  1. I went to the 9pm seating and thanks to some input from Al Dente, who we saw on the way in, had an enjoyable meal. The charcuterie plate was a good start, but ours came with marinated olives. I would have loved to try the marinated peaches. My grilled asparagus was well prepared and was topped with finely chopped hard boiled egg and aged balsamic. When we tasted the steak two of us commented on how it had a wonderful woodsy/smokey flavor. We inquried and were told that the grill was fueled with oak. And that poached garlic was delicious! We enjoyed the cheese plate and one of the crowd favorites was an aged Fontina. Not much else to add from what Al said, and I am looking forward to seeing the restaurant in full swing.
  2. Don't let that comment stop you. I would love to see different desserts with a ventworm theme!
  3. Wish I could join you, but I have other plans tonight. Enjoy some of those sweetbreads and make sure to sample a dessert or two as they are very much worth it.
  4. You got that right. Since there is no $20 Tuesday event planned for next week, should we plan on invading one night after work?
  5. I am surprised to see all the 'too salty' comments on the hot dog. The last 2 that I have had were great and I am not a salt fiend. Too bad as they are pretty darn good when they are on.
  6. The date for the pasta making/tomato tasting session will be on Saturday June 4th. Time and other details will follow as we get closer to the event. Here is the current list based upon people that told me that the 4th would work for them. For all you others please let me know. mktye bilrus (?) bkeith syzygy8 + 1 mnebergal erin laniloa
  7. Ok, so where and when is the gethering next week?
  8. I bought some 2 weeks ago at the DuPont market. I think it was the vendor next to the guy selling milk. They have all sorts of other bedding plant and herbs as well.
  9. I am surprised that it did not work out as there seemed to be quite a few people that were planning on attending. Oh well, so what day next week? Tues, Wed, ...?
  10. Sooooooooo how was the S(h)abang? Should we try for the peruvian place that shogun suggested for next week? Say Tuesday?
  11. On Monday nights only the cafe menu is available. On other nights you can order from the regular menu as well. While I have not had a chance to stop in for Saturday lunch yet, I think the panini are only offered then.
  12. We used to do the sushi buffet for lunch at Matsutake and it was passable.
  13. From what I have heard the movie was not that good. Has anyone seen it that can provide some info?
  14. Ok everyone I have 15 people that have expressed interest, which is probably the limit that we can somewhat comfortably fit in my kitchen. Only one person has chimed in with a date preference. To refresh everyone's memory the dates to select from are Saturday June 4th and Saturday June 11th. Time is TBD. Please email or PM if you have a preference.
  15. The sign said last week for ramps at the DuPont Farmer's market. Hope all of you that wanted some got 'em. I got some pea shoots today so I can see what all the fuss is about.
  16. After visiting 21P and the little duck mishap I decided to grab dinner in the lounge at Corduroy. I had Chef Power's version of softshell crab and it was delicious. Light and crispy on the outside that complimented the soft and sweet crab meat. The body was wrapped in the "shredded phyllo" from the mozzerella porcupine and was served on a bed of greens with verjus. I had the striploin for dinner, which enough has been said about, but can say that I did not taste any pork flavor. I could have eaten a plate more of the herbed turnip gratin that was served on the side. I had the pineapple tart for dessert as was recommended and did not leave unhappy. A nicely carmelized pineapple upside down cake with a portion of pistachio ice cream with a pineapple chip on top.
  17. If this bkeith of BCakes then dessert will be a great idea.
  18. I have an electric one, why? Did you want to have an ice cream making session at the picnic or do you want somebody to bring some homemade ice cream?
  19. I think it would be wise for us to wait a bit to put it on our happy hour to do list...
  20. Another episode in the glorious life of being a chef.
  21. I think with the large menu you have to know what to order. Not that this is an acceptable solution. I for one have had some lame dishes, and when I order tend to stick with the ones that have been good in the past, plus one or two new items to try. The ones that you mentioned as being lows were either ones that I have not enjoyed or have had been mentioned by friends as being so so. The tacos seem to be pretty consistent and when I have tried the various specials they have been good.
