  1. Our long, national coffee nightmare in Falls Church may have ended. Cafe Kindred (cafekindred.com) has opened at 450 North Washington Street. The Vigilante drip coffee was very good, and I'm looking forward to when they start serving espresso drinks soon. My muffin was tasty with actual blueberries in it. It's a very comfortable space with plenty of room and outlets along with the obligatory strong wi-fi. Most importantly, the music is awesome with a cool, British new wave/alternative/whatever vibe. The place is very visible from the street, but they are going to have to do a good job communicating how to park in the lot. This is an ongoing challenge in Falls Church.
  2. Does anyone know anything about this? Could it really be the legit coffee shop in Falls Church for which we have been waiting? http://fcnp.com/2015/03/11/liberty-tavern-owner-moving-new-historic-site-f-c/
  3. It was almost impossible to know it was there. Sadly. Looking forward to the opening of Cafe Kindred around the corner. Facebook Page
  4. Are there any theories on why places that should be able to support independent shops (i.e. Falls Church City) can't? Not surpringly (bad sadly), the Little City Gourmet just closed. I know that was technically in Arlington in a bad location but add it to the list of places that have failed here...
  5. I accepted the challenge and visited today. Great latte, decent bagel, pleasant vibe, friendly service, and fast wi-fi. Big thumbs up. Sadly, it's rather far on a weekday morning so I can't rush back. This doesn't fit the Needed Falls Church Independent Coffee Shop Niche!
  6. I like Dolcezza and accept your challenge to Cafe Amouri and will report back. With that said, I remain surprised the City can't maintain its own independent (or very small chain) place.
  7. I too, need to post more! Echoing the previous comments. The good kids meals for $4 are very nice and the sparkling juice drink for just $3 is a welcome addition for any designated drivers. My wife's chile rellenos were flavorful. I had an order of tacos and the aftorementioned tortilla soup. The upthread explanation of the tortilla soup of basically spicy but bland is spot-on. Weirdly hot but lacking of any actual other flavors. Tacos were fine, but not any more special that Taqueria Poblano. Will definitely go back, probably without kids in an effort to actually try the tequilas.
  8. Thanks, all. I'm enjoying reading this. I guess it goes without saying that the "neighborhood" coffee shop really needs two things. First, good coffee and decent pastries. Second, a welcoming atmosphere where you can camp out for awhile (and buy stuff as appropriate so as to not freeload forever). Given the demographics of Falls Church City, it kind of blows my mind that such a place hasn't been able to thrive.
  9. One of my critical "where to live" criterion is the availability of a good independent coffee house. Do any of these exist in Falls Church City? I know this has been an issue there in the past. Thanks! (Also, apologies if I used "criterion" wrong.)
  10. Nice meal there with both kids a couple nights ago. My meat-laden pizza was great and the kids grilled cheeses were really tasty. I ate most of their fries, please don't tell anyone. BUT.... As I really want this place to succeed in the neighborhood, just expressing a concern about not having sandwiches or anything less of a big deal at dinner time. Although the pastas are reasonably priced, not having a cheaper sandwich/burger/something like that option makes the restaurant a "medium" deal quickly and harder to justify for a spur of the moment quick night out, especially if one is "over-pizzaed" - a common syndrome for parents of younger kids.
  11. Thanks, y'all. What about specific restaurants in Fajardo?
  12. Leaving Thursday... Anyone have any new suggestions??? Thanks.
  13. We had a lovely dinner tonight at Cheestique with the two kiddies. Adult sandwiches for the adults and a very tasty kids' grilled cheese (with very cute kids cups for water/milk). The food was very nice and the service was beyond accomodating. And, this was before the 13-month old actually knocked over a table outside sending glass everywhere. The two servers could not have been nicer about it, and we're very grateful. We'll return, presumably sans kids...
  14. Hi. Anyone have any suggestions for a nice, semi-funky dinner in San Juan? I'm debating between Marmalade and Pikayo and Maramalde is ahead right now. Any other fun places to eat?
  15. Our organization had our party last year at Firefly. The staff did a great job and the food was lovely. We'll be going back there this year. Feel free to PM me for more info.
  16. What the heck, I'll use this opportunity as my first post. Might I suggest the Rock Creek Parkway as the best way home from Silver Spring to Alexandria? Take 16th Street and turn at Walter Reed to get into the Park. You can go all the way to the Memorial Bridge and then hop on the GW parkway. Cheers.
