  1. Tuesday in this case is being used in the generic sense of $20 Tuesdays (which can occur any day of the week..in which case they become honorary Tuesdays unless they fall on Thursday, in which case they become temporary honorary Tuesdays so that when the $20 Tuesday event ends we can return to the regularly scheduled day of the week (DOTW) which is already in progress.
  2. I plan on being at one or the other of these two Tuesdays (depending on when I go/return from the middle East), so please put me and Grover down as tentative for both. I think StephenB should get the ordering assignment for Hong Kong Palace as he seems to have a certain empathy with Melanie the owner (I would say je ne sais quoi, but I don't know what it is ) .
  3. Grover and I had an amazing dinner here on Friday night. You'll have to pardon the vagueness, but each course built on the previous and they were all excellent. We started with the tomato panna cotta and the Duck Beggars Purse pate. You cannot believe how wonderful the tomato panna cotta was. It brought back Summer and fresh tomatoes. For a second course, I had the Risotto alla Navarese and Grover's soup was Duck Stock and Wild Mushroom with farro. The only words that come close to describing the risotto is "OMG, heavenly". For the main course, I had lamb short-ribs accompanied by mashed potatoes and greens. Needless to say, the veggies were ignored in favor of the ribs. The ribs were excellent. They were flavorful, tender and fell off the bone. By this time we were both totally stuffed, so naturally we had to have dessert... House infused Ambersweet Orange-"cello"...which should probably be against the law because it was so good. Dean selected the wine pairings, Kay selected dessert and the choices were spot-on. When we left, we were happily fed and full. All in all, a wonderful dinner. Edited to correct my lousy spelling and to insert the correct names of the dishes we had, so that you can order the same things when you go to Dino.
  4. Is the tofu house ARA? The restaurant behind the CVS on LR turnpike? If that's the one you're speaking of, Grover was there and she said it was good. I'm going to go and then I can give the mee-guk opinion.
  5. The University of Virginia does not have a campus. It has the grounds and a bunch of other (new) buildings. Foods of All nations is at Ivy Road and Alderman Rd. The closest part of the U would be the new dorms on Alderman or the old dorms on McCormick. Not really a easy hike but do-able if you were hungry enough and didn't have a car (which first year students do not). If you want someplace walkable, I'd suggest Anna's Pizza which is near Jefferson Park Ave (JPA to people who live there) and IS a short walk from the dorms.
  6. Bastille has improved considerably since it first opened so it's worth a visit. Le Refuge has been around forever for a reason. Again worth a visit. La Bergerie is a very traditional French. Somewhat dressy but good.
  7. I like it better the other way...makes it more fun (and interesting)...see you this evening.
  8. Errr, don't you mean Grover? I don't think Don will be there...see you tomorrow at 7:00pm.
  9. Are you going to plan the menu again? (hint, hint)...I can stop by and pick up a menu.
  10. Probably better to wait a bit actually. Not a lot of people can make plans that quickly, especially at this time of the year.
  11. Hmm, veggies...I'm not sure about that...(I try to avoid good-for-you stuff if possible) and the liquor license is a yes...
  12. That's the one. Between the banks and the tire store. Across from the diner. Easiest way to describe the location is to say pass the turn for the post office on John Marr Drive and it's the next left turn lane. I'll let Grover answer this one. We may just run by there tomorrow (okay, so I really like the jjangmyunyung) and grab a menu and put together a tentative menu. Their fried dumplings are excellent. They also make their own noodles. I think people will be pleasantly surprised at just how good and approchable this food really is. (and they have really great jampong as well)
  13. Ummm, that's YECHON (no A according to their Romanji sign). If you want someone to order for you, you might ask Grover..she seems to know a lot about Korean food.
  14. Daddy Grace's place...best to go for early or late lunch...don't ever go at noon...(unless you have a 3 hour lunch). Great food, great price. Guaranteed to fill you up. If you have a problem with white bread, stay away, if you have a problem with cholesterol, stay away...if you like food like your grandmother cooked (and your grandmother was Southern born), for heaven's sake go (not sure if that pun is intentional or not)
  15. I have to go to Dubai and Oman soon. I don't like eating in hotel restaurants because they are overly expensive and not representative of the country you're in. Anyone have recommendations/suggestions for good food at reasonable prices?
  16. How appropriate. I listened in the original language here in Korea...
  17. actually 4 tables but who's counting...and a counter in the window facing Queen St.
  18. As someone, along with Grover and StephenB, who had a small part in making this happen, I just have to say, "It's about damn time"...Congratulations to the two of you.
  19. Atlantis makes a decent pizza (we go there when we're too tired to go for "serious" food. It's close by so it's easy. Fairlington Pizza is walking distance from our house but because they don't take credit cards, we don't go there often. Their pizza is good Greek pizza (just like Atlantis).
