  1. Mostly, for me this is reasonable because with Mama's dumplings, or any of the dumpling's at China Bistro, they aren't the supplemental to the meal - with 12 to an order, they ARE the meal. In which case, $7.50 for dinner is pretty good.
  2. I want to recommend RTC to some family that will be in town for the Marine Corps Marathon, to celebrate. But, I think they'll be staying in DC. Does anyone know how long/how much a cab ride to RTC is from the district? Unfortunately, I don't know exactly where they'll be staying yet, but I intend to find out and post when I do. But, as a point of reference, I live in Adams Morgan, so let's just say from there and I can figure out the rest. Thanks!!
  3. ahha. thats what that sign meant yeah, i figured it might be tough, but i'll try it. i just gotta make sure that meat gets cooked through. the woman behind the counter said just to boil them thoroughly. we'll see!
  4. I had a great experience here last night - after a long evening. These are the best dumpling's I've had in this area. I thought Mama's dumplings were fresh and delicious. Just right on the wrapping thickness and tenderness, held in the meat and didn't fall apart after a bite if I didn't put the whole thing in my mouth, and the filling was so tasty, loved the shrimp bits with the pork and the chive. And, I thought it's a good deal to get 12 for $7.50. I had that and a hot and sour soup (which was forgetable), and brought 4 dumplings home. And even after the 25 minute drive home, the roomies also fell for these dumplings. Also bought some of the uncooked beef and celery to bring home and try on my own - after examining them, you can tell the TLC that goes into the making of these beauties. AND, I LOVED the bubble tea! I got a mango bubble tea that tasted like mango puree mixed with tea, and a perfect amount of boba - I finished both the liquid and the boba at the same time. The boba were mushy on the outside and a bit firm and chewy on the inside, just how I like them. Man those are addictive. I am probably going to be making this a weekly, if I can, place. Anyone know any other bubble tea places around DC that are as good as this? I highly recommend this place to any serious dumpling afficionado, but only for the die-hard if you trek it from DC during rush hour. Otherwise, at other times, it's a must. If these aren't the best dumplings around, would someone please let me know where I might find better ones? Hopefully closer to DC! But, regardless, I'll be going back to this place. It's for foodie treks like last night that I'm so grateful for DonRockwell.com
  5. What a great (under) $20 tuesday last nite was - joe's was so tasty, i'm just sorry i don't live closer. even though the fire in my belly woke me up last nite at 3am, it was all worth it, and i am seriously craving some more of that numbingly spicy dry sauteed beef....
  6. Woops, wish I'd have known that sooner - what is the focus here, Szechuan? Are their dumplings decent at least?
  7. Do we have a set menu for Joe's tonight? I'm hoping to get the best of their noodles and dumplings! The rest is gravy Looking forward to seeing everyone...
  8. Ditto!! Is this really going to happen? I LOVE steak n shake - I'm from STL, I thought they were based there, b/c they're everywhere in the lou. I grew up on steak n shake... mmmmmm frisco melts and cheese fries and triple steak burgers....
  9. Please count me in for Oooh's and Aaah's - I've been waiting to try this place! Thx.
  10. Hey thanks - yeah, I've never spent any time in Ireland, but I have spent time in England, and Crunchies and Aero's and the Cadbury chocolates make the trip across the pond that much sweeter... Wasn't aware they originated in Ireland. But wherever they're from, they're my fav candy bars and I'm glad that I can easily find them here now at Eamonn's.
  11. Was in for lunch last week - while I definitely enjoyed it, I think I prefer a batter on the cod that's a little less thick & bready... I'm sure I'll be back to try again though. Loved the atmosphere, loved the frites, and the best part for me : The fried banana - If you like bananas, this is a must! p.s. the selection of British chocolates and sodas is great! Especially love the crunchie bars... wonder if they'd deep fry one of them for me...
  12. If this gets rescheduled or a second night is added, I would love to check this place out...
  13. Does this mean that Ray's The Steaks will not be open nor functioning at 100% the next three days? I had hoped to take my mother and brother one of the next few nights... I do believe that if it's open, it will be functioning at 100% - but - I once had trouble at another great restaurant that was throwing a big to-do on the night that I was eating and entertaining there, so just wanted to double check...
  14. I've decided: Mackey's Pub. I'll be the girl sittin alone w/ the pint and fish n chips if anyone cares to say hello
  15. Thanks MBK Yeah, Lucky Bar is closer and with this weather, I may have to settle for that. But, I was hoping there'd be something even closer... ESPN Zone will be perfect.
  16. Where are people watching the US game at noon? I'm looking for a place near 21st and L downtown for a beer, bite, and soccer... any ideas?
  17. I went around 6 months ago, and it was really good. While I can't remember exactly what dishes I had, I know there was a whitefish and a tuna ordered, and both were expertly cooked. I seem to remember the whitefish being quite juicy with a great flavor I hadn't remember tasting in fish... and the accompanying sides were also fabulous. On the pricey side, I'd go as an occasion or with a parent (if budget-conscious). Sorry this is a bit vague, but I do definitely think that if you are a fish eater, it is worth trying.
  18. Can I have a ride in your time machine, too? In case not, what I usually do to satisfy my galileo meatball sub cravings is head to Greek Deli and get the meatball daily special, either the red or the white sauce and some orzo and that delicious bread. yumm.
  19. Just wanted to let people know, it's Free Donut Day! http://www.slashfood.com/2006/05/31/free-doughnuts-on-friday I'll be headin to Krispy Kreme shortly...
  20. Petit Plats is my favorite brunch place - though not an every weekend excursion, due to the price (I believe it's around $15/person). IMHO the eggs benedict is the best in the city. A delightfully light and airy hollandaise with a whiff of lemon rests upon the poached eggs and country ham. mmmhmm. Also, their soups are usually delicious - I've had a mushroom consume (sp?), as well as a carrot, and a butternut squash. Big serving bowls, too. I also love the salt and pepper shakers there - the little magnet men that you can make dance
  21. Okay, I enjoy Sake Club as well - but am not prepared to rank it as second to Sushi-Ko. IMHO, Sushi Taro gets that nod. I've found the service and quality at Sake Club to be for the most part good, not great, and sometimes off... However, I do love their sake menu - that's basically the perk that keeps me coming back, that and the proximity to my crib. Agreed on the crunchy scallop roll, it's my fav. Also, my SO likes the filet mignon dish on the regular menu. But, if I have the choice, I'd head to Sushi-Ko or Sushi Taro, where I whole-heartedly believe you get more bang for your buck. (P.S. the salmon sashimi quality at Sushi-Ko blew me away... it was Like Butta...)
  22. I'm actually heading there for a Wedding in June, and am very much excited. I've heard only good things about this place, and the food.
