  1. Starting last week, Foode no longer closes between 3pm and 4pm. They stay open during that hour serving a limited menu. Their website does not yet reflect this change.
  2. One D.C. restaurant loses a Michelin star, while four others claim one, by Emily Heil, October 1, 2019, on washingtonpost.com.
  3. Willow space remains empty now 4 years and running. Given the center of gravity in the neighborhood is shifting towards Ballston Quarter, I'd say this is a condition not likely to change anytime soon.
  4. $15-minimum wage hike is hitting, hurting NYC restaurants, by Jennifer Gould Keil, September 29, 2019, on nypost.com.
  5. No further comments since the opening. Wondering whether it is still worth making the trek to Reston to sample Anyone have a more recent experience at this place?
  6. Heavy Seas in Rosslyn may still have it. I haven't been in years, though. That situation may have changed.

  10. Some people will only drive a BMW or equivalent Others are happy with a KIA. Not everyone is passionate about food, but recognize they must eat to live. Frankly, in many locations dining options are severely limited.
  11. Stick to the SkinnyLicious menu for more reasonable calorie counts. It also wards off the headache that ensues when you try to read through the hundreds of items on the full menu.
  12. I wouldn't read too much into it. We sometimes hear this even at places we frequent at least once a week, just because schedules vary. It is invariably followed by a conversation in which we catch each other up on what we've been up to since we last spoke. If they recognize your face and know your name you are a regular no matter how long it has been since you last stopped in.
  13. The Rye Street Tavern's Uncle Vals Garden is a strong offering (Uncle Val’s Botanical Gin, cucumber, lavender, lemon, sage, Q Tonic).
  14. In this regard, you may want to peruse the Oldest Restaurants in the Washington, DC Area thread.

    Eataly

We made a lunch stop at Eataly Los Angeles on Santa Monica Blvd. in the Westfield Century City mall. It compares favorably to the other Eataly locations I have been to (New York and Chicago) if you like that sort of thing - which I do.

    website

I recently had a chance to visit Bottega Louie, a bright, cavernous space in The Brockman Building on South Grand that is both a gourmet market and restaurant. The large open floor and high ceilings plan gives the place a certain vibrancy, with an accompanying noise level that you might expect from such a large room. I took a seat at the 10 stool bar in the front closer to the market and quite enjoyed the Cioppino, which also cost $30. It was a full bowl of succulent seafood, that contained perhaps the most plump mussels I have ever been served. Truly satisfying.

    71Above

We met friends at 71Above for drinks and some appetizers. We had to leave for a show so we did not stay for dinner (although our friends did). We sat at the bar and one among us took charge and ordered the appetizers and while they were uniformly good, I spent way to much time talking rather than focusing on the food so I cannot offer much more in the way of a commentary. But what I can report is.... Man, what a view!
