  1. Good show tonight. Does anyone else think that Jeffrey Steingarten is an ass?
  2. Is Cristal really that good? I have not had the pleasure of tasting this or Dom. My favorite Champagne is Pommery, which is the most expesive bottle I have ever bought. How does Champagne like POM or Veuve Clicquot, which I like, compare to the status brands like Cristal or Dom? Is there really that much difference? Also, hate to go off topic, I have an uncle who has been saving a 1974 bottle of Dom for last 30 years. That was the year my cousin was born. I keep telling him it's most likely useless at this point, since it's has not been stored correctly. Am I correct? Is there anyway to know if it's still good without opening the bottle?
  3. When will the expansion be completed? The National Portrait Gallery is awesome. There are many good places for our vistors to the city to eat around gallery place now.
  4. We did a Picnic a few weeks ago, and enjoyed the 2005 1+1=3 Rose Cabernet Sauvigon from Spain. It's not a white but more a happy medium if you don't like white wine. This might be the best Rose I have ever tasted
  5. I have luck out by finding street parking, you really have to go early. I saw the guard the last time I was there, that lot was my normal parking spot. I am not sure why Giant needs such a large lot. I have never seen that lot full!
  6. Yes! make a reservation ASAP! Masestro is also very good, but with Komi you will leave with an extra $200 in your pocket:). I think of Maestro as a special event type of place, we are going for our anniversary next week 4 stars all the way. Komi on the other hand, is a relaxing three hour, 6 course meal with the neighbors. A different kind of 4 star meal, without the 4 star price tag.
  7. Yes, you need to warm them in the oven. She should think about putting this information on the bags. Next time try the shortcakes or the brownies. I was not a fan of the cheese puffs....everything else is very good.
  8. Free wine tastings at Total Beverage every Saturday and Sunday!!!! We lived in that area for about three years and not much going on, we now live in courthouse, and it's night and day when it comes to food. There is a Thai place right across the street in the Starbucks shopping center, thats pretty good. I am not sure what's going on with Tempt Asian these days, but it's right off Duke Street. You could always take a trip to Shirlington where there are more options. Try Best Buns for good sandwiches, and the best bread in DC, right next to the Carlye Grand.
  9. I love South Street, it's what Georgetown should be
  10. I was in Philly last year, and I tried Pat's with whiz, and I found it to be overrated. I remember talking with some locals afterwards, as I did not understand what the big deal was. I was told there are way better cheese steaks in the city than Pat's or Geno's. I heard Jim's on South Street is miles ahead of the others, I will have to find out on my next trip. Side note: Cheese Whiz is just nasty, never order a sandwich with this on it again
  11. Headed to Maestro in a few weeks. Is the pig a new item? I don't recall it on the menu when we were there in October. it sounds really good.
  12. Have you thought about finding a caterer? 60 people is a lot
  13. Opening Soon- Fine Living Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin- give this guy a show on the food network... it needs some color Made to Order- Fine Living Follow that Food- Fine Living No Reservations-Travel Tv Ham on the Street I use to love the food network, but I am growing tired of the same faces on everyshow.
  14. This is a bad business move. What is better than free advertisment? This should be a wake up call to the Hip Hop community to stop pushing products, and not being paid for it! However some rappers are being paid to include products in their songs and videos. That's the only way go!
  15. That sounds real old school. I don't think people care all that much anymore.
  16. So a you can prevent a customer from makeing a reservation?
  17. Dan I don't know a lot about wines, but I love to drink it, and drink well for cheap. It took my wife a few years before she started to enjoy red wines, which I love. I would suggest to try Arrow Wine in Arlington. I really love this shop! each month there is a six pack from a different Country or Region. You get three white wines and three reds for a pretty good price. The June Six-Pax were all wines from France. I beleive it was around $70. They even include a newsletter with information about who made the wine, tasting notes, and what food to pair with each wine. I have never had a bad bottle from this store, but I am not expert. http://arrowine.com/news.html
  18. From the comments section on DCIST Nadya really set off something with that last article: I love ordering wines at these places. There should be wine for evey budget on a list
  19. As any one else noticed that ML gets to post whatever he wants, no matter what?
  20. I had mixed feelings about Komi after my first visit, however I now support the place after visiting several times. There is not a better value in DC! I do not think Komi is trying to be anything other than what it is. I hope is stays that way.I am not a fan of stuffy, and most of the good restaurants in DC and for the matter nationwide, we are seeing less formal environments that are more welcoming. I think it would be bad for business if any restaurant went too formal, that is not the type of atmosphere people are looking for....a least not the under 40 DINKS with disposal income.
  21. Agree with you here. This board is too formal.
  22. I agree with this. It just depends on who you are if you are restricted on what you say. I have been called everything but a child of god via PM, based on some of my comments. I was told in so many words that is this not an open fourm....which I think it should be.
  23. You are correct each dish is ordered by an individual diner, and the serving dishes are left on the table. I am looking at my receipt from last night and the Duck was $23, the fish was $22 (a steal), and both sides were $7 each. I recall some kind of lamb hot pot that was on the menu for $20. Every thing is ordered a la carte so that could add up. Also the Ice Cream did not come with the pie, that was considered another dessert,. Our total bill from last night before tip was $121 including wine, so it could add up. Overall I think it's a pretty good value. Not sure how long it would stay the way. Oh yeah, there is some tea on the menu for $32
