  1. Right now when I stroll by during the week I always see at least a handful of folks working on laptops at tables that have not been roped off. This leads me to suspect that some are using the space as a co-working / remote working venue until a new tenant emerges. The Galleria does offer free Wi-Fi and plenty of parking.

  3. A guide to picking the right apple for the right recipe, by Becky Krystal October 8, 2018, on washingtonpost.com.
  4. This joint gives all indications of being closed. Have not been close enough to see if there is a sign on the door, but numerous drive-bys reveal no activity.
  5. Again, not me, but some birds in Minnesota have been getting into some fermented berries. Drunk birds are causing havoc in a Minnesota town. Police say they’ll sober up soon. By Antonia Noori Farzan, October 4, 2018, on washingtonpost.com.
  6. James Beard Foundation changes policies in effort to diversify its coveted awards, by Tim Carman, October 2, 2018, on washingtonpost.com.
  7. I have been informed that Asiatique has no ABC license yet, at least as of today, from a reliable source who was actually there. Not a good sign.
  8. Just picked up some tickets for Girl From North Country at the Public Theater in New York. If you are at all interested, be aware that inventory is limited (still some tickets available in December). With Dylan songbook, ‘Girl From North Country’ is a triumph, by Peter Marks, October 1, 2018.
  9. Yes, we were there. Another thought provoking evening. The performances were varied and heartfelt. I cannot do them justice in description. I can tell you that we enjoyed the "Ghost Flower" talk by Rowan Jacobsen. The programs contained little plastic envelopes with scented cards. Due to some scientific prestidigitation, we were able to smell the scent of a flower extinct for maybe a hundred years. Perhaps in the future we may find this is the only way to interact with things we today consider commonplace. Imagine that. Really. Think about it.
  10. Billymark's West - 1956. Open 7 days a week - 8am to 4am. I think New York City allows bars to open at 7am. No doubt Billymark's West decision to open at 8am is a nod to moderation.

  12. Sign on door says Old Dominion Pizza Co. coming soon. Maybe third time is a charm with pizza at this location. --- Old Dominion Pizza Company (saxdrop)

  15. I have become partial to their goat cheese stuffed lamb meatballs with tomato sauce. The duck spring rolls with peach duck sauce and curry mustard are also tasty and quite a bargain when on the happy hour menu. Sometimes I make a meal around just those two items. A small greek salad with salmon on top I have also found satisfying. This also a reliable venue for friends and family from out of town. There is just enough variety on the menu to satisfy the young folks as well as us geezers folks no longer so young. I would agree it is not necessarily a destination restaurant, but if you live, or find yourself, in Arlington it is definitely worth toddling on over every now and then. They also offer gluten-free pizzas.
  16. Free Sushi Day at P.F. Chang's, today September 20, 2018. One free Spicy Tuna or California Roll. Dine-in only, but no purchase necessary.

According to Wikipedia, George Soros graduated from the London School of Economics. He probably has more money than Mick.
  19. Former owner Blake Bethem is taking part in a charity bike ride. Fredericksburg chef to take part in 300-mile bike ride to end hunger, by Cathy Jett, The Free Lance Star, September 17, 2018, on fredericksburg.com. The donation deadline is Friday, September 21, 2018, if you are so inclined.
  20. A few weeks ago the bartender at Trummer's on Main overheard our discussion about passing through Fredericksburg and needing a place for lunch. He recommended FoodE. It is located in the National Bank Building at 900 Princess Anne Street, complete with vault and all. We enjoyed a fine lunch at the bar. I have not had an egg salad sandwich in about twenty years, but I really enjoyed their take on it on sun-dried tomato bread. We also enjoyed the chicken hummus plate, which was a little busy in presentation but tasted A-OK. There is a lot going on in the menus, so it probably deserves a return trip the next time we are making our way down south.
