time in LA, and after the first bite became addicted. Love their yogurt because of the vanilla tartness. It's almost like frozen Dannon vanilla yogurt, which I love. Alas, Sweetgreen's yogurt is missing that wonderful vanilla tartness - in fact, it tasted like nothing, just cold and smooth. Which is strange, because the flavor itself is called Plain Tart. The only thing tart about this yogurt was the flock of scantily clad coeds downing it . So, unless I ordered incorrectly, and in fact there are two yogurt flavors - Plain and Tart - I probably won't be heading out of my way for a fix. The idea is you get a small or medium, and have 3 or more mix-ins: fresh fruit or other sweet items. The fruit was okay - not California fresh but oh well. The other half of the small but pleasant space is a salad bar, which looked promising and not price-gauging like I'd expect in gtown. Seemed no more expensive than a Cosi salad, but with fresher looking and more inventive options. Anybody else been here yet? I still hope a Pinkberry comes to town soon - LA and NYC, we gotta be next! Sweetgreen 3333 M St., Georgtown eatsweetgreen.com
  18. Finally tried El Pollo Rico for lunch in Arlington last week. Wow! First experience with this type of chicken, and man was that good! Spiced up and juicy, this was a delicious bird! Too bad I work and live too far away (across the river ) to make this trip often. Only blemish would be the sides - lackluster fries and meh coleslaw. Liked the sauces though, especially mixed together.
  19. One of the best decisions you made all day - I was a sucker, and wasted an hour waiting in the line at 1pm before I had to leave empty handed and incredibly hangry (definition: anger caused by hunger, i.e. I have hanger management issues). All the people behind me abandoned their aspirations, and then some of the 12 people in front of me started ducking out, and finally I had to leave as well without even getting close enough to order. I don't know what the deal was - but nobody was getting food for a solid 30 minutes (this should have been my tip off that something was wrong, but I was blinded by hunger, and the great smells wafting from the cart). I don't know if this is an ingredients issue, an inefficiency issue or what, but waiting for over an hour at a food cart felt ridiculous, unless they're serving up something freaking awesome. Really wish the guy taking orders could have thrown us a clue, since I was hanging on to hope until it was too late. Due to today's debacle, I won't be back there until I get a first-hand account of efficiency and deliciousness, and definitely won't go out of my way. Right now I'm too aggravated to return p.s. it's Delle & Campbell, looked like a website would be coming soon.
  20. Thanks for posting this - what a great development. I'm looking forward to the Kebab truck. Anyone been to the ones that are open yet? Can't wait to hear the reports...
  21. If they're open! They'll be closed from August 19th through Labor day... I, for one, am not happy about that. August would have been the perfect time for me to partake in a happy hour/lunch at Johnny's. Can't remember if this applies to the Taqueria, too...
