  1. I doubt this will have much of an impact. The chicken will still be outstanding. I don't think agents are going to be checking the clientele for documentation. As to cash nature of the business, I am not sure that these business practices will keep customers away, either.
  2. When in Maine, don't forget to pick up some Allen's. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6010800808.html
  3. I'll second the gripe regarding the ABC stores. Thank God for the Chain Bridge and my easy access to McArthur Liquors. Though pricier than some DC stores, it is still a vast savings off of the ABC prices.
  4. They do sell just sauce in the refrigerator cases, although I have noticed that it is not always stocked. http://italianstore.com/extras.html I have never bought just the sauce so I cannot confirm if it is the same as in their ready-made meals, but it would stand to reason. I agree that the sauce in the meals is quite good.
  5. getting some play today in Todd Kliman's chat: http://www.washingtonian.com/chats/kliman/index.html not all agree, apparently, that you are entitled to dislike the wings.......
  6. Oddly, the prosecco seems to be among the least expensive sparkling wines offered by Hook: http://www.hookdc.com/wine-list.php If they were really trying to squeeze the last dollar out of customers through an impulse order, they probably would have chosen a somewhat pricier alternative. Perhaps they are meaning to showcase what a "bargain" the prosecco is?
  7. What is the "prosecco pitch?" Do they merely suggest you might enjoy a bottle of sparkling wine?
  8. We are thinking of doing that next week. How long did your meal take? Theater tickets are at 8pm, so I am trying to time a meal for 4 to end around 7:45pm.
  9. Does anybody know what is on the $9 lunch menu for May? The website is still listing the April menu.
  10. We signed up with Great Country Farms. http://www.greatcountryfarms.com/ The big driver for us is that they will deliver to our door in Arlington. This is our first year so we are cautiously hopeful that our emphasis on convenience will prove wise.
  11. Is this the fellow? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5123001452.html
  12. How easy is it to clean? Although I have long been tempted, I have resisted getting an integrated bean grinder / coffee machine because I have heard reports that the grinder mechanism gets damp from the brewing and gets to be a little messy in the clean up. Is this true? For now, I just use a separate bean grinder. Anything that can save me an extra 10 seconds in the morning would be well worth it. Thanks.
  13. It received generally positive reviews from 2 separate Washington Post writers: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?n...ies=Restaurants I am remiss in not getting there myself, as it is only a couple of short miles from my house.
  14. I do not think there were any questions answered today. The website says: "Sorry folks, Todd will be unable to host a chat today due to unforeseen travel circumstances but will return next Tuesday to answer your questions. Until then check out the Best Bites blog for the latest in restaurant news."
  15. I personally ease my ethical torment on this issue by studiously avoiding reading my cash register receipt. I accept that I will occassionally be overcharged on the assumption that other times I will be undercharged. It more or less evens out and significantly reduces the hassle factor. On the other hand, I do read the receipt when I am buying a flat screen TV..........
  16. It looks like the Washington Post is running the same story a month later, presumably for those who don't read the City Paper: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...7031201341.html It is no surprise that the City Paper story was better researched and written, imho.
  17. Before we head over to the Studio Theater, we like to sit at the bar and order the Buffalo Shrimp w/ Blue Cheese Sauce and the Baby Back Ribs w/ Honey-Hoisin Glaze. Don't forget to sop up the sauce with the fresh bread. Quick, light, and satisfying. The Buffalo shrimp are like buffalo wings but with a creamier sauce, still quite spicy, with crumbled blue cheese dropped in.
  18. Rocky Mountain Oysters. Never had them. No inclination to try them. Could not imagine eating them. http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/RockyMtnOyster.htm
  19. For those who, like myself, often feel inadequate when discussing wine with other more knowledgable souls (read: almost everyone), I offer the following handy-dandy wine appreciation tips delivered by America's finest news source (self-proclaimed, natch): http://www.theonion.com/content/node/38264

    Got Milk?

no doubt this development will lead to a run on swiss cheese products............... http://blog.washingtonpost.com/offbeat/200...s_dairy_co.html
  21. The implications of the service issues at Bebo may be more dire than we are prepared to admit: http://ezinearticles.com/?One-Bad-Waiter-C...;&id=121678
