  1. everyone probably know but i just found out that tequilla is a specific kind of mezcal. Tequilla is mezcal made from blue aguve. Hope i got that right?
  2. Anyone find good strawberrys? It is season and I'm searching for great testing small sweet strawberrys. Anyone seen them? I'm not looking for the big grocery stuff. Soup
  3. I'm sorry but I have to beg out of this one. work just came up and I will have to stay late. I'm sorry as I really wanted to try this place. Soup
  4. I noticed a new place had opened up in annandale. It is in the Giant parking lot, in the same place as where the old korean BBQ place was (connected to To Sok Jip). Has anyone been? what's the name? Soup
  5. Idea...Sampling of food of places he's served at? Might be hard. For 150 people, I like famous daves BBQ. Really reasonable. I also like italian. Did trays from maggianos and they weren't bad (2 weeks ago and it was cheap). I also catered from Curry Mantra. It was really good and very cheap.
  6. It is really easy to find fault with this place - chain, pretty pedestrian food, etc. However, my kids love this place. Mac and cheese and spagetti w/ meat balls. Both dishes I can make easily and better but we still go there once a month. It is really cheap and easy. It has taken over from ja jang mein place as our go to pasta place. I don't really think it is that great but the kids like it. I've had the asian stuff and all i can say is go with non asian dishes. But like chipotle, jersey mikes and other good chains, it is good for what it is. Soup
  7. Sorry to hear about your wife's reaction. The smell of mackeral, which is really good @ TSJ, can be very strong. I've smelled of fish 4 or 5 hours later after having lunch at this place. Not a place I go to if I have to go back the work. The food is solid but it is very korean. This is not a place that cater's to western pallets. If you go there around noon on Sunday the place is completely packed with korean after church crowd. Last time I was there, they asked how many. I said one and they said, we're sorry but we just cannot seat you today. As everyone said, this is small place. It is also is not a woo lee oak. But I really like this place. Soup
  8. from dullas to DC is quite a large area... However, if you are driving to/from the airport pull off at tyson's corner and hit shamshimery. Amazing persian food and it is really reasonable. Never had a bad meal here. Also (this is not hyperbole) the best rice in town. I just wish their bread was more naan like.
  9. Groupon has $59 tickets for the event. I'm not sure but I think the origional ticket price is $89. Pretty good discount. I've not been to this event. Are Oysters and beer all that is avaible or is there anything else? BTW, how easy do they make it so you get a couple of dozen from each station (e.g., I've been to todai and they give you 3 oysters at a time so you end up having to make a lot of trips).
  10. I can find pretty decent fish but I'm looking to get some really good uni and salmon roe for making sushi at home?
  11. making a korean winter dish call beegee. Ground soy bean stew. I used this recipe. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIzIyN3Jsh0 Soup
  12. Not a fan of football, especially the SB as all you seem to see if commercials and pregame. Anyway, in the spirit of being social, I am going to a party. Did not want to make anything to I just ran to DC Bahn Mi and got a mess of Bahn Mi. They even cut it up small so I could have little bite size bahn mi. So I am prbing a huge plate of Bahn Mi's. I hope they like them. It is a pretty suburban crowd. Soup
  13. @ H mart in Annandale I found fresh sardines. They were pretty fresh. About $5 per pound. Grilled with EVOO, S&P and they were amazing.
  14. napa cabbage/miso soup. fresh made deer sausage. The wife's sausage was really good. Star of the evening.
  15. I'm wondering if there is a local factory (I don't even know what to call it) or a place that makes their own tofu? I'm sick the the package stuff. The fresh stuff is very different and am seeking a source for it. Would appreciate any insight. (I have made tofu at home and don't want to do that again: BTW it didn't turn out that great for all the effort). Soup
  16. Wife and I have been running around like crazy. Just absolutely no way to get our head above water. We decided that going to happy hour and having a few drinking would be perhaps get us into the holiday mood. I would appreciate suggestions please. We are in NOVA don't want to drive to MD. Would prefer to stay around NOVA. Lot of people, decent food and great drinks. Soup
  17. Been doing a lot of korean out near chantilly and annnandale. Which korean place has the most variety and/or best quality of banchan. Interested in your opinion. Soup
  18. The guys said all the right things (i.e., it came from farm X in va) but who knows. I just think its pretty neat to see a the butchering process. Most of the meat I buy comes cryovaced or wrapped in plastic. I think it one of the reasons I like to go to the lebenese butcher (aside from great meat). Hyuk
  19. Went to Super H today (one in Annandale). Hadn't been to that local in a couple of months but there were few interesting things... 1. On site butcher.... There was a guy basically at a make shift station (table in the meat section) butchering a whole hog. It said it was killed yesterday and that it was about as fresh as I could find. It looked good. Got a sholder and the hocks. Let you know how there are. 2. Great lunch deal... Never seen this there. Boxed lunch for $5. Mine came with purple rice, kimchi, bean sprout, grilled pork (it was more than I could eat) and soup. What a find. I will go back just for that. 3. They had a variety of watermelon (lady called it korean) but I actually had not seen it since I was very young and in korea. Round, very deep green with seeds. I hope it is as good as I remember. $3. Soup
  20. Dr. Brown is special, not because it it the best of certain thing but it like other special foods to me, has the ability to bring back memories. BTW, the best Dr. Brown is cream soda not blk cherry.
