  1. Did you try the hush puppies with the sauce it came with? I think it was peach sauce...very good. Our service started off good, then our waiter got a big table and forgot about us. We had several people come by to ask how we were doing, and although we were clearly done no one would remove our plates. This was most likely a training issue, so we were forgiving.
  2. don't like the idea of droppings being found where I eat. This topic is going to make me stay home more often for dinner. Nasty
  3. Wow, This is the fist time I have looked at this. In South Carolina every restaurant has a grade posted near the door (A,B,C or D) anything below an A is posted in Red. There is a resataurant that we all love on this board with some serious critical violations, one of which I thought was just nasty!
  4. I know this place is still new, however the wife and I decided to give a shot this past Friday night. I have mixed feelings about this place, and it may have something to do with me being from the Low country of South Carolina. I really wished there was a place like the Hominy Grill here in DC, where you could get real Low Country Cooking. Indigo Landing, I think is taking a more upscale approach to Low Country cooking, which is fine but not what I am looking for in this type of cooking. We started off with the She Crab soup which was really lacking in crab flavor or crab, however it was served with a crab spring roll that was loaded fresh tasting crab meat, it was not even close to matching the original dish. My main entree was the grilled black grouper with Vidalia onion rings, green rice, and a mussel barbecue sauce. I thought this was a good creative dish, that recreated some old Charleston stables like red rice, and mustard based barbecue sauce. My wife had the crisped sea bass, that was served with a very good succotash with crab and bacon, I like her dish better than my own because of the bacon. We also tried the fois gras hush puppies, these were excellent very light with bits of fois gras throughout. For the dessert we tried the very boring standard chocolate cake, that was served with a very good peach ice cream. Indigo Landing is still getting up in running, so I don't want to judge too soon. I doubt we will be going back for a second try. I thought some of the food was good and will hopefully get better as the chef adjust to cooking this type of food. For me less is more when to comes to Low Country Cooking.
  5. I agree that the show is fixed, but it is good entertainment. I have eaten at Galileo twice in the past year, and the food was average to below average at best. I think Fabio getting a James Beard award is more important to DC, than Roberto on Iron Chef. Fabio's food is on another level, and he is acutally in his kitchen most nights, I would rather see the young chefs in DC on shows like Iron Chef. Think Eric at CityZen, Monis at Komi, Fabio at Mastro, and Armstrong from Eve, these guys are changing DC dinning for the better, and are in the Kitchen everynight!
  6. I agree, this is a great shop. I have discovered so many different wines by shopping here. I love the monthly six packs
  7. I recently discovered Jip Jip Rocks 2004 Shiraz at Arrow Wine in Arlington, for about $10. It's a really fine wine for the price. Arrow Wine usually features a 6 pack of the month where you get 3 whites and 3 reds at a discounted price from a specific region. This month it is wines from Spain for around $74! I have been picking up this 6 pack for the past few months, and I have never been disappointed by the selections. The link below will take you to the Newsletter for May. I hope this helps http://arrowine.com/news.html
  8. I don't ever remember Temp Asian being crowded the several times I went before he moved to Fairfax, maybe because it was a bad location. I have been trying to get to the new place for several weeks, but I guess I missed my chance.
  9. That's fine, however the atomosphere is important and should compliment what's on the plate. I guess there is a reason they call it 1789, I am not sure the modern food of the new chef fits.
  10. I went right after the new Chef starting working, and the food was not that great and the atmosphere was even worse. It just seemed so old school and aristocratic for my taste. At those prices, there are much better choices in DC!
  11. take this back. We went to Komi last night, and the pig was excellent this time, very moist and so good. I have heard people rave about the doughnuts, I thought they lacked flavor however the baklava ice cream was a hit. We had the tasting menu, and the standout from the little plates were the fried soft shell crabs with cuttlefish and chick peas. This is the still the best deal in DC for great food , $64 dollars for a tasting menu is a steal.
  12. I agree with the wine comment. Right now this is the best deal in town hands down. I think not haveing a reservation system will cause me to make more trips. However, I did find it kind of strange when I first arrived and the guy at the host station ask me for what date and time would I need a table for two???
  13. I have been trying to set up a dinner for 10 people at Firefly in May, and no one has returned my calls in two days after calling them twice. This is bad business, as far as I am concerned, and not a very good first impression. I guess they not want my business. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a group of this size on a Sunday night. Thanks
  14. I was sold, the wife and I just got back from Ray's and this is a great deal! We ordered the salmon and the steak, and both were good. We have been to Ray's about four times in the past, and I have never tried the Crab Bisque until tonight and it was outstanding. I am from Charleston, and this puts She Crab Soup to shame. There was at least a 1/2 lb of crab in my cup We also ordered tha wine special, and it was pretty damn good stuff. Thanks Mike for offfering such a great deal. We were also able to get a table right away at 7pm, so that was a plus.
  15. This is the worst cooking show ever!!
  16. I have been a fan of Earl's since the beginning, and I am glad to see that they are doing well judging by the size of the crowd I saw there on Saturday afternoon. I really loved the place when they had a real simple small menu, that focused on a few very good sandwiches. What I noticed this weekend was cause for concern. Earl's is now offering dinner specials, and I don't mean sandwiches. I believe I saw a crab cake special, and a few others on the outside board. What I did like, was the selection of sandwich specials on the blackboard inside. There was a rainbow trout sandwich, and a grilled salmon sandwich, that was quite good. I hope they don't try to do too much, that it really starts to have a negative impact on the quality of the sandwiches.
  17. Most of the good restaurants are closed, can anyone recommend a nice place on go on Sundays for dinner.
